Animal ID: IkePeach Front Conure (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! I am Ike, a 7-year-old male peach-front conure. I am new to my foster home but it didn't take me very long to decide I liked my foster family. My favorite thing to do it sit on a tall glass of ice water on the kitchen counter and help with dishes. I even talk conure-jargon to the ice cubes. I think I was supposed to be a fish because I also love talking showers with my foster mommy. I also give kisses once I trust you. I do step up, but I do not like it when my foster folks try to touch me or scratch my head. I prefer to sit with them and be near them in the same room, on my own terms. I tend to get a little nippy when I get ... (Read More)overwhelmed and want to be left alone - so you have to learn to watch my cues. I spend the majority of the day out of the cage which I really love!. At night time, when I start to get tired I put myself to sleep by crawling into my sleeping hut. I sleep until 8am the next morning. I am not a noisy bird but will alert you when someone or another animal is outside. I was primarily on a diet that consisted of seeds, but my foster mommy has been feeding me a healthier diet of pellets and fresh fruits and veggies. I may be slightly protective of my cage, but my foster mommy has been working with me and it seems to be getting better. My previous owner and new foster mommy both have busy homes and I am used to children, dogs, and cats. I am a wonderful little sweet guy that loves companionship. Please come meet me very soon! Animal ID: Sir Humphrey Gilbert & FriendsBudgie/Parakeets

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Sir Humphrey Gilbert and my best buds are Tweety, Sylvester, and Sunny. All four of us are tightly bonded and we all love each other very much, so we have to be adopted together. Tweety and Sylvester are the older of us, around 6-7 years old, and Sunny and I are just a couple of years younger. While we enjoy each others company the most, we are Ok with people and are even handleable (some of us more than others). We usually spend the day eating, preening, chewing up cuttlebones, rummaging around on the cage floor, and playing with our toys. We are constantly chattering and interacting with each other and are a very ... (Read More)lively and happy group. We love to eat and are currently on an a healthy diet for birds like us including a seed/pellet mix and we also love chop and sprouted seeds, our favorite is millet of course, though! Please come and meet us and take us home with you - we are sure to light up your life with our crazy antics and our beautiful chatterings! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: BirdieMoluccan Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Howdy everyone, my name is Birdie! I am an 8 year old male Moluccan cockatoo. My favorite things include head scritches, peas and carrots, and spending time with humans as much as I possibly can. In fact, if I could sit on your shoulder all day, every day, that would be just fine by me! I can tell you what a 'good boy' I am, laugh at a good joke, and I'll even flatter you with a whistle when you are looking good (or not good - I don't judge!). I'm often told that I'm 'just the sweetest thing' - whatever that means! When my sister passed away, I started picking at my neck. I don't pay much attention to that area when I'm entertained, but I ... (Read More)do pick when I'm bored or lonely. I sure do need lots of attention! Because of this, sometimes I have to wear a cone or vest. Won't you come check me out and give me a forever home? We can have so much fun together! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: BennySevere Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Benny and I am a young Severe Macaw. My foster Mom says I am very acrobatic, I love to hang upside down and to walk around the house looking for you. It does take me a while to warm up to new people, but once I do, then I want to be with you all the time! I do eat very healthy now including pellets, fresh vegetables, fruits, and healthy nuts. I do like seed and my foster Mommy is having a hard time getting me to give that last little bit up - but she is such a sucker for me so this may take a while. I am still getting used to taking showers, I am not so sure about that part - I guess it feels good, I just need a little ... (Read More)more time with it. I do also love watermelon and almonds in the shell! I strongly prefer women and I do not care for children. I love going outside on a screened in porch where my foster mom supervises me so I can get sunlight - this makes my feathers real pretty. I do also like hanging out on the top of my cage as well and sometimes I will whistle for you, but I am generally pretty quiet. I really hope that you will come and meet me soon - just don't be offended if I am a little stand-offish at first, give me time and I will come around! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: HaroldSevere Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

My name is Harold and I am an 8 year old Severe Macaw. I am a good bird who strongly prefers men. I would do best with a single male or at least a male as my primary caregiver. I am a great talker and my foster parents are still finding out new things I say every day. I eat a variety of food well but my foster Dad is working on converting me to a healthy diet of pellets, vegetables and fruits and by the way, I LOVE nuts as treats - only healthy nuts though like pistachios and almonds - no peanuts! I also really love to enjoy meal time with my human. Since I am a macaw, I can be very loud when I want to be but for the most part I am quiet ... (Read More)(for a bird anyway)! Animal ID: RemiCockatiel (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Baby

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi! My name is Remi and I am just a little over a year old and as you can see, I am a most handsome Cockatiel. My mommy had to go away to college to get 'edjumacated' and thought I'd be happier in a home where I could have the attention I deserve. She was right, I LOVE PEOPLE! My foster mom keeps telling me what a 'sweetie' I am. I will hang out on your shoulder as long as you let me (sometimes I even get a little mad by giving you a tiny nip when you try to remove me) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE head scritches! In case you don't scritch in the right place, I will move my head against your finger and nudge you until you get it right. My foster mom ... (Read More)is teaching me how to eat pellets, veggies, and fruits. I'm not there yet, but hopefully I will be soon. I am so sweet and loveable, I know you will want to take me home as soon as you meet me. Won't you come meet me today? Interested in adoption? Animal ID: ButtersCockatiel

Pet Bird    Age: Senior

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Hello! My name is Butters and I am an adorable and very healthy cockatiel. Life has not always been easy for me - I am what they call a senior cockatiel (around age 15 give or take a year) and the FPR veterinarians have found that I am completely blind. This may turn some people off, but I promise I am not hard to take care of. You just have to approach me with sound cues rather than visual cues so you do not scare me, and just so you know, life would be easier for me in a quiet home. Please also don't change around the things in my cage - since I can't see I have to know how to get to my food and water dishes easily. I LOVE to be out of ... (Read More)my cage with you and to snuggle into your cheek and neck. I will rub my face against yours to let you know how much I love and appreciate you. I will stay on your shoulder all day if you let me and will join you in anything you need to do - I don't care what it is, watch TV, work on the computer, whatever - as long as I can ride along safely! I am really looking forward to finding someone who will love me and care for me for the rest of my days - of which I do still have many left. So please come meet me soon and let me become part of your family! Interested in adoption? Rescue Me ID: 14-09-08-00695Cockatoo

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

This is a great bird - he is very lovable, and enjoys being held, and likes to sit on your shoulder. Mimics sounds very easily, but only knows one word - 'hello.' The bird is approximately 15 years old - still quite young. I have had the bird for about 6 years now. Loves to be outside, and loves music. Wings are clipped, enjoys most any food, but doesn't really like parrot food, receives a spray bottle bath daily to minimize dust. Missing a toenail, though. Unsure of sex, but believe it is female due to coloration of eyes. This bird has made a wonderful pet, but I can no longer tend to his/her needs. Really want to find someone who is ... (Read More)passionate about birds like I was, and will be able to give the bird the love and attention it deserves. Bird is in a non-smoking home with no other pets. Loves attention, loves to dance to music, doesn't make much noise other than mimicking sounds and noises that he/she hears. Very affectionate, loves to be scratched. Comes with original cage when I got him/her - some rust spots on cage, doesn't endanger the bird. Cage comes with feeder and water pan; also comes with some toys that he/she never plays with. If you're interested, please let me know. I have loved this bird, and it breaks my heart to know I can no longer give him/her the time and attention he/she needs. (Less)

Hello! My name is Silver Bell and I am about a year old. As you can see I have wonderful feathered colors of dark blue and gray. I love to chirp and entertain you with my antics. My foster Mom keeps trying to get me to eat these things called pellets and I am not too sure about them. I came into Florida Parrot Rescue on an all seed diet, which is inappropriate for any bird, so I will keep trying out these pellets to see if maybe I will get to like them. I am also getting all types of green foods which I am also not too sure about and my foster Mom also sprouts seeds for part of my diet, which I hear is the healthy way to have seeds. I ... Animal ID: SkeeterQuaker Parakeet

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi, my name is Skeeter. I am a very animated Quaker Parrot. Some people call me a Quaker Parakeet. Just don't forget my name is Skeeter. I know my name and I won't let you forget it, either. I say it very clearly and I can even mimic wildlife, too. When I want to, I say things like: Skeeter, Thank you, Welcome, Good Boy, Bad Boy, Pretty Boy, Whatcha Doin?, What?, Go outside, Go Lay Down, Sit down, Sit, Gimme Kiss, Kiss-Kiss-Kiss, Brown Dog, C'mon Rock, let's go, Rocky Road. Some things are not so clear, but you can still tell what I am saying. I am new to my foster home but like them very much. It didn't take me long (like maybe a minute) ... (Read More)to decide I liked them. They have dogs and I don't mind them being around at all. Most birds like me are very cage aggressive, but I am not too bad about it. I like a toy with a bell on it, to make noise of course, and if you play music for me I will dance around. My new foster Mom made a new toy special for me. I step up very well and I am very loveable and like to be with you as much as you will allow. If you leave me alone, I let you know I don't like it much, but I am easily calmed. I do especially like sitting on your shoulder, getting my head scratched, and walking around with you or just chilling with you. I do get a little nippy if I am startled, but mostly I hear the humans say I am a little love bug. I eat healthy pellets, chopped veggie's, and will try new things, but sometimes I don't like it. Most of all, I just want to be your friend and get and give lots of love and attention! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: BluBlue & Gold Macaw (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Blue and I am a gorgeous 24 year old Blue and Gold Macaw. I came to Florida Parrot Rescue from a family where I was a one-person companion, but my owner passed away. I had been with my 'one family' my whole life from the time I was a hand-fed baby with no feathers to now, 24 years later. I miss my Mom - but her constant love over the years made me the confident, beautiful, and majestic parrot you see now. Sometimes I do lunge and may bite people I do not know, but that is something I am working on with my FPR foster family - I just need to be able to trust you is all! In general, I am very mild tempered and usually not ... (Read More)very vocal. I used to lays eggs frequently, but since coming into foster care I have not laid any at all, which is a good thing - these FPR folks know what they are doing and they know how to avoid chronic egg laying which could be dangerous for my health. My new foster Mom is currently working on adding pellets, fresh fruits, vegetables, and healthy nuts to my daily diet. I am used to eating peanut butter, cooked pasta, and pizza crust....but my foster mom said she is not going to spoil me with junk food, so we have to work on that healthy food thing she keeps talking about. My foster Mom says I am a very loving parrot, so please consider coming to meet me, all I want is to be back in a real home with new parronts to be loved once again by my very own family!     Hello, my name is Baybee. I am a female, 12 year old Cockatiel. I've a good life with my parents, healthy, happy and well cared for. Until recently I lived my whole life with them, until my mom got very sick. She and dad were gone a lot, I would go to birdie camp at the vet's office for days at a time. Mom and dad decided that I needed a new family that can continue to take care and love me the way I deserve. Saying goodbye was a very sad day for me, I miss my mom a lot. I call for her even though I know she's not here. My foster parents are taking great care of me, I am already on a pelleted diet and have started tasting something called ... (Read More)chop.     Hi there! My name is Taco and I am a Yellow Nape Amazon. I have been in foster for a very short time, and my foster mom is working very hard with switching my food from seed and peanuts to pellets, fresh vegetables, some fresh fruit, and healthy nuts like almonds and pistachios. She is also working with the Florida Parrot Rescue Behavior Educator because I am a bit scared. Some people might see me as aggressive - but I just need love, patience, time, trust, and training. I do speak some and can say hello and I also try to sing along with Jimmy Buffet, and I really like the Star Wars sound track. I am very pretty, so my foster mom keeps ...     This beautiful pigeon walked into my shop at work some time ago. He has a leg band, but I've been unable to locate his owner, despite lots of efforts thru pigeon associations & craigslist.     Hello, my name is Sunny. I am in my early 20's and I am a beautiful blue front amazon. My Mom had to go live in a nursing home and I was boarded at a veterinarian hospital for a really long time before the people at Florida Parrot Rescue heard about me and came to get me.     Well Hello - glad to see you are reading about me. When I first came to my foster Mommy I didn't know what it was like to have my head scratched and petted - I didn't like it at first but now I sure look forward to it. I still won't step up to leave my cage so my foster Mommy will stand there and do these nice scratches and petting while I sit on top of my cage. She is patiently working with me on that 'step up' thing but I'm a little bit stubborn. She told me that with time, love, and patience I will get the knack of it and enjoy sitting on someones hand or shoulder. If I happen to fly from my cage and my foster Mommy has to pick me up to put me back, I do hang out on her shoulder for a bit. I heard her tell my foster Daddy that I am getting better at this. I like to listen to music and I also say a few words - like 'pretty pretty bird' 'what's up' and 'watch out' and I know in time I will say a lot more. Ya see, we quakers are very smart and playful birds. I didn't have any toys before I came here and at first I was a little afraid of them, but now - look out - I can destroy a toy in record time! My foster Mommy just keeps replacing them - she doesn't want me to get bored. I like when she talks to me and we bounce our heads up and down together. She sure does look funny doing this - I think I have her trained!!! I also love baths - my foster Mommy went and got this special tub thing, but I like to just take my daily bath in my large water dish. Wait till you see how far I can get the water to splash!!! Hope you plan on meeting me real soon cuz my foster Mommy said I will make the family who adopts me real happy. How about us sharing our happiness? Interested in adoption? Animal ID: PicassoLesser Sulphur Crested (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Picasso. I am a gorgeous 20 year old Lesser Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. I am playful, mischievous, and entertaining! I love to learn and show off - I can even unlock cage doors! I am also an indiscriminate lover - if you are willing to give the time, I am willing to give it right back! I do need someone that has a lot of time to give me though, because - as most cockatoos, I am very demanding of your time and attention. I did used to pluck but stopped about 10 years ago. I do have this very little bare patch down in the front of my belly, but I have learned how to groom myself to cover it up so it is not very obvious (my ... (Read More)foster Mom calls it a birdy comb over, lol!). I also like to talk, I can say 'Good morning, Picasso', 'Picasso is being a good boy?' and 'Baby'. I know how to say more, but I am trying to wait to meet my new family to show them everything that I can do and say! I am a very good eater, it is one of my favorite things to do. I love vegetables, pellets and fruit and chop is REALLY good! I am a cockatoo though and I can sometimes be a little noisy, my foster Mom is working really hard to help me with when that is appropriate and when it is not, and also to help me be a little less anxious when she is out of my range of vision - but I will not be able to live in an apartment or condo, so please make sure you have a place where I can be a bit loud when I need to be. I would really like it if you would fill out an application and come and meet me really soon! Interested in adoption?     Hello! My name is Betsy and I am 12 years old. I came into the world on September 4 2001 and I can live to be about 35-40 years old or more, so I am just a young thing with lots of life left. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to eat. I will try any food you give me although I do not like it all. My foster mom introduced me to chop and it's very yummy! She also let me find out about fruits, nuts, and some other great stuff that ekkies like me need in our diet - we do have a specialized diet, ya know? I like to take showers and will spread my wings. I am obviously very confident in my looks because as you can see, I am a nudist - but I hope to find a family ... I am learning how to play with toys and I especially like to chew on thin wood. Do you like my blue eye shadow? I think it gives that extra flare to my individual look! Animal ID: ElvisMoluccan Cockatoo (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Hello, my name is Elvis! I'm a 21 year old DNA tested Female Moluccan Cockatoo and a bit of a nudist. Don't let my lack of feathers or my famous name scare you away! I am a shy girl, so it will take some time for me to warm up to you. I used to pluck my feathers a lot and have even had surgery to repair a hole I made in my chest - I will always carry the scar there. My feathers will probably not grow back but I have not been plucking or picking at that scarred area for a long time (many years) and the vet says I am good to go! I would love to be your companion and watch what you are doing, so I can help too. There are quite a few toys in ... (Read More)my cage and playstand that I'm learning to play with. Foster mom lets me watch cartoons but I really enjoy it when we sit on the patio outside with the sun on my feathers. Since I am a 'too, I like to take baths often, as we are very dusty birds. Pellets are the favorite part of my diet and foster mom gives me lots of fresh fruit, veggies, grains and Birdie bread. The vet thinks that some of my feather issues may be partly due to my former diet so that's why I am eating healthier foods now for my 'older years.' I have not met my foster siblings yet but I hear their voices at mealtime and when the whole flock is ready for lights out. We all love to go crazy and squawk our final goodnights to each other, but I am the most quiet of the bunch. I don't talk much during the day but when I do, it is a very soft, little girl voice. If I am frightened, I do scream loud! After all, I am a cockatoo!! I would love to share my life with you if you are willing to be patient with me. I am a good girl and was a beloved family member until my owner got sick. Even though I'm 'middle aged' I have a lot of loving years to give that someone special. I love to help her when she works at the computer, I will climb on her head! I am not into veggies and fruits too much, but my foster Mom encourages me to try them all the time along with a balanced diet that includes pellets (remember, Quakers should never have seeds!). Our foster Mom keeps trying to get us to eat these things called pellets along with our normal seed mix, we aren't so sure about those, but she keeps trying! Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello there! My name is Luigi and I am a quaker parrot. When I came into my foster home, I immediately took to pellets - SO much better than those seeds I had been eating. I also really love chop, bird bread, almonds, bananas, and sweet potatoes. My foster Mom is still working on getting me to try more new foods - I cooperate sometimes - mostly just so she keeps trying because it is funny to watch her try and come up with new things I will eat, lol! I am not too sure about these toy things she keeps putting in my cage, but I found one I kind of like, mostly I just grab it and shake it if my foster Mom does something I don't like - but ... (Read More)that's OK - we are just taking time to learn all about each other. I had not been out of my cage in a very long time before coming to my foster home, but my foster Mom just waited me out - after about 4 weeks I finally came out on my own for a taste of some of Gini's BirdieBread Muffins and Cones - I am a just a little scared is all - but obviously very food oriented! Stepping up is a whole other thing though, but my foster Mom goes slow with me and we are both working with the Florida Parrot Rescue Behavior Educator on handling. It will take some time, but I am looking forward to human companionship that does not scare me. I hope that after some progress in the right direction that maybe you can come and meet me and give me the chance that my Foster Mom says I deserve - to be loved and cared no matter what! Animal ID: BabySenegal (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Baby is an 8 year old female Senegal parrot. She's a calm and quiet bird like most Senegal species. She'll sit with you on your knee, shoulder or chest. She adores head scratches and will put her head down to receive the scratch offerings. She is independent and enjoys time with her toys. She is strong willed and demands you respect her space. She will come to you when she wants to spend time with you and if you're in the vicinity will hop quite the distance to get on you. We've nicknamed her The Hopper. She's not picky about food and on a healthy diet. Baby would do well in a calm and quiet house. She would not do well to be adopted by a ... (Read More)home with cats or dogs as they scare her. I wouldn't recommend Baby in a household with young children as she will bite fingers or hands that are not welcomed in her cage. She is jealous of other birds, so no physical interactions with other birds. She would do well as an only bird or someone with small birds that aren't interested in human interaction. Baby in every sense is a great companion parrot. The person she picks will have a very loving relationship with a sweetheart of a girl. Interested in adoption? Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Bubba is a blue and gold macaw who was very loved by his owner until the owner recently passed away. Fortunately, Bubba has a big heart and has taken to a number of people since coming into rescue. He does seem to prefer the ladies, but is good with men also. However, while other birds do not bother him he has no interest in them and would rather spend time with a human of his choosing. Children and dogs are also OK with Bubba. Food is not a problem with this guy, he eats just about anything and particularly loves his fresh fruits and veggies. Bubba also has a good vocabulary that includes his name, 'hello', 'goodbye', 'good night' and ... (Read More)'peanut'. He'll even tell you he knows what a peanut is by saying the word when he sees one, although we steer clear of giving peanuts to parrots and instead offer healthy nuts such as almonds and pistachios. You may notice he is a bit plucked, but he loves a mist bath and with regular baths he already seems to be allowing the feathers to grow back. If you are ready to share your home with a big bundle of joy with blue and gold feathers, consider letting Bubba into your lives. He is waiting for a special new family to call his own! Animal ID: JakeBlue & Gold Macaw (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Jake is a very well behaved blue and gold macaw, in fact, he is the most polite bird I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He says 'thank you' before taking a treat, or diving into his pellets. He also makes sure to greet you with a 'hello' or a 'good morning', and says 'goodbye' or 'good night' when I walk out of his room. Jake loves hanging out on my shoulder and nuzzling his face into my cheek. He is also quite a goofy bird while taking a shower, or meeting new people. He really perks up when men are around, and so I think he enjoys the company of both men and women. He has picked up a few words and sounds while staying with his foster ... (Read More)mom, including 'hi' in my voice, and a 'meow' in the voice of his cat friends. Jake will also quickly tell the other birds to 'stop!' if they get too loud. He is not fussy at all, and will readily try any food offered to him. He also is very happy to tear up cardboard and wooden blocks. Jake is also towel trained, to make visits to the vet easier. He would be a great addition to anyone's home! Interested in adoption?     'CHICO & CALYPSO' Bonded Cockatiel Pair Chico and Calypso love each other very much, you can tell by the way Chico will play with Calypso's mohawk and Calypso will groom Chico from head to toe. They both prefer to be in their cage, as Calypso is not very good at flying. They do come out from time to time, and take midday strolls on the floor, cooing at each other like 'lovebirds' should. Animal ID: SnowyUmbrella Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Snowy is 36 years old and came into the rescue from a loving home of 25 years. His owners felt they could no longer provide the attention he needs and made the very difficult decision to have him re-homed. Snowy is a very sweet and loving Cockatoo, he loves to snuggle and give kisses. He is a little hesitant at first but with a little nudging will step up for just about anyone, once you pick him up he is a Cuddle Bug! He does get a little jealous of others when his chosen person is around though (he may bite if someone gets too close to him and his chosen person). Snowy makes the sweetest coos and occasionally will laugh with the family, he ... (Read More)is very vocal and will carry on his own funny little conversations.... in his very own language! Like most U2's, he will scream if he feels that he is not getting enough attention. Snowy does pluck his abdominal/chest area but his feathers do still grow back as the follicles are not destroyed. We have not seen him pluck since he came into the foster home, so hopefully they will grow back. He enjoys being outside sitting on the 'front porch swing'. Snowy loves his greens and currently eats Roudybush pellets with fresh fruits and vegetables with some nuts. Please remember that this species of bird can live to be 80 years or older and needs a lot of attention on a daily basis. Snowy will make a great addition to your family and still has many years left to devote to you!!! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: BanditBlue & Gold Macaw (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Bandit is a 20-25 year old Blue & Gold Macaw who came to us recently from an emergency intake of several birds out of the same home. While Bandit is obviously missing quite a few feathers (that most likely will not grow back), she has been given a clean bill of health by our vet. She does need more bathes and a better diet to eventually improve the condition of the remaining feathers, but we are working on that J She is loving her new pellet blend diet along with lots of fresh veggies, fruit and nuts. She especially loves bananas! While she is not yet easily handleable, she shows a keen interest in interaction and is showing a lot of ... (Read More)improvement in the short time she has been with us. She has a wonderfully clear speaking voice and can say 'Hello', 'Goodbye' and she quacks like a duck, she is very funny! The previous owner said she likes to bite you and then say 'ouch', but we have not witnessed this behavior while she has been with us. Bandit has huge, soulful eyes and we feel that with time, patience and an owner understanding of macaw behavior, she will become a great companion! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: KizmetHanh's Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Baby

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Kizmet is a four year old Hahn's Macaw. As you can see, when he first came to rescue, he had stripped feather shafts (he didn't pluck, but would actually strip the shaft of the feathers). You can see that he is no longer over grooming as much as he once was and with more time and a continued improved diet, his feather condition will also improve. He also enjoys taking showers with me now! Kizmet is a typical Hahn's, he can be a little pushy and is always trying to get into trouble (tried to eat my pencil, my keyboard, the mouse, the buttons on my shirt, my cup, my phone, the remote, etc... obviously he likes to chew on things and will need ... (Read More)A LOT of toys at all times and to have them changed out often for variety!) but he is a VERY nice bird! Like most macaws, he picks one person in the home he likes and does not want anyone else to handle him. Once he trusts you (he is slow to trust, so you have to be patient with him), he will step up for you and will try to steal food off of your plate! Once he chooses you, he is very trusting, you can do anything with him and he is comfortable with it. He will eat pellets and almonds, but so far doesn't seem interested in fruits and vegetables, unless you hand feed him, the spoiled little brat! Kizmet can talk a little; he says 'Hello' and makes various clicks that he likes you to repeat back to him. He also laughs A LOT! Kizmet does want A LOT of human companionship; he would like to be out of his cage and with you 24/7! Kizmet seemed a little scared of dogs and cats at first, but he has now gotten used to them and seems fine around them, other birds also do not bother Kizmet. Hahn's macaws are the smallest of the Mini macaws, measuring about 12-14 in length, but they have all the sass of the big boys! Hahn's can live to be 40-50 years old, so if you decide to adopt Kizmet, he would be a lifelong companion! (Less)

Erin is a ten year old female Umbrella Cockatoo. She was raised by her previous owner and until the owners health declined that was the only home she knew. She has settled into her foster family's home remarkably well and is very sweet to women. She is a little fearful of men though and can be protective of her foster mom. She is animated and chatty, but like all cockatoos she has her moments of being loud. However she is not a problem screamer. She is a first class cuddle bug with her chosen human and will certainly give her new family many years of love, laughter and joy. Interested in adoption? Please go to our website to fill out ... Animal ID: CharlieSulfur Crested Cockato

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Charlie is a sulfur crested cockatoo. He has always been called a 'he' but his sex is unknown as is his species. He is either a small medium sulfur crested or a hybrid of a lesser sulfur and a medium. Life hasn't always been easy for Charlie. In the first home we are aware of he was attacked by a pair of macaws. They destroyed his upper mandible. It has partially grown back, but his sinuses are still exposed and always will be. It hasn't inhibited him though from being active or from eating. He may not be able to crack a walnut, but he readily eats most anything else without assistance. His beak does however require trimming every four weeks ... (Read More)in order to keep from growing too long. If this isn't done it makes eating difficult and will cause it to become thin and brittle as well. Charlie's next home was with a well meaning person who took in more birds than she could handle. Compounded by the owner's poor health he was soon living in unhealthy conditions. The home was crowded and the air toxic. Now Charlie is living in foster care and having a blast. He loves to play with toys that he can stash in his boxes, and will actually unscrew toys hung from the top of the cage to add to his stash. He loves his foster mom. His foster dad? Well, not so much. Other birds? Again, not so much. Actually poor Charlie is rather anti social and seems to strongly bond to one person and one person only. He's extremely smart and is an escape artist. Charlie may not be perfect in appearance or behavior, but if you are looking for a challenge and are female he is worth the effort. To the one he chooses he is very loving and sweet. Interested in adoption? Animal ID: Mama GumpQuaker Parakeet (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Hi, my name is Mama Gump and I'm a Green Quaker Parrot. I'm very shy and a little cage aggressive (hey, I'm a quaker after all!), but I will take food from your hand. I am on a pelleted diet with fresh fruits and veggies and some nuts. I may look a little funny though because my wing was broken at one point in my life and I wasn't treated by a vet, but it doesn't cause me any pain and I am just fine! My name was Buddy, but after I laid eggs, my mom changed my name to Mama Gump! Won't you come meet me and then take me home? Interested in adoption? Animal ID: KikiBlue & Gold Macaw (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Well, Kiki is now 27 years old - she thinks bald is beautiful and continues to pluck. She has a great appetite and will eat just about anything you give her. We've found out that she's had a broken wing in the past and will never be able to fly. That doesn't stop her from walking around - she loves to be outside with you and will sit on the back of a chair or follow you around the yard. Kiki also loves to make sure the dogs get their daily dose of bird food - she'll fling her pellets out of the dish just to see the dogs scramble for them. 'Hello' in its many variations continues to be her favorite word although sometimes she'll say a ... (Read More)couple of other words. Kiki is very social but not clingy - she likes to be part of the team but is also fine by herself. She has laid several eggs in the past year so her foster mom covers her cage at night and makes sure that she gets almost equal amounts of light and dark. This has helped to stop the egg laying. Kiki is a great bird - not a screamer and steps up very easily. She doesn't really interact with the other birds and would probably be fine with another bird, but she is definitely the boss! Animal ID: ChampMollucan Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Champ is a real character and has never met a person he did not like. He has a wonderful disposition and is a real 'velcro' bird. Champ would hang out with you all day long if you let him, he just needs time to get used to you and any people need to go very slow with him. He did not come to us from an ideal situation and he has some insecurities because of that. He is however a typical Cockatoo and can be LOUD when he is feeling ignored, but for the most part, he is a fairly quiet bird, for a cockatoo anyway! As you may have noticed, Champ does not have tail feathers and he will not grow any (we call him the buttless wonder!). He had a wound ... (Read More)in that area which has long since healed but destroyed all follicles, however, all the plumbing works just fine! Champ has been converted to a healthy diet of pellets, fresh vegetables and fruit. He enjoys nuts as treats. He will try anything you offer. He is especially fond of sweet potatoes. Champ WILL NOT do well in a home with other cockatoos, he does like being around other birds, but NOT other cockatoos. He also does not like to be around other birds that are very loud. He is fine with other animals though, such as dogs. He is fine with men or women, but he does prefer men. Champ is under the age of 10 (best guess) and although he may not be the prettiest bird, he sure does have character and will make a great companion for the right family! Everyone who meets Champ falls in love with his sweet personality. Interested in adoption? PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in Florida
Birds can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.

lnteresting Bird Trivia Low-Cost Florida Spay & Neuter Clinics
Parrots mimic humans but do not mimic any other kind of animal in the wild. Most captive birds are unable to find a permanent home and experience some kind of abuse or neglect in their lifetimes. The use of nonstick cookware can be extremely toxic to parrots living in the home. Parrots can die from exposure to normal household substances such as bleach fumes, perfumes, and anything sprayed from an aerosol can. Exotic birds can live to be over 60 years old.
