Animal ID: BabyCockatoo

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi!!! My name is Baby and I'm a 20 yr old Moluccan Cockatoo. I will tell you that I'm a 'pretty, pretty girl' but no one knows if my DNA would agree. I am a certified cuddle bug and will step up for almost anyone who offers to pet me. I love to sit on your lap, snuggle or preen your hair for hours on end. I've lived with other parrots and dogs but am really indifferent to their presence. I've not spent much time around kids so not sure how I feel about them. I'm not known to be a biter but I do have a powerful beak that must be respected. My favorite activity is chewing on wood so never leave me unsupervised around furniture or even ... (Read More)wooden doors! I also like to dance, especially for an audience. Please check out my youtube video! https://youtu.be/Jy_QOxnIv9c I am not an excessive screamer but I do call to my flock every morning and evening and occasionally call for my people during the day. My voice would not likely be appreciated in an apartment, condo or densely populated area. I make a variety of other noises such as clicks and I whistle as well. I eat a variety of fresh fruits and veggies but I'm not so sure about the pellets my foster mom keeps putting in my bowl. My kind can live to be more than 90 yrs old so I would be a lifelong commitment, but if you have patient ears and a big heart I would make a great companion. I hope you'll come to meet me soon. Would you like to send me a welcome to Rescue gift? I would really appreciate it! Here is a link to my Amazon wishlist. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2WD61XXNMJNZC/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by. I'll be waiting to meet you !!! Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! My name is Mellie and I am a female Eclectus. It's not known how old I am but the Vet guesses I am around 20 years old or older. I am working on being handled but I have not been handled much in the past so it's new to me and I'm a little scared. I know with love, patience and time I will look forward to stepping up onto my favorite humans' hand, arm or shoulder! I am on such a healthy diet! I love pellets, fruits and veggies. I am very quiet, I do make some different noises but nothing loud. I am a special needs bird because of an injury that I was found with. The circulation in my left leg was affected by something that may ... (Read More)have been wrapped around my leg before the good people at FPR took me in. I have meds that I take daily and I will have to take for the rest of my life. If you are interested in adopting me, please be prepared and able to administer these to me. My foster mom will show you how to do it. I also need special food that can only be purchased through the vet. My foster mommy will explain all this to you as well. My foster mom says I am a very good bird. Wouldn't you like to come meet a good bird like me and take me home forever? I'd sure like to meet you!!!! While you are waiting to meet me, would you like to buy me something from my wish list? I especially need some different sized perches which will help my circulation issues. Animal ID: Spencer and Petriecockatiel (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi Everyone! Our names are Spencer and Petrie. We are a happily bonded pair of female cockatiels, approximately 16 yrs old, who have lived together for all of our lives. We have always been loved and well taken care of. Originally we lived with a great man up until he passed. We were then given to his neighbor who loved us dearly but due to life's circumstances, she was forced to find a new home for us. We are so thankful that the wonderful folks at FPR found us and took us to a new, temporary home. Our new foster mother is super nice to us. She took us to the birdie doctor when she first got us. The dr said that because we are used to ... (Read More)flying we could only get a 'baby' wing clip because we could hurt ourselves if all of a sudden we couldn't fly at all anymore. Our foster mom understands that we can still sort of fly and she lets us fly around her house. We are not picky eaters and love fresh fruits and vegetables. We will come out and play with our foster mother as long as she has fruits and vegetables in her hand. Lately, we've been really warming up to her and we let her pick us up whenever she wants to. She keeps telling us how sweet and how pretty we are so we reward her with whistles and cute little chirps. We must be adopted together because we would miss each other greatly. We are sisters in every sense of the word. We even argue! But we love each other greatly. We cannot wait to go to our new forever home and show our new parronts the same love that we show each other. Could our new forever home be with you? Please come meet us and let's find out! While you are waiting to meet us, would you like to send us a gift from our Amazon wish list? Animal ID: SundaeMoluccan Cockatoo

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi everyone! My name is Sundae and everyone originally thought my name was Saturday'|.go figure! So, you might recognize me by that name. I am 50 years old and I was loved very much by my original owner for 50 years, who recently passed away. I was locked in a room with my furry cat friend, which seemed like forever, but I really think it was only for a day or so, until some nice people saved us. Everyone believes I am a Hybrid Moluccan and Umbrella Cockatoo, but I am the one who really knows for sure.. hehe As you can tell by my photo, I am so beautiful and I am very loving to anyone who crosses my path, provided I am not busy ... (Read More)playing with my ice cream sticks'| Hmm Ice Cream Sundae, Ice Cream Sticks, that is a familiar name. Oh, that is right, that is my name. I love my new foster mommy and she has great parents and a son who lives with her and they all like me so much. I look forward to when she comes home from work so we can play and snuggle together. My diet consists of, pellets, seeds, nuts, assortment of fruits and vegetables. I have a soft spot for almonds in the shell and oatmeal. Oh, and that cinnamon stick that comes in my food is very tasty to chew up as well. I only like to be in my cage when I go to bed at night. Otherwise, I like to be out and about with the family. I will bring you trinkets and snacks to share with you. I am not very noisy, but I do let you know when it is bed time or I might be wanting some additional attention. I have one sentence I say over and over and my foster Mommy is still trying to figure out what it is. Something about a baby. Maybe you would like to come meet me and see if YOU can figure out what I'm saying? I know I would just fit right in with your family, I so want to find my forever home. Thanks for stopping by! Animal ID: JitterbugOrange Wing Amazon

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Hello out there! My name is Jitterbug! I am a 3 yr old Orange Wing Amazon parrot and I'm just cute as a bug. Wait. Bugs aren't really that cute, so, I'm MUCH cuter than a bug! Since I came to Rescue, I've been converted to a very healthy diet. I now eat pellets, veggies and fruits. Matter of fact, now that I've started down the healthy road, I am sure you could try giving me lots of other bird friendly yummies and I would eat those too. You know us Amazons, we normally do like to eat! When I first came to Rescue, I would only let my foster mom handle me. Now, I am so much happier and more relaxed, I will let more than just ladies handle me ... (Read More)which my foster mom said is great. I am also a very good talker and will gladly tell you that you are so pretty or I love you. I also really enjoy listening to opera music. I will step up onto your hand or arm when the mood strikes me but once I have, I really like it when you give me head scritches. I come with a pretty big cage. Although I don't feel the need to defend it, I do get highly upset if you go into it and I will scream at you! After all, what are you doing in MY cage anyway? Birds like me live around 50 years and I am only 3 years old! I am looking for a forever family that is committed to having me around for a long time. Could you be part of that family? Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi Everyone! My name is Molly and I am a 25 yr old Lesser Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. (Whew, say that 3 times fast!) In my previous life, I was used as a breeder. I lost my toes and a portion of my beak to my former mate. Now, though, in spite of my injuries, I am still a cuddle bug with the right lady. I will gladly take treats and accept head scritches from anybody but I will only cuddle with a lady. Hey, we are all entitled to our own preferences, right? :) When I first came into Rescue, I was not on a very healthy diet. Fortunately for me, these good people at FPR know exactly what I'm supposed to be eating! Now I get yummy veggies, ... (Read More)fruits and Zupreem pellets. I love chew toys and I love to give kisses. I will also give you a whistle when I want your attention. Other than my attention whistle, I am very quiet for a cockatoo. Animal ID: Mr. MagooAfrican Grey

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi there. My name is Mr. Magoo and I'm an African Grey. I'm a man of few words, actually I'm a bird of no words. Who knows, maybe someday I might talk. We are not sure of my age because we don't know much about my past life before Rescue . I'm at the very least 26 years old (I have a wild caught band on my foot.) My foster mom and dad think I'm older than that though. I'm fully blind in one eye and I can't see too much out of my other eye either. I haven't been handled in quite a few years so I'm still scared of people. I can be very protective of my space. My foster mom thinks with some time and patience I'll be able to learn to ... (Read More)trust again. The cage I came into Rescue in was too small and it had rust on it. My grip strength and my wings are weak, but with my new roomy cage and new healthy diet I'll get stronger. Thanks to the wonderful people at Florida Parrot Rescue, I received a beautiful cage and some new toys. My foster mom and dad are working on getting me on a good diet. Now I'm eating Higgin's safflower mix and Higgin's naturals. I haven't decided who 'my person' is yet. I do scream when someone approaches my cage, so please move slowly around me. I'm still very scared but, I'm slowly starting to trust. I don't seem to mind the four-legged friends in the house, but please make sure we are always supervised if we are in the same room together. (We may seem like good buddies but dogs *are* predators.) I'm looking forward to a forever home. Could that be with you? Please come meet me and let's find out! While you are waiting to meet me, would you like to buy me something from my Amazon Wish list? I sure would appreciate it!     Hiya! My name is Rosie and the pretty pink pip squeak is my friend Lulu. We are a bonded pair of Bourke's Parakeets. Lulu is only 5 years old so she's a little spunkier than me. She likes entertaining everyone with her dancing and singing. My 12 years of life experience has mellowed me out a little. I prefer to spend most of my time on my favorite swing watching over my friend. I will come out of the cage to explore if you leave the door open, but watch where you step as I'm a ground foraging species so I like to search the floor for stray seeds. Our favorite treats are millet, chopped broccoli and shredded carrots. Our mom loved us very much but was unable to continue caring for us do to financial hardship so she contacted Florida Parrot Rescue to help find us a safe and loving home. Animal ID: BogeyBlue & Gold Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! My name is Bogey and I am an 18 year old Blue and Gold Macaw. Before coming to live with my foster mum, I had been in the same home all 18 years of my life. Mum and dad got so busy, that I was ignored for a very long time. Because of that, I don't know how to interact with humans anymore so they decided I would be better off in a home that I could have the attention I deserve, and in turn, learn to love humans again. I like food, and I suggest that when you approach me and offer me your hand in friendship, it has food in it. If it doesn't, well, I hate to admit it, but I might actually bite. But it's easy to keep me from biting, like ... (Read More)I said, just offer me food :) I do scream a little but now I have these fun things called toys I don't feel the urge to scream as much as I use to. Still, I am not suited to condo or apartment living. I wasn't on the best of diets before but my foster mum is sneaking in some healthy pellets. They look kinda boring cause they are not pretty colors but I am beginning to start nibbling on them and they aren't too bad! She cheated just a bit and mixed a little seed in with them and I sure do love that! I am just loving all these fresh veggies I get for my evening meal and my foster mum hasn't found a veggie I won't eat yet. I used to love canned pineapple for snacks but I have been converted to raw almonds, pine nuts... well, really you can give me any type of nut and I will take it right from your hand. My favorite pastime is having long talks with my foster mum from atop my cage. She is pretty tall (she has a kinda funny accent too) but I will bend over and put my face right by hers so we can talk eye to eye. I am so wishing for a forever home so I can become part of a family and feel the love and compassion I have missed for so long. I will need someone with patience, who is willing to work with me and love me unconditionally. I know, in time, I will become that loving, wonderful, companion that I used to be. Won't you please come meet me and see if you could be the person I've been looking for? I just know you are out there, somewhere! While you are making plans to meet me, would you like to send me a gift from my Amazon wish list? I would be so happy and excited to get a gift! Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Sweet Umbrella Cockatoo. Snowball hatched on May 5th, 2000. She is going to be 16 very soon! Loves ladies, a few guys, but prefers a female human who will give her lots of snuggles under her blankie. She has a large cage with plexiglass feeder and toys. Her diet is pellets, a few seeds, fruit and veggies, plus a few human treats. She loves buttered toast occasionally. Our living situation has changed and she is not a happy girl. Please let me know if you want more info. This parrot is an excellent companion bird. She deserves better than I can offer right now.

Animal ID: JackieBlue and Gold Macaw

Pet Bird

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi! My name is Jackie and I am a beautiful Blue & Gold Macaw. At first, I was afraid of my foster mommy because I was in a new environment, but now I absolutely love her. I do some tricks like waving my hand and saying hello and when my foster mom says 'where's the my pretty girl?', I show her my wings especially - if there's a treat involved! I do also often mumble and sometimes say bad words though, so try not to encourage me too much on that end. I love almonds, apples, and oranges - they are my favorites. I also eat my bird pellets and some fresh fruits and veggies. I'm kinda picky, but my foster mommy is helping me out with that. I am ... (Read More)protective of certain toys in my cage, so you just need to be aware of that. I do know how to fly even with my wings trimmed, so please make sure that when we go outside that I am either in a predator proof cage, travel crate, or in a harness. I also love bath time, especially on my bird stand out in the sun! I do step up, but only after I get to know you and feel I can trust you. I can be very loud at times, but, after all, I am a macaw!! I do prefer women over men, but maybe if you come meet me, we can figure out together if I am the right bird for you? I hope you will come meet me very soon. In the meantime, maybe you would like to send me a welcome to rescue gift? If so, you can see my wish list on amazon at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/DARAHH54ALQC/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_o? All gifts will be cherished! Thank you! Beaky love to you, Jackie (Less)

Animal ID: PeanutWhite Capped Pionus

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello there! My name is Peanut. I am a gorgeous White Capped Pionus and I am about 8-9 years old. I love love love to eat! My foster family has successfully converted me to a healthy diet. I eat Zupreem pellets, chop and some fruit. I do like to try new foods, especially if I see you eating them first! My wonderful foster family introduced me to these things called toys. Wow! I just love those too, especially the wicker kind that I can shred. Sometimes my foster mommy buys me 5 at a time I go through them so fast. I like to do other things besides eat and play with my toys though. I like to hang out on top of my cage, and I ... (Read More)like to climb down off my cage and go walking about. Please, when I am walking about, make sure that I'm supervised so other members of my new family don't accidently step on me, or worse. I will step up for either a man or woman (no preference here, I'm fond of everyone) and I like to hang out with you on your lap. You will know if I'm content because you will hear me purring, much like your furry feline friends. I also like head scritches, but you have to be patient and give me time to get to know you before I will allow you to touch my head. I do have a hormonal implant that I received in February, 2016. FPR and the vet are hoping that it will last an entire year. The cost for the entire procedure is about $300.00. This implant has greatly improved the quality of my life and we would all like to continue with it, even after I find my forever home. My adoptive family should plan for this financially. My foster mom can give you more detailed information about it should you be interested in meeting me. Speaking of which....I would love to find my forever home! I have come a long way since I first came into Rescue. My foster mom says I'm fairly quiet so there are no restrictions on what type of dwelling I need to live in. I would sure love for you to come on out and meet me. Perhaps we could go home together? In the meantime, would you like to buy me one of my favorite wicker toys so I can keep on shredding? Here is the link to my Amazon wish list. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/23NDB85PLSF0V/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Thank you so much, hope to meet you soon! Animal ID: Lu-ManQuaker

Pet Bird

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Lu. My foster Mom calls me the Lu-Man - or sometimes 'The Mean Green Terrorizer!' I am a 5 year old quaker parrot and my foster Mommy says I am very special. I had an accident with my beak that has left me with only a partial beak on one side, but I am able to get around just fine and I am eating regular pellets, chop, fresh vegetables and fruits, and healthy nuts - almonds are my favorite nuts! However, I also go crazy over Caitec Birdie Munchie Cookies and I have to have chop every day, or I will vocalize until I get it! My care is a little bit specialized though and FPR says I will only be adopted to the right ... (Read More)family. I do live in a very large aquarium which has to be cleaned every night before bedtime, rather than a regular parrot cage. I also have to go to the vet every month for a beak trim - this needs to be done by an avian vet to make sure it is done in a very specific way so that I am can still get around and eat properly. Don't worry though - my small handicap does not take away from my bite! I can be very territorial of my cage and I only like certain people. In fact, when I pick the person I trust, watch out - you better not come near, because I will defend that person from you! My chosen person enjoys shoulder time with me and a nice preen of their face and hair. I don't like hands though - even the hands of my chosen person, so I only step up in a certain way - don't worry, my foster mom can show you, it is easy. With more time, I may learn to trust your hands as long as you are very patient and loving with me. I really hope that you will come and visit with me soon. In the meantime, maybe you can send me some of my favorite things thorough my wish list at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2US4THPOPJI7T/ref=cm_wl_list_o_146? All gifts are greatly appreciated! UPDATE FROM LU-MAN'S FOSTER MOM: While The Lu Man still only has half a beak (he will never have a full beak as the growth plate was damaged) more than 1.5 yrs after he was bitten on his beak by another bird, he is finally healed and has graduated from living in an aquarium to a real cage! He seems very happy about the progress he has made! Interested in adoption? PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in Florida
Birds can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.

lnteresting Bird Trivia Low-Cost Florida Spay & Neuter Clinics
Parrots mimic humans but do not mimic any other kind of animal in the wild. Most captive birds are unable to find a permanent home and experience some kind of abuse or neglect in their lifetimes. The use of nonstick cookware can be extremely toxic to parrots living in the home. Parrots can die from exposure to normal household substances such as bleach fumes, perfumes, and anything sprayed from an aerosol can.
