Animal ID: AylaAlexandrine Parakeet

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Ayla and I am a gorgeous Alexandrine Parakeet. Some people say I can't be a parakeet because they think of the little budgies when they hear the word parakeet and I am definitely not a budgie, but my species is in the parakeet family. I am about 5 years old and the veterinarian says that I am in great health. I love people and will sit on your shoulder all day long, I will make sure to give you a thorough ear, eyebrow, and face preening. I don't mind being around other animals, but I am definitely human focused. I also love to eat! I enjoy a diet with a healthy mix of pellets, fresh veggies, some fruit, and healthy ... (Read More)nuts. I LOVE chop and my favorite food is sweet potatoes. I also love to play with my shredding toys the best and I love the basket of toys my Foster Mom keeps on the bottom of my cage, I like to go down there to root around and see what I can find. I would love it if you would come and meet me so that I can find a home of my own. Please come soon! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: LuluQuaker Parakeet

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi, my name is Lulu and I am a female Quaker parrot. I think I am about 10 years old because my owner found me in her tree about 8 years ago and my vet said I looked to be a couple of years old at that time. I am very beautiful and fully feathered. My new foster Mom said I am a good girl and am not very cage aggressive the way most Quaker parrots can be. Although I won't bite you, I do have a habit of holding onto my cage with my beak if you try to take me off it. I think it's funny. In fact, you can handle me just about any way you want to without getting bit. I very much enjoy head scratches and belly rubs. I have a little problem with one ... (Read More)foot which is not very noticeable, so I don't step up very well. . The FPR veterinarian said I either have a neurological issue or an old injury, but either way it is nothing that can be fixed, but that is OK, I am used to it and I get around my cage very well. I will sit with you and cuddle or stay on top of my cage, but I definitely like being out of my cage and in the middle of the action. My foster Mom is introducing me to chop and fruits and veggies. I already like my pellets, but I am not really crazy about the "good diet" yet. I used to love traveling in the motor home with my previous family and my fur brother, but my Mom became ill and the doctor said it would be better for her health if she found a new home for me. Would you like to meet me and see for yourself how cuddly I can be? If you would like to say "welcome into rescue" to Lulu the Quaker Parrot, you can purchase her a welcome gift on her amazon wish list at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1KY7ZFK4DTOPL/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_o? Animal ID: Peanut & PunkinEclectus Parrots (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Punkin and my best friend is Peanut. We are a bonded pair of Eclectus parrots and we must be adopted together. I was born on October 19, 2008 and Peanut was born on July 31, 2005. Yes, I date an older man, don't judge! We are both friendly birds who give kisses and will step up for anyone. We are also very quiet and we are just fine with other pets in the home and we even like kids. We both like to take showers and we love shredding toys. We LOVE LOVE LOVE chop and we also like almonds, pecans, and walnuts as treats. Peanut will do anything for a treat - he is such a suck up (eye roll). He will follow you around ... (Read More)until he gets the treat, he can also be a bit mischievous and has been caught eating homework and trying to get into things he should not - so you have to watch him. I, of course am the perfect lady though, I mind my p's and q's! Peanut does like to talk and he can say Peanut, Birdie, Pretty Bird, Are you a good boy, Hmmmmmmm, Apple, Whats the matter, Good Morning, Bird over there, Whatcha doing, Hi there, Hello there, Step Up, Come here, and the list goes on and on, he just loves to be the center of attention! As you can see we have both chosen to be partial nudists. While we just recently came into rescue, we have not yet stopped plucking, but our foster Mom is working on that with us. Our foster Mom says we are wonderful birds though and we would really love for you to come and meet us very soon! If you would like to welcome this gorgeous pair into rescue, you can send them a gift from their amazon wish list at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3TABA3LRLVZ2F/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_o? Animal ID: BluNanday Conure

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Blu and I am a Nanday Conure. My foster Mom says that I am one of the coolest conures she has ever met - well, I do have to admit that she is right! I came from my previous home never leaving my cage for almost three years because there were kitties there that my Mom thought may want to eat me, so she sent me to Florida Parrot Rescue to find a home where I can spread my wings! I LOVE being out of the cage and my foster Mom says I am VERY sweet. I am a typical conure, I can be loud when I want your attention or if you do something I do not like, and sometimes I do display some cage aggression. However, my foster Mom is ... (Read More)working with me on that and she says I am already getting much better. I like to sit on your shoulder and give you kisses and I love to groom you. I love getting kisses in return (on the top of the beak, of course, so you don't give me any germs or bad bacteria!). I also love to whistle and can make all kinds of sounds. My foster Mom is in the process of converting me to a healthier diet without seeds, but with healthy pellets, fresh vegetables, some fruits, and healthy nuts. She says that I am doing very well with the conversion. My favorites so far are blueberries, carrots, and any greens. The vet says I am very healthy and one of the nicest birds he has ever met, too! So please come meet me soon, I would love to have a home of my own with a loving family who will give me tons of attention and love! I can't wait to met you! Interested in adoption?     Hello! My name is Fuzzy and I arrived at Florida Parrot Rescue by plane all the way from North Carolina. I am 20 years old and I am a Catalina Macaw. I was once diagnosed with Aspergillosis, but thanks to my caring family and a wonderful veterinarian, I overcame that nasty sickness. I am currently on a special diet of Harrison's lifetime pellets with lots of fresh veggies and some fresh fruits. As you can see, I have over-groomed my feathers but they are starting to fill in now. My foster dad is teaching me that human companionship can be fun and entertaining. I can also talk! I speak lots of words very clearly but I am shy about it. ... Animal ID: SkippyYellow Nape Amazon

Pet Bird    Age: Senior

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi everyone, I am Skippy. I am an older Yellow Naped Amazon parrot - no one knows for sure how old I am but my new Veterinarian says I could be as much as 45 years old. She also thinks I am a girl even though I am listed as a boy. I really don't care, because I am awesome either way! I have only been in my foster home for a short period of time and am getting used to the environment. I was not on a very good diet for most of my life, so my foster Mom is introducing me to the good stuff like healthy pellets and chop. My poor diet has caused some health issues that should clear up with my new diet. I have an extensive vocabulary; however, I ... (Read More)have been holding back from my foster family and not saying a lot unless I am the only one in the room, then I talk up a storm! I also talk my own language a lot when I am conversing with the pretty bird in the mirror. I like that bird very much and would sit on top of my cage all day and have conversations with her. I like my toys and now that I have a larger cage (thanks to YOUR donations!!) I can get more! I will step up for someone that I trust, but right now I am being a little shy. Did I mention that I am a good passenger in a car and will even ask if we are going to work? Would you give me a forever home? My foster mom gave me this name because I didn't have a name prior to coming here. I also never came out of my cage. Don't worry though; life isn't too shabby nowadays. I try to talk and am learning that being vocal isn't a bad thing but a way of expressing myself. I eat healthy nuts and am in the final stages of a full conversion from seed to pelleted diet. I am still a little uneasy with interacting with people but as you can see by my photos my foster mom is working on it because the world is a big and ... (Read More)scary place outside of my cage! I am also learning how to play with toys because I love shredding newspaper on the bottom of my cage! My foster mom bought me a shred ball and I love it! I am OK with dogs being around - I am curious of them. I seem to like my foster mom over my foster dad but only by a little. I am working on being handled by humans as they haven't really interacted with me that much in my life, but I get lots of almonds and fruit for doing it so I am learning to gently take it from hands while in my cage because my cage is my safe place. I am pretty quiet for a macaw but come near my house and I will scream to let my family know! No need for an industrial alarm here! I am not the bird for someone who doesn't have big parrot experience as I have not been interacted with a lot until recently. With patience and love my foster mom already sees the great potential I have bottled up inside...I'm just scared. Will you take me in as one of your own? Interested in adoption?     Hello! My name is Echo and I am a 7 year old Blue 7 Gold Macaw. I came from a very loving family who could no longer keep me for personal reasons. I LOVE attention and will step up for you once I get to know you. I also like to hang out on top of my cage for some playtime. I also like to talk and my foster Dad says I talk really clearly. I can say Hello, Hello Echo, Echooooo!, step up, and goodnight. I love to eat and am on a healthy diet of quality pellets and fresh vegetables and some fruit and healthy nuts (remember, no peanuts for parrots!). I also enjoy hanging out on the porch (enclosed and supervised, of course!) or sitting and ... (Read More)watching TV with the humans on the couch. I am a vocal bird - I am a macaw after all, but I am not what is considered a screamer. But, I will let you know if I'm excited or irritated. I love my chew toys and sometimes I beak your hand, that's just me being me! My foster family says I will make a great companion for someone with time and patience as well as a good understanding of the difference between a bite and me playing with my beak. Please come meet me soon - I can't wait to be introduced to you! Interested in adoption? Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Hello, my name is Pepper and I am a 12 year old female African Senegal Parrot. I came into foster care because my mom had to have surgery and could not care for me anymore. I love to have my head scritched but I am picky about who I allow to scratch it - I have to give you the sign first. I love being in the center of the action but can also sit on the sidelines and watch. I am very quiet and only give an alert call when I sense danger outside or someone turns the shower on. I do not talk, although I used to until my mom brought home more birds and did not give me all her attention. My foster family has two small dogs and I have learned to ... (Read More)be comfortable around them, although the best family would be one with no other pets. I really like being spoiled and I love most fruit and my pellets, and of course my millet and almonds. I eat really well although I do not necessarily like my vegetables, so maybe I am like a spoiled child, but my foster dad says he is going to work on that with me. Please consider letting me into your flock forever, I promise you won't be sorry! Interested in adoption?     Hello! My name is Sonya and my best friend is Lucian. We are a bonded pair of very young lovebirds (about 6-8 months old) who must be adopted together. We have been converted to a healthy diet which includes pellets, lots of veggies, some fruits, and healthy nuts - and we LOVE chop! We love to explore things and we also love to chew on our toys. We are still a little afraid of fingers, but are slowly progressing. Our foster mom is working with us to try to get us to perch on her finger, it is just going to take some time. Animal ID: RockoGoffin's Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Good day mate! My names Rocko and I am currently looking for my forever home. I am a 21 year old Goffin's cockatoo also known as a Velcro bird. I love my foster mommy but willingly go to women AND men so it is hard to tell who I like best. I love a good head scratch and won't be overly picky about who gets the chance to make me happy. Also, don't let my small stature fool you - I am a gallon of personality jammed into a pint sized body and will entertain you for hours with my antics. I will need someone that has plenty of time to love on me and to play and let me out during the day. I do have a nervous habit of plucking or over grooming ... (Read More)myself but, it has improved since coming in to foster care. I am currently on a diet of pellets, safflower gold (not sunflower) and Tropimix parrot. I also eat chop, fresh fruits and vegetables'|.my foster mom says I haven't met a food I don't like! I'm a fun loving little guy that just needs the right family and would love becoming part of yours! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: AbigailUmbrella Cockatoo (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Abigail - or Abby for short - and I am a gorgeous 8 year old Umbrella cockatoo. My foster Mom says I am something called an escape artist and of course I do also like to chew on things - I am a cockatoo, after all!!! I LOVE to chew on household stuff if you are not careful, so you have to make sure to keep an eye on me at all times and to make sure you provide me with LOTS and LOTS of chewing/wooden toys. I am also really outgoing - a social butterfly if you will! I don't mind other animals being around and even though Florida Parrot Rescue was told I only prefer women, I have warmed up to men now - so really it just ... (Read More)depends on who you are - you will have to meet me to find out if we get along ;) I should not be in a home with young children though. If I do choose you as a friend, then I like to love on you all the time - I love cuddling and I love swinging from your hand, but watch out about over-bonding with me - if I get too bonded to one person I might not be nice to other people in the home, so please make sure you know how to handle positive reinforcement with cockatoos so this does not happen if I come to live with you. Of course I am also very vocal (again, I am a cockatoo!), so this is another reason you should know all about how to use positive reinforcement. I sometimes mumble as well and I like to say 'I love you, Abigail', 'hi' and some other things my foster family has not quite figured out yet. My foster Mom is also trying to get me to try new foods, I sort of like those pellets, but I will keep working on that part, she say's I am picky - whatever, Mom! Anyway - if you think you might like me, please fill out an application on the Florida Parrot Rescue website, and come meet me very soon! Interested in adoption?     My name is Harold and I am an 8 year old Severe Macaw. I am a good bird who strongly prefers men. I would do best with a single male or at least a male as my primary caregiver. I am a great talker and my foster parents are still finding out new things I say every day. I eat a variety of food well but my foster Dad is working on converting me to a healthy diet of pellets, vegetables and fruits and by the way, I LOVE nuts as treats - only healthy nuts though like pistachios and almonds - no peanuts! I also really love to enjoy meal time with my human. Since I am a macaw, I can be very loud when I want to be but for the most part I am quiet ... (Read More)(for a bird anyway)! Animal ID: PeachesMoluccan Cockatoo

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Hello! My name is Peaches and my foster Mom says I am the sweetest bird she has ever met! I am a 16 year old Moluccan Cockatoo and I came into foster care because my parronts were very sick and no longer able to care for me. I do miss them, but am also looking forward to finding a new family who can give me all of the love and attention that I deserve! I step up willingly and I love to sit by your shoulder or on your chest and give snuggles. I like to lay my head down and wait for you to scritch my favorite spots! I also like to clean fingernails and my foster family says I am super gentle when I do that. I do have two toenails that are ... (Read More)malformed, but I doubt you will notice. I did used to chew my feathers some in my previous home, but I have begun to stop that behavior and will continue to work on it with my foster family. I love foraging toys and I also love being the center of attention - hey, I am a Moluccan after all! I also like to talk and can say Peaches is a pretty girl, pretty bird, Chappy, and I can even wolf whistle! I also like to make the kissy sound when I want a kiss from you. I love being around kids, they provide me with lots of enjoyment and the action and entertainment I crave. I have even become a mascot for my foster brothers baseball team (don't worry - my foster family is very careful with me when we go outside and when around children and sports). Just so you know, I was in my old home with a Goffin Cockatoo named Baybee whom, while we are not bonded, I do get along with very well, so if you are looking for two birds, please check him out - he is also very sweet! Please come meet me soon, I can't wait to meet you and your family! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: BlueBlue & Gold Macaw (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Blue and I am a gorgeous 24 year old Blue and Gold Macaw. I came to Florida Parrot Rescue from a family where I was a one-person companion, but my owner passed away. I had been with my 'one family' my whole life from the time I was a hand-fed baby with no feathers to now, 24 years later. I miss my Mom - but her constant love over the years made me the confident, beautiful, and majestic parrot you see now. Sometimes I do lunge and may bite people I do not know, but that is something I am working on with my FPR foster family - I just need to be able to trust you is all! In general, I am very mild tempered and usually not ... (Read More)very vocal. I used to lays eggs frequently, but since coming into foster care I have not laid any at all, which is a good thing - these FPR folks know what they are doing and they know how to avoid chronic egg laying which could be dangerous for my health. My new foster Mom is currently working on adding pellets, fresh fruits, vegetables, and healthy nuts to my daily diet. I am used to eating peanut butter, cooked pasta, and pizza crust....but my foster mom said she is not going to spoil me with junk food, so we have to work on that healthy food thing she keeps talking about. My foster Mom says I am a very loving parrot, so please consider coming to meet me, all I want is to be back in a real home with new parronts to be loved once again by my very own family! Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello, I'm Taco and I love to talk, whistle, and chortle! My favorite words are Hello and Yeah! But when I get really excited I say things like Wow, wow, wow!, good birrrd, good girrrl, and hmmm? I make a couple of cool whistles as well and my foster home is trying to teach me the Mockingjay's whistle from the Hunger Games! I've got half of it down and mumble the rest so far. I came from a home with other birds that were not taken care of and my behavior was so bad that I was considered to be placed into a sanctuary. Because I wasn't being so nice to people, FPR gave me a second chance and sent me to a really nice lady (the FPR Behavior ... (Read More)Educator) who gave me lots of little treats when I did things she liked seeing. She never pushed me to do anything I didn't want to do and always let me make my own choices. I've been told that I'm a smart bird because I've been taught how to step up nicely, wave both of my feet, turn around, hang upside-down on cue, and I'm starting to learn the hokey-pokey, but really it's all thanks to my mom taking baby steps and being so nice to me! For those birds out there like me, please just remember that forced interaction and flooding are not the way to gain trust, that is how you scare birds. In order to gain trust, please use positive reinforcement methods - they work!! I now know that there are some really nice people out there and have been well behaved with all of my visitors.     My name is Gigie, I am a 14 year old Hahn's Macaw. I am very calm for a Hahn's, although I will let you know when you need to spend time with me. I will eat almost anything, but I love my chop for dinner - if there was a such thing as a fat bird, I am one. I have become more and more friendly since being in rescue although I prefer men, but women are OK, too. I do like to cuddle with my foster Mom and give her kisses (but my foster Dad said that took a lot of time and work). I will be a great companion to anyone who can spend time with me. Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello my name is Luck and I am a fully feathered 6 year old pint sized Blue and Gold Macaw. Since I was a wee little guy of 1 year old, I have lived in a home with A LOT of other birds. I did not mind the other birds because my mom and Dad were GREAT and they gave us so much love and attention. Something recently changed though and they could not take care of us anymore, so we came to Florida Parrot Rescue - and now I am looking for a new person to love me! I overheard my foster family commenting how easy I am to live with! I am just a happy guy that likes to hang out on my rope or on my cage. I like to step up from behind and I have never ... (Read More)screamed or even talked very loud. I make little contentment gurgles when I can just hang out in the same room with you. I REALLY like getting a spray bottle bath or a simple misting everyday! To show you how much I enjoy it I will spread my wings and wag my tail like a happy dog! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: SnickersQuaker Parakeet

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Well Hello - glad to see you are reading about me. My name is Snickers and my foster Mommy said I am as nutty as the candy bar, although she has told me that maybe I should have been named Sneaky as I've learned to open some of my cage doors. Was she surprised the one day when she came to check on me and I was on top of my cage!! Thought I had one over on her but she got smarter!! Dang!! When I first came to live with my foster parronts I was only used to eating a seed diet - but WOW there is a lot of delicious food out there that my foster Mommy has started to feed me. I love bananas and that 'chop stuff' she gives me as well as carrots ... (Read More)and some new thing called pellets. And boy the treats I get are yummy. I'm still a little cage aggressive but that comes with my breed. When I first came to my foster Mommy I didn't know what it was like to have my head scratched and petted - I didn't like it at first but now I sure look forward to it. I still won't step up to leave my cage so my foster Mommy will stand there and do these nice scratches and petting while I sit on top of my cage. She is patiently working with me on that 'step up' thing but I'm a little bit stubborn. She told me that with time, love, and patience I will get the knack of it and enjoy sitting on someones hand or shoulder. If I happen to fly from my cage and my foster Mommy has to pick me up to put me back, I do hang out on her shoulder for a bit. I heard her tell my foster Daddy that I am getting better at this. I like to listen to music and I also say a few words - like 'pretty pretty bird' 'what's up' and 'watch out' and I know in time I will say a lot more. Ya see, we quakers are very smart and playful birds. I didn't have any toys before I came here and at first I was a little afraid of them, but now - look out - I can destroy a toy in record time! My foster Mommy just keeps replacing them - she doesn't want me to get bored. I like when she talks to me and we bounce our heads up and down together. She sure does look funny doing this - I think I have her trained!!! I also love baths - my foster Mommy went and got this special tub thing, but I like to just take my daily bath in my large water dish. Wait till you see how far I can get the water to splash!!! Hope you plan on meeting me real soon cuz my foster Mommy said I will make the family who adopts me real happy. How about us sharing our happiness? Interested in adoption? Animal ID: PicassoLesser Sulphur Crested (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Picasso. I am a gorgeous 20 year old Lesser Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. I am playful, mischievous, and entertaining! I love to learn and show off - I can even unlock cage doors! I am also an indiscriminate lover - if you are willing to give the time, I am willing to give it right back! I do need someone that has a lot of time to give me though, because - as most cockatoos, I am very demanding of your time and attention. I did used to pluck but stopped about 10 years ago. I do have this very little bare patch down in the front of my belly, but I have learned how to groom myself to cover it up so it is not very obvious (my ... (Read More)foster Mom calls it a birdy comb over, lol!). I also like to talk, I can say 'Good morning, Picasso', 'Picasso is being a good boy?' and 'Baby'. I know how to say more, but I am trying to wait to meet my new family to show them everything that I can do and say! I am a very good eater, it is one of my favorite things to do. I love vegetables, pellets and fruit and chop is REALLY good! I am a cockatoo though and I can sometimes be a little noisy, my foster Mom is working really hard to help me with when that is appropriate and when it is not, and also to help me be a little less anxious when she is out of my range of vision - but I will not be able to live in an apartment or condo, so please make sure you have a place where I can be a bit loud when I need to be. I would really like it if you would fill out an application and come and meet me really soon! Interested in adoption?     Hello! My name is Betsy and I am 12 years old. I came into the world on September 4 2001 and I can live to be about 35-40 years old or more, so I am just a young thing with lots of life left. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to eat. I will try any food you give me although I do not like it all. My foster mom introduced me to chop and it's very yummy! She also let me find out about fruits, nuts, and some other great stuff that ekkies like me need in our diet - we do have a specialized diet, ya know? I like to take showers and will spread my wings. I am obviously very confident in my looks because as you can see, I am a nudist - but I hope to find a family ... Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello there! Our names are Mae and West (Mae rounded chest, West white spots on chest that look like a bowtie) and we are bonded to each other and must be adopted together. We came into rescue without having much fun or socialization in our lives. We were shy at first and our foster Mom had to give us some medicine, but now we feel better and are learning to play with toys and we really enjoy our ladder. We are working on stepping up, not quite there yet - but we will get there soon with some more training! We respond to our names with a bob up and down. West likes to turn over his bathtub as soon as it is put in for us. One of us wolf ... (Read More)whistles and Mom cannot figure out which one of us is doing it, hahahahaha! We are working on eating new foods and Mom is encouraging us to try pellets and fresh veggies. We are an open slate and are very happy to be living the good life now. Animal ID: BabySenegal (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Baby is an 8 year old female Senegal parrot. She's a calm and quiet bird like most Senegal species. She'll sit with you on your knee, shoulder or chest. She adores head scratches and will put her head down to receive the scratch offerings. She is independent and enjoys time with her toys. She is strong willed and demands you respect her space. She will come to you when she wants to spend time with you and if you're in the vicinity will hop quite the distance to get on you. We've nicknamed her The Hopper. She's not picky about food and on a healthy diet. Baby would do well in a calm and quiet house. She would not do well to be adopted by a ... (Read More)home with cats or dogs as they scare her. I wouldn't recommend Baby in a household with young children as she will bite fingers or hands that are not welcomed in her cage. She is jealous of other birds, so no physical interactions with other birds. She would do well as an only bird or someone with small birds that aren't interested in human interaction. Baby in every sense is a great companion parrot. The person she picks will have a very loving relationship with a sweetheart of a girl. Interested in adoption? Animal ID: JakeBlue & Gold Macaw (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Jake is a very well behaved blue and gold macaw, in fact, he is the most polite bird I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He says 'thank you' before taking a treat, or diving into his pellets. He also makes sure to greet you with a 'hello' or a 'good morning', and says 'goodbye' or 'good night' when I walk out of his room. Jake loves hanging out on my shoulder and nuzzling his face into my cheek. He is also quite a goofy bird while taking a shower, or meeting new people. He really perks up when men are around, and so I think he enjoys the company of both men and women. He has picked up a few words and sounds while staying with his foster ... Animal ID: PeleWhite Cap Pionus

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello there! My name is Pele and I am a 9 year old White Cap Pionus. My new foster Mom took me to the vet and it turns out that I have a vitamin A deficiency from being on a seed diet my whole life, which is not an appropriate diet for parrots. I am on medication now to correct this issue and my foster Mom has been ordered to change my diet to a healthier assortment to include quality pellets, fresh veggies, some fresh fruits, and healthy nuts (remember, no peanuts!) My foster Mom says I have a good appetite and so far I LOVE fresh broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, and apples the best, but I will keep trying new things! I also like to talk ... (Read More)in a raspy voice, sort of like a robot, and I like to say things like Hi Pele, Good Boy, and Hi! My foster Mom says I do say more things, but she can't quite make out what they are yet. So far, I have not let my foster Mom handle me though, so we need to work on being calm when she approaches me, trying not to lunge at her when she feeds me, and we need to work on the step up command, so we have enlisted the help of the FPR Behavior Educator so that we can get to a point where I am not scared and where my foster Mom doesn't get bit - it just may take some time, but I promise, I am worth it! I should be adopted into a home that is quiet with no small children, dogs, or cats though - I do NOT like these other types of animals - they really scare me. Plus, the word is that I like to walk around on the floor and follow you around the house (while playing with my wiffle ball toy - maybe I was named for a certain soccer player??), so we have to make sure I am safe while being able to do that - after all, exercise is good for you! I also need someone with lots of patience and love to give that is willing to work with me until I have the confidence to come out of my shell with people. I really hope that maybe that can be you? He does get a little jealous of others when his chosen person is around though (he may bite if someone gets too close to him and his chosen person). Snowy makes the sweetest coos and occasionally will laugh with the family, he ... (Read More)is very vocal and will carry on his own funny little conversations.... in his very own language! Like most U2's, he will scream if he feels that he is not getting enough attention. Snowy does pluck his abdominal/chest area but his feathers do still grow back as the follicles are not destroyed. We have not seen him pluck since he came into the foster home, so hopefully they will grow back. He enjoys being outside sitting on the 'front porch swing'. Snowy loves his greens and currently eats Roudybush pellets with fresh fruits and vegetables with some nuts. Please remember that this species of bird can live to be 80 years or older and needs a lot of attention on a daily basis. Snowy will make a great addition to your family and still has many years left to devote to you!!! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: BanditBlue & Gold Macaw (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Bandit is a 20-25 year old Blue & Gold Macaw who came to us recently from an emergency intake of several birds out of the same home. While Bandit is obviously missing quite a few feathers (that most likely will not grow back), she has been given a clean bill of health by our vet. She does need more bathes and a better diet to eventually improve the condition of the remaining feathers, but we are working on that J She is loving her new pellet blend diet along with lots of fresh veggies, fruit and nuts. She especially loves bananas! While she is not yet easily handleable, she shows a keen interest in interaction and is showing a lot of ... (Read More)improvement in the short time she has been with us. She has a wonderfully clear speaking voice and can say 'Hello', 'Goodbye' and she quacks like a duck, she is very funny! The previous owner said she likes to bite you and then say 'ouch', but we have not witnessed this behavior while she has been with us. Bandit has huge, soulful eyes and we feel that with time, patience and an owner understanding of macaw behavior, she will become a great companion! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: Navin & BarneyYellow Nape Amazon

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello, my name is Navin, I am a Yellow Nape Amazon and this is my best friend Barney, he is an Orange Winged Amazon, and we have to be adopted together. We have been together our entire life (more than 25 years) and we like to talk to each, however I say more English words then he does. He says 'Hi' and he likes to make a kissing sound, but I say 'Hello', 'What cha doin?', and 'You wanna come out?' I also say 'Here Kitty Kitty Kitty', 'Wanna come by me?', 'Whose a pretty bird', 'what's a chicken say? bock-bock-bock-bock-bock!'. I also can make donkey sounds and I have a little tune I love to sing that I like you to finish. My foster Mom says ... (Read More)the funniest thing is when I imitate one side of a telephone conversation and then laugh and laugh! I will step up occasionally and sometimes will sit on your shoulder and nuzzle you some, but Barney doesn't like to, although he is friendly. While we like humans of course, we really prefer each other, but we will interact with you - on our own terms of course! We also each have our separate large cages, but we prefer being in one cage together as long as we are allowed out of cage time for several hours a day, at least. Our other cage is used to take us outside for showers, fresh, air, and sunlight! We both like to eat, but I am more picky than Barney is, which Mom says is weird because she says I am on the chunkier side - I just say I am happy! We are on a fabulously healthy diet though which includes quality pellets, fresh vegetables (and chop!) as well as some fruits, and only healthy nuts (remember, no peanuts for parrots!). Please come and meet us soon, we would love to have a family of our own again! Interested in adoption? Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Hi there- my name is Zoey, I am a male Bare-eyed cockatoo. I am a cute, cunning little fellow. My Foster Mom is working with me to improve my diet. I love chop but am having a hard time finding a pellet that I will eat, I prefer junk so she is trying to get me to eat the good stuff. I hadn't been handled much from my previous owner, maybe it is because I bite. I am stick trained and don't mind being moved to my play stand via this method. I do need a very patient person to work with me to learn trust and help me learn to behave better, I am not a family bird yet, but my foster Mom will continue to work with me. I do talk and have a cute ... (Read More)squeaky voice. I need an experienced, patient cockatoo person to help me become the best pet ever. Are you up for a challenge? Animal ID: CharlieSulfur Crested Cockato

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Charlie is a sulfur crested cockatoo. He has always been called a 'he' but his sex is unknown as is his species. He is either a small medium sulfur crested or a hybrid of a lesser sulfur and a medium. Life hasn't always been easy for Charlie. In the first home we are aware of he was attacked by a pair of macaws. They destroyed his upper mandible. It has partially grown back, but his sinuses are still exposed and always will be. It hasn't inhibited him though from being active or from eating. He may not be able to crack a walnut, but he readily eats most anything else without assistance. His beak does however require trimming every four weeks ... (Read More)in order to keep from growing too long. If this isn't done it makes eating difficult and will cause it to become thin and brittle as well. Charlie's next home was with a well meaning person who took in more birds than she could handle. Compounded by the owner's poor health he was soon living in unhealthy conditions. The home was crowded and the air toxic. Now Charlie is living in foster care and having a blast. He loves to play with toys that he can stash in his boxes, and will actually unscrew toys hung from the top of the cage to add to his stash. He loves his foster mom. His foster dad? Well, not so much. Other birds? Again, not so much. Actually poor Charlie is rather anti social and seems to strongly bond to one person and one person only. He's extremely smart and is an escape artist. Charlie may not be perfect in appearance or behavior, but if you are looking for a challenge and are female he is worth the effort. To the one he chooses he is very loving and sweet. Interested in adoption? I may look a little funny though because my wing was broken at one point in my life and I wasn't treated by a vet, but it doesn't cause me any pain and I am just fine! Animal ID: ChampMollucan Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Champ is a real character and has never met a person he did not like. He has a wonderful disposition and is a real 'velcro' bird. Champ would hang out with you all day long if you let him, he just needs time to get used to you and any people need to go very slow with him. He did not come to us from an ideal situation and he has some insecurities because of that. He is however a typical Cockatoo and can be LOUD when he is feeling ignored, but for the most part, he is a fairly quiet bird, for a cockatoo anyway! As you may have noticed, Champ does not have tail feathers and he will not grow any (we call him the buttless wonder!). He had a wound ... (Read More)in that area which has long since healed but destroyed all follicles, however, all the plumbing works just fine! Champ has been converted to a healthy diet of pellets, fresh vegetables and fruit. He enjoys nuts as treats. He will try anything you offer. He is especially fond of sweet potatoes. Champ WILL NOT do well in a home with other cockatoos, he does like being around other birds, but NOT other cockatoos. He also does not like to be around other birds that are very loud. He is fine with other animals though, such as dogs. He is fine with men or women, but he does prefer men. Champ is under the age of 10 (best guess) and although he may not be the prettiest bird, he sure does have character and will make a great companion for the right family! Everyone who meets Champ falls in love with his sweet personality. Interested in adoption? PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in Florida
Birds can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.

Parrots mimic humans but do not mimic any other kind of animal in the wild. Most captive birds are unable to find a permanent home and experience some kind of abuse or neglect in their lifetimes. Parrots can die from exposure to normal household substances such as bleach fumes, perfumes, and anything sprayed from an aerosol can.
