Animal ID: FiddleCockatiel (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Fiddle is a fun little girl, she tweets & whistles happily when we turn on music that she likes, she nibbles, but has never bit hard, and she will step up on a child's arm no problem. She has been a pleasure to work with as she is affectionate with both dogs and (accepting) cats. We give her quite a bit of freedom, and she is very appreciative. She will tweet when you start cooking, she always gets happy when Mom starts cooking... She is being Fostered in Tennessee, and being advertised in Florida for advertising purposes only. If a match is made a volunteer will deliver to your home within 2 weeks of a finalized adoption. The Adoption Fee ... (Read More)is $100. (Less)

Animal ID: KiwiCockatiel (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi, I'm Kiwi. I am an approximately 17 yr old male cockatiel. Don't worry about my age because the doctor just gave me a clean bill of health. My mommy went to Heaven and my daddy thought I deserved more attention than what he could give, so the awesome folks at Florida Parrot Rescue took me in and gave me a foster family. I am a very friendly gentleman. I will step up readily and offer my neck for scritches. I love to sing and tell you what a 'pretty bird' I am. I can be stubborn when it comes to my palette, though. I am very fond of the seed mix and spray millet I've always eaten but my foster family keeps putting other funny things in ... (Read More)my bowl like chop and pellets. I'll sample them sometimes but I'm not yet convinced they're for me. What *is* for me is a forever home! I just need someone with room enough in their heart for a sweet little man like me. Could you be that special someone? I hope you'll come visit me soon so we can fall in love! (Less)

Animal ID: NasdaqBlue and Gold Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi Everyone!! My name is Nasdaq and I am a handsome Blue and Gold Macaw. My foster family is not exactly sure whether I'm a boy or girl, so they are calling me 'he'. I, of course, know, but I'm not going to share :) I am approximately 20 years old and since Macaws normally live for a long time, that makes me just a spring chicken..or perhaps a spring macaw? The vet gave me a clean bill of health, except that I'm a bit overweight. I am a GREAT eater and I will try just about everything my foster family offers me. Of course, they only offer me healthy, parrot friendly food. I love whole almonds in the shell, grapes (only if they are cut in ... (Read More)half),all kinds of dried fruit and pellets. Veggies really aren't to my liking but my foster mommy keeps offering them to me, hoping that soon she will find one I like. Veggies are an important part of my diet and I know I need to eat them. I am very friendly and I will step up for anyone, even those little mini humans that they refer to as 'kids'. I can also say 'hi', 'hello', bark like a dog and make cute little kissing noises. I love to hang out on the shower stall while my foster mommy is getting ready for work. Wood and cardboard are where it's at for me and I love love love to chew on both. I'm a little uncomfortable with head scritches but my foster family is confident that I will learn to love those too. I am a very social bird and I love to be where the action is but I will let you know when I am ready to go back to my cage or go night night. I AM a Macaw, which means I do scream a little at night or when I feel I deserve more attention than I'm getting. This makes me unsuitable for apartment or condo living, so please have a single family home if you are interested in adopting me. I know I will make someone a wonderful forever companion. Please come meet me and see for yourself! I can't wait to meet you! (Less)

Animal ID: PollyQuaker Parakeet

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hello! My name is Polly and I am a 4 year old Quaker Parrot. I probably *do* want a cracker, what Quaker wouldn't? Do you love the Disney channel?? I DO! I also like to dance to lively music. In my quieter moments, I love to sit on the shoulders of my foster family and give them lots of kisses. My foster mommy says I am VERY sweet and tame and make an excellent house guest but I really want to find my forever home. The nice vet checked me out and told my foster mom to please start weaning me off my unhealthy diet of seeds and onto one of pellets, veggies and fruit. We are working on that now. All my latest vet results came out good and I ... (Read More)am ready to be a permanent member of your flock. (more than ready, I can't wait!) Won't you please consider coming to meet me? Animal ID: PoppyBudgie (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! My name is Poppy and I am a most handsome blue budgie. Some people know us as parakeets, but our species name is actually budgerigar. Try saying *that* with a beakfull of pellets! No wonder we are called budgies. My foster mom says I am very sweet and am adjusting well to my temporary home. I really want to find my forever home, though. Even though a pellet diet is much better for me than seeds, everyone knows we don't always eat what is good for us! My foster mom is currently mixing the seed with pellets, in the hopes that soon I will like pellets as much as seed. I also eat fresh greens and fresh sprouts, which are most yummy!!!! Do ... Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hello! My name is Jackie Blue and I am a gorgeous, blue Quaker parrot. In my previous home, I did not get a lot of attention but my foster family is working with me on this and showing me that being the center of attention is exactly where I want to be. I am being taught that it's fun to meet new people, especially if they give me yummies!!! Oh, and by the way, I LOVE head scritches. I am trying this new stuff called pellets and I actually like it. I also need fresh veggies, fruit and whole grains in my diet. Come to think of it, healthy nuts, like almonds, are good too. I make some cute noises like barking and little clicks. It's been ... Rescue Me ID: 16-01-16-00213Moluccan Cockatoo

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

We got Cody from some people that took him in after his owner was in a fatal car wreck or that is what we were told. They could not handle him. We picked him up cage and all. After numerous hours of work and determination and a few bites I was able to pick him up with a perch. He is still very skittish. As all moluccans he can yell quite loudly. He needs someone who has the time to work with him. He comes with his cage. I also have an African Grey who he loves to pester when he is out of his cage.

Animal ID: FruitcaiqueCaique

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! My name is Fruitcaique! Can you guess what kind of parrot I am? Wait for it........................... Yes! Good guess, I am a black headed Caique, pronounced 'Ki-eek' although most people call me a 'cake', hence my name. I say, 'call me anything but late for dinner' and boy do I mean it. I love love love to eat!!!! I am on a healthy diet of Roudybush Maintenance Pellets (small), chop, fresh fruits and veggies, birdie bread and anything else that is healthy for parrots. I am not a picky eater! I really enjoy whole almonds in the shell(you have to open the shell a little for me) and little pieces of shelled walnuts as a special treat. I ... (Read More)came into Rescue because my mommy was very ill and my parronts couldn't take care of me anymore. I am approximately 5 yrs old and even though everyone refers to me as a girl, it's not really official. Silly humans. *I* know what I am, even if no one else does! I love men! Women...not so much. What can I say? My foster mommy is teaching me that I can be friends with women, too, but at this particular time, it would be best if I get adopted by a man (or men). When I see a man, I wolf whistle and call out to him for some attention. I will readily step up, bury my face into the sleeve of his shirt and make little kissy noises. I talk too! I can say 'Hi Mommy', 'pretty bird', 'Fruitcaique', 'love you', and a bunch of other things that my foster mommy doesnt understand just yet. We have also started this new game where I touch this skinny stick-thing (target) with my beak and she gives me a treat. What a fun game! I love to get treats! She thinks I'm so cute and can be quite the sweetie when I want to be. Won't you come see for yourself? I would love to find my forever home, maybe with you? Animal ID: Baby and PeanutQuaker Parakeet

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hello there! Our names are Baby and Peanut, and we are a bonded pair of Quaker Parrots! We must be adopted together. We are both pretty quiet, as parrots go. I'm Baby and I have lots of things that I say, while my friend Peanut doesn't talk. 'Hi Baby', 'Hello Baby', 'Want some food?', 'Quaker', 'Thank you', 'Come on', and 'Come here' are just a few of the things I can say. My foster mom says she is sure I can say a lot more than that! We are both very active, and inquisitive, and we like to stick together unless it is time to eat - then it is every bird for himself! We are both very protective of each other and our home, so we do ... (Read More)better with people outside our cage. I don't like to step up at all, but Peanut will, if I'm not around. I like to get my head scratched but only if Peanut is not around. We are a bit nippy right now, but our foster Mom is working with us on our trust issues and that eventually, we won't mind hands and will step up easily. Right now, we prefer a house without children or other pets, but my foster mom says this may change, too. I think she has a lot of plans for us! We love our fresh vegetables (mom calls it chop), and we love seeds for treats and training (remember that seeds are for this purpose only, and no sunflower seeds!). We are trying Zupreem Fruit blend and we like the yellow banana ones a lot! We love apples, and grapes, and we are trying new foods every week. We also love to get misted to keep our feathers clean. We will be sure to put on our best behavior when you come to meet us, which we hope will be very soon. In the meantime, maybe you can send us some gifts from our wish list at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2X16OXCGD04MP/ref=cm_wl_list_o_33? All gifts are very appreciated, thank you!! Animal ID: MorganGoffins-Lesser Mix

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! My name is Morgan and I am a 5 year old Goffers Cockatoo. I'm a Hybrid between a Goffins and a Lessor Cockatoo. I have a very sweet look and a large beautiful yellow crest. My Foster Mommy tells me I'm so handsome all the time. I lived with the same Mommy and Daddy all my life since I was 3 months old. I really miss them! I never had any pets or other birds or kids till I moved in with my Foster mom and Dad. I like them, but I think I would prefer to be the only child in the house. I really do not like men and I would love having a woman for my new companion. My vet seems to think I'm a boy even though I was thought to be a girl. I ... (Read More)only get loud if you leave and I miss you - after all, I am a cockatoo! I can say night night, ready for bed, I love you mommy, good bye, go away, hi, and come over here. I am a bit nervous and if I'm not kept busy, I may pull my feathers out, so I have this stringing bead habit. I love my beads and my relaxation music, and I love being out of my cage. It's so relaxing to play with my beads, but I will need you to string them up for me - don't worry, my foster Mommy will show you how. I also love getting my head scritched. I love my almonds, oatmeal, fresh fruits, sugar snap peas, and pellets. Unfortunately, I have this seed habit, but it's really not good for me so we are having less and less each day. You also need to know that I am a bit of an escape artist, so you really have to watch me! I know it will take time to know you, but I really hope that you will come and meet me soon. Animal ID: PonchoYellow Naped Amazon

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hello! My name is Poncho and I am a 30 year old Yellow Nape Amazon. It was believed I was a pretty testy bird, but it turned out I just had a lot of medical issues that needed to be treated. I came into rescue in a round, very small, rusted cage. I also had several busted air sacs, one over my eye, in which I am now blind from an old injury. My nails were also so long and curled under that I could barely perch and would fall often. I also could not open and close one of my wings properly. I had been on a diet of peanuts and seeds with no outside time for sunlight for many, many years. Florida Parrot Rescue got me straight to the ... (Read More)veterinarian and I had a full physical with bloodwork and x-rays. It turns out that I have arthritis in my spine and in my right foot from being in too small of a cage with no exercise, which is also why I hold one of my wings funny. They made sure my nails were clipped, but my wings can't be clipped due to my arthritis. My air sacs were also drained, but those issues will be permanent and draining will need to be done from time to time. In addition, I will probably also be on pain medication for the rest of my life, so I am a special needs bird - but Florida Parrot Rescue says I am worth it and that they will find the right person for me who understands this! I also have very scaly, dry feet and terrible feather condition from no sunlight exposure for so long, so my foster Mom is going to make sure that I now get switched to a brand new diet with lots of time outside for sun (in a safe way, of course!). I LOVE chop, kale, bananas, and sweet potatoes - those are my favorites so far! And I am also getting used to Harrisons pellets. I am also starting to learn how to play with toys and it turns out that I have a very large vocabulary! I really hope that someone comes to meet me very soon and decides to make me a permanent part of their loving family! In the meantime, I could really use a few things that would make me comfortable, like a new cage with a playstand, some soft perches for my feet, and some new toys and treats. Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hello! My name is Banjo and I am a 13 year old Quaker Parrot. I came into Florida Parrot Rescue pretty plucked and with an obvious issue with one of my wings. I also have a very bad skin condition and poor feather condition due to lack of sunlight over many, many years. In addition, I was on a poor diet of peanuts and seeds. Florida Parrot Rescue took me straight to the veterinarian for a full physical with bloodwork and x-rays. It turns out I have an old fracture in my wing, so I am not allowed to have my wings clipped, but I am able to get around just fine. I just have a specialized cage set up now where my perches, bowls, and toys are ... (Read More)kept a bit lower in my cage. My nails were trimmed and now my Foster Mom is working hard to get me converted to a better diet and outside (in a safe way!) for plenty of sunshine to improve my skin and feather issues. So far I like chop and we are working on pellets, but I am now waiting for someone to see my picture and come meet me and fall in love! Animal ID: Baybe & PeachesGoffin's & Moluccan (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Baybee and my sister is Peaches. We are both cockatoos of course, but I am a Goffins and my sister is a Moluccan. We've been together for 14 years and we are bonded so we have to be adopted together. Right now, we live in two separate cages side by side but we love to be out together. It's all good though because we are both as sweet as we can be! We love to play together and we both love a healthy diet of fresh pellets, vegetables, some fruit, and healthy nuts (remember, no peanuts for parrots!). Peaches loves oranges, so she needs a little slice each day or she will let you know you did something wrong! Just not too ... (Read More)much orange as they are acidic and that is not good in too much quantity for most parrots. We are spoiled and like most cockatoos, we can be vocal if we feel like we are being ignored. When we get going it's quite funny, we make our foster family laugh and laugh! Our favorite thing is to cuddle, just be careful you don't over-do it as cockatoos are very easy to stimulate the wrong way, so please stick to scritching our necks and not other areas that may over stimulate. As you can see, we do over-tend to our feathers a bit, but we are working on trying to stop that. Peaches says that if you give us a forever home, just be prepared to get receive of love and entertainment! Peaches also thinks I should tell you while she's not scared of much, I am a bit scared of other animals like dogs, so we may do better in a home without other species of animals. We both LOVE people though and I like jumping from person to person - it's really fun. Peaches gives long, great hugs and she loves kids. I like kids too, but I prefer the bigger people! We both actually prefer men but we will go to anyone. We also love going outside with our foster mommy in the mornings in the screened patio to get sun. We have also both recently visited the veterinarian and we are healthy, so as long as we can stay together we will be just fine. Our mommy says we are so funny together and that we will make great family companions for the right home willing to spend the time and effort we need to be happy - just remember that we both can live just as long as you and it is important to keep us on balanced, healthy diets with lots of toys supplied for stimulation as cockatoos are very intelligent animals. We can't wait to meet you and we hope you come see us real soon! Toodles! Baybee and Peaches (Less)

Hello! My name is Fuzzy and I arrived at Florida Parrot Rescue by plane all the way from North Carolina. I am 20 years old and I am a Catalina Macaw. I was once diagnosed with Aspergillosis, but thanks to my caring family and a wonderful veterinarian, I overcame that nasty sickness. I am currently on a special diet of Harrison's lifetime pellets with lots of fresh veggies and some fresh fruits. As you can see, I have over-groomed my feathers but they are starting to fill in now. My foster dad is teaching me that human companionship can be fun and entertaining. I can also talk! I speak lots of words very clearly but I am shy about it. ... (Read More)I like to play games and I also like to drum on my perch or cage while I wait for you to repeat the sound on another object. Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi!! My name is Ms. Harold and I am an 8 year old Female Severe Macaw. I am a good bird who strongly prefers men. My forever home must be in a household that does not contain women. I am a great talker and my foster parents are still finding out new things I say every day. I eat a variety of food well but my foster Dad is working on converting me to a healthy diet of pellets, vegetables and fruits and by the way, I LOVE nuts as treats - only healthy nuts though like pistachios and almonds - no peanuts! I also really enjoy meal time with my human. Since I am a macaw, I can be very loud when I want to be but for the most part I am quiet ... (Read More)(for a bird anyway)! Animal ID: CharlieSulfur Crested Cockato

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi Everyone! My name is Charlie and I am quite the handsome Sulfur Crested Cockatoo. I am approximately 15 years old which means I am still a youngster! I am also smaller than a Moluccan or Umbrella Cockatoo which makes me just the perfect size! I bet you noticed my beak looks a little different. I was attacked by a Macaw in a previous home and part of the top of my beak is missing. No worries, though, I am in no pain and I'm able to eat just fine! It has been determined by the avian specialists that no beak reconstruction is needed, the beak is just shaped a little funny is all. I like to think of it as distinctive! My foster mommy says ... (Read More)I am a wonderful bird to have in the home! Most of the time I will step up onto your hand but when I'm feeling a little stubborn, I will step up onto a stick (perch) as well. I love head scritches but when I've had enough I will politely push your hand away with my beak, please respect my body language :) I am a good eater! I am on a healthy diet of pellets mixed with Higgens Safflower Gold. I like mixed veggies with bits of sliced almonds and chopped walnuts mixed in and will eat that daily. My foster mommy keeps trying to get me to eat this stuff called 'chop' but I'm not really liking it. Still, she keeps trying. Maybe one day I will just surprise her and eat it all gone! The piece of fruit that YOU are eating tastes way better than the one you just gave me, so I only like fruit if I can eat yours. I am a pretty happy fella! I am fully feathered with no history of plucking. I do need a female caregiver and home with no other pets, including no other birds. I like to be out of my cage and need someone who can give me a lot of out of cage time. I have been in Rescue for over a year so my adoption fee has been discounted. Won't you come meet me? I just know that my forever home is out there, maybe it's with you? If you would like to buy me a gift from my amazon wish list, I would be so thankful! http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1ELJUCSW9DNQ8/ref=cm_wl_list_o_153?reveal=purchased&view=null Interested in adoption? PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in Florida
Birds can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.
