Pet Bird

A resident of Santa Rosa Valley decided to 'free' 20 peacocks into a residential area. Many of them have already been killed by dogs in the area. They are scattered in a few backyards. The owner was irresponsible and says that the birds are free to roam. They are 'sitting ducks' without the skills to survive the coyotes or domesticated animals in the area.

Animal ID: r2d2cockatiel (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Birds
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Approx 3 years old, White cockatiel Named R2. Once used to you (give it a few minutes he's very friendly) you can scratch his head and pet his back and he snuggles with you, happiest on your shoulder, approaches you immediately when you come to the cage. Makes numerous of the R2D2 noises with astounding accuracy. he also says 'so cute, who's a good boy, i love you, Hi and mom' in cockatiel tones. All repeating from my kids and I and learned the r2d2 noises from cell phone apps. He is BONDED to a 5 year old female grey cockatiel, they share a large cage and snuggle and she gets upset when he's not in the cage (she doesn't like to come out ... (Read More)much, and enjoys the floor when she does if not your shoulder, under the table seems to be her favorite.). They are a BONDED pair for the past 3 years and need to be adopted together. She (Bingley) is very quiet and takes a LONG while to get used to you, once she does she very much enjoys being on your shoulder but does NOT like her back pet. but R2 is a SCREAMER. He CRAVES and NEEDS LOTS of attention and if you don't have patience for him screaming out to you regularly then they are not the birds for you. We are moving to the east coast an cannot take them with us. These are our BABIES and they need a great home with lots of attention and love. and put in a room where you are most of the time, held daily and lots of attention. Lots of shoulder time and talking to them. My son takes R2 in the shower with him, my autistic afraid of animals daughter enjoys both the birds, and Bingley enjoys a shallow tub of water placed in her cage to bath in about once a week. Despite giving them nesting box. they have not bred, we were not trying but would have accepted the babies had they chosen to do so. As bonded as they are, Bingley has made advances to R2, he just has yet to accept them. They are NOT for breeding! just saying that they might. Bingley gets extremely stressed out in a cage with other birds and only like R2. Loves him actually. We love them both dearly and are devastated at having to rehome them, so extreme bird lovers with lots of patience for noise only apply! If you cover the cage at night they are quiet thru the entire night until later morning. They need to stay together! Bingley was booted out of the nest as a baby and raised by people and never around other birds and didn't act much like a bird until we got R2, and R2 LOVES Bingley and watches out for her and they kiss and snuggle. Sadly if we do not find a home for them they will be taken the santa cruz shelter so to avoid being put down and all those awful evil bird flippers! I have crummy reception in the mountains so email is the BEST way to discuss this. Thank you for your time, i shall post pictures as soon as possible or thru your email request, thank you! Both are very healthy and happy, eat and drink well and have a very LARGE cage 4 feet by about 2 foot tall thing, as well as a small travel cage. (Less)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive

Clyde is a well-mannered little silky rooster that we rescued from a teaching farm where my wife works. Clyde was getting beat up by the other chickens on account of his diminutive size. He has been in our backyard for the past 4 months and our 9-month old baby is very attached to him. However, out of consideration for our neighbors (he does crow!), we are now looking for a new home for Clyde.

Pet Bird

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Chanel is a Lilac Crown Amazon parrot. He loves to whistle, sing and says 'Que paso, cotorro' which I've been told means 'what's up, birdy'. He's a very funny parrot with a lot of personality. He loves to mock you when you laugh. Chanel doesn't like to be held but can probably learn. He would do better in a home with other birds or pets that have been around parrots so that he can sometimes be let out of his cage and just be a parrot. Would not do well in a home with young kids. LOCATION: Hollywood, CA. Contact me for an application. A homecheck is required to determine approval of application. Contract and non-refundable adoption ... Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant

For the past year Frank and I have had the pleasure of fostering Cookie. Cookie is a male umbrella cockatoo. Cookie's history with Parrots First began 11 years ago when he was just 18 months old. His caregiver was pregnant and felt she would no longer have time for the feathered baby she had brought in to her life. Cookie was placed with a family and lived with them for 10 years. When the couple lost their jobs and then their home cookie came back to Parrots First. Watching Cookie come back to us sad and confused was heartbreaking. Over the past year Cookie has become a proud and happy male parrot once again. Cookie is not for everyone!!! ... (Read More)He is not a screamer and believe me we know when one when we have one, but when he does scream it is LOUD. Mostly Cookie jabbers and says what seems to be very appropriate things. He is without a doubt one of the smartest birds we have ever worked with. Cookie does need a home. If you are confident with large birds and IF YOU LIVE IN THE LOS ANGELES area think about giving Cookie the home he deserves. He is adorable....also messy and chews an incredible amount of wood a day. (Less)

My name is Alex and this is my story. I lived with a woman for many years and loved it. She passed away and I went to a friend who found me annoying. From there I ended up at Parrots First. Honestly at times I can be annoying but I can also be funny and loving. I have learned to step up and am pretty good at it. O I scream sometimes but mostly when no one is paying attention to me. One thing that you should know is that I HATE other birds. I WILL attack to kill. Soooo I will need to be an only bird. I really do think I could be a great companion if given a chance so if you are in the Los Angeles area I could be your new best friend. So ... (Read More)that is my story and I'm stickin too it!! PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in California
Birds can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.

Parrots mimic humans but do not mimic any other kind of animal in the wild. Most captive birds are unable to find a permanent home and experience some kind of abuse or neglect in their lifetimes.
