Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds

Popeye is a 4 yr old Love Bird and is a clown, very acrobatic in his cage, loves to come out and fly and talk. Will not go on your finger but will usually go back into his cage when you tell him, or otherwise a butterfly net easily catches him. We are moving out of state and cannot get anyone that will rent to us with birds.

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-13-00152African Grey (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Max's Story... Max is believed to be about 20years old according to our vets. This handsome guy came to us as an owner surrender from an elderly lady who could no longer care for him. He has spent the last 9 months with us with one of our experienced bird fosters for rehabilitation. He had been kept in his change with limited interaction prior to being with us and possibly came from a breeder where his beak was damaged from being fed with a dropper. A few months ago he also had a small tumor in his mouth removed but otherwise is healthy. He is used to being around other African Greys and have been around a few smaller parrots. Max does enjoy ... (Read More)being out around people and is easy to handle, however it is recommended that he is in a home with older children. The picture we have of him with one of our former Therapy-Rehabilitation Dogs shows how easy going he is....sang to the dog and even let him sneak in a couple kosses! If you have dogs, he would prefer calm or gentle personalities if he must be around them. (Dog pictured was trained to enteract and asses a variety of animals) His adoption fee is $400 and comes with his full sized cage and toys. Remember, these type of birds are a long term commitment. They also need quite a bit of care and attention. Due to his past and age, we are asking for experienced adopters only. Rescue Me ID: 16-08-23-00450Cockatiel and Parakeet (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive

Hi! MY name is 'Luke'. I am a Senior Cockatiel that is full of life, healthy and I love to sing. I am very bonded to my friend, 'Shim' my companion, who is a very cute yellow parakeet. We are a bonded pair, live together in side by side cages, love to look outside through the window (which is where our cages sit), we must be adopted together. Our Mommy is sick and needs to find another loving home for us. Our new family must enjoy the birdie sounds of happiness I make such as my calls and whisles throughout the day. Sometimes I imitate wild birds and sing a cockatiel 'mating call'. We come with our cages, food and toys. We don't leave ... (Read More)our cages but love to have company who will talk to us and give us attention through the cage as we are not hand-tamed. By the way, I love to admire myself in the mirror and so does Shim. We are happy birdies and need to find a new family who will take good care of us and keep loving us. Our new ideal family is one who would enjoy the sounds of birdies but not require hand contact with us. We live in Tucson Arizona but can travel to a new home if it's not too far. Please call my Mommie so we can exchange information. Experienced bird owners only. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-09-00773Lory (male)

Pet Bird

Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant

These two have been together for their whole life. They were purchased for breeding and were told that they were male and female..They were retested when no eggs were produced and were found to be males. They were then surrendered to our sanctuary. They can be adopted out separately but would like to see them stay together. They have had very little human contact and have a special diet. May want to look up on the internet for more information. They are beautiful and fun to watch as they love toys and play hard. They would do great in an outside avairy.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in Arizona
Birds can make good pets in Arizona if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.

lnteresting Bird Trivia Low-Cost Arizona Spay & Neuter Clinics
Parrots mimic humans but do not mimic any other kind of animal in the wild. Most captive birds are unable to find a permanent home and experience some kind of abuse or neglect in their lifetimes. The use of nonstick cookware can be extremely toxic to parrots living in the home.
