Rescue Me ID: 16-04-29-00288Umbrella Cockatoo (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Sweet Umbrella Cockatoo. Snowball hatched on May 5th, 2000. She is going to be 16 very soon! Loves ladies, a few guys, but prefers a female human who will give her lots of snuggles under her blankie. She has a large cage with plexiglass feeder and toys. Her diet is pellets, a few seeds, fruit and veggies, plus a few human treats. She loves buttered toast occasionally. Our living situation has changed and she is not a happy girl. Please let me know if you want more info. This parrot is an excellent companion bird. She deserves better than I can offer right now.

Animal ID: SydneyUmbrella Cockatoo

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi Everyone! My name is Sydney, nice to meet you! I am a 13 yr old Umbrella Cockatoo. My former mommy loved me very much but due to health issues, she couldn't take care of me any longer. She hopes that allowing FPR to find me a new home will give me a chance to have the love and attention I deserve for the rest of my fairly long life :) I am always happy, excited and ready to play. I look forward to that time of the day when my foster dad gets home. He always lets me out of my cage as soon as he walks in the door. I get so excited! I walk all over my cage and I talk to him. I can say 'Pretty Girl' and 'please'. Sometimes I will step up, ... (Read More)but my foster dad calls it 'a work in progress', whatever that means. I am on a basic diet of Zupreem pellets, fresh fruits and nutriberries. That 'V' word (veggies) seems to be missing from my diet, but I know my foster dad will keep trying till he finds some I will eat. I used to chew on my feathers but my foster dad has been working with me on that and now they are growing back. We are both really excited about that! I like to take daily showers and that helps my feathers a lot. I seem to get along well with the other birds in my foster home and the dogs. Please remember, though, to never leave me and your 4 footed, furry friend out together unsupervised, no matter how well we *seem* to get along. I would make a good companion and friend for someone living in a single family home. Please remember, I AM a cockatoo and I can be loud, as can all cockatoos, it's who we are. I am not suited to apartment or condo living for that reason and can't be placed with a family that lives in either. I know my forever home is out there. Is it with you? Please come meet me and let's find out! While you are waiting to meet me, would you like to send me a gift from my wish list? I would sure appreciate it. Here is the link: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2X6MFAJX7LMOU/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Thanks for stopping by. Hope to meet you soon! Clucks and Kisses, Sydney (Less)

Animal ID: ChimiGreen Cheek Conure

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi there all you wonderful people! My name is Chimi and I am a cinnamon colored Green Cheek Conure. The nice birdie doctor said she thought I was between 2 and 5 years old. I got a perfect report on my intake checkup, except that I'm a little underweight. That suits me just fine, cause I love to eat! My former parronts took very good care of me and loved me very much but due to changing life circumstances, felt I'd be happier in a new home, where I could receive the love and attention that I deserve. Speaking of eating, I am on a very healthy diet of Harrison's Lifetime Maintenance Pellets Fine, chop (check out the FPR website for some ... (Read More)great chop recipes), fresh fruits, healthy nuts...yep, you guessed it, I love to eat and I'm not picky. Some of my favorite fruits are apples and grapes. My foster mommy uses almond slivers as my special training treat that she feeds me from her fingers. When she walks into the room I RUN out of my cage and onto my playstand, hoping she is going to let me step up onto her hand and get a treat. I love people! It takes a few days (maybe less if you feed me almonds) for me to warm up to you, then I will step up onto your hand readily. I like to be in your company and will call out to you if you leave me alone. My calls are not loud, though, and I would do fine in an apartment or condo. I also like to hang from the top of my cage by one foot, just to get your attention and make you laugh! If you'd allow it, I'd hang out on your shoulder and ride around with you all day long. I'm so proud of myself, too. I am learning to talk! I say a lot of things that my foster mommy can't really understand yet, but can pick out bits and pieces of. Last night, my foster mom and my foster dad heard me say 'What are you doing?' and they both recognized it at the same time. I've also been heard to say 'Love you' with little kissy noises at the end, 'Hi Chimi', 'Good night' and a bunch of other phrases that I still need to work on a bit. I would do really well in a home where there was a lot of activity, and I was in the middle of it. (I would need a quiet area to sleep at night). If you have older children that are responsible enough to help with my care and treat me with respect, even better! Please come meet me and let's see if we can fall in love! In the meantime, would you consider sending me a gift from my Amazon Wish List? Here is the link: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1QYJZ43XW5CC6/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Helloooo out there! My name is Taz! I am a dashing, debonair male eclectus. The vet seems to think I'm around 10 yrs old, just a spring chicken, so to speak! My foster mom tells me all the time that I'm a very good bird. I love to be with people so much, I even give kisses! I love to petted and cuddled too. I do step up and I think I like to sit on shoulders but my wise foster mom has not let me do that yet. Best of all, I will love to be with you if you are male or female! I love everybody! :) I am on a healthy basic diet of pellets and I sure do love my chop. I hear everyone talking about those things called 'All-munsss' and some other ... Animal ID: Mickey and SylviaLovebirds

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! My name is Mickey and the little sweetheart standing behind me in the picture is Sylvia. We are two gorgeous lovebirds of an unknown age. We are both kinda shy but I am more outgoing than Sylvia. We really haven't been handled much and we don't like to be touched yet, but we sure love to sing! We start singing for our foster mom as soon as she gets up in the morning. We also love to look out the window and sing to the birdies outside. We are a little nervous of coming out of our cage right now, but we like it when our foster mom sits on the floor near our cage, with the cage door closed. and just chats to us about whatever she can ... (Read More)think of. We have a tent and a swing in our cage which we love, and when the cage door is open, we hang out in the tent. We seem to be ok around our foster family's dog, but please remember to always supervise any interaction between us and our furry buddies. We are depending on you to keep us safe :) We *will* come out of our tent with the cage door open for nutriberries!! We love those! Yummy!!! Our foster mom gives them to us as a snack. We also eat premium egg food and vitaseed. We are two very sweet lovebirds that are bonded and must be adopted together. We like human attention and with a lot of love and patience we can probably be taught to enjoy physical contact, maybe even step up or sit on your shoulder. We will need a family who is willing to spend some time with us to make this happen. Or, just appreciate how pretty we look and how beautiful we sound! Does this sound like your family? Animal ID: NickBlue and Gold Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Hello Everyone! My name is Nick and I am a super handsome Blue and Gold Macaw. I am only 9 years old which makes me quite young so please be prepared to have me as your companion for a really long time! My daddy died suddenly and I've been a little quiet since I came into Rescue, but I am now mumbling again and my foster mom is pretty sure I'll be talking again soon. I have a brand new, beautiful cage and it makes me feel very safe and secure which makes me more confident and happy. I do have to admit that I am NOT a morning bird, and since I'm not allowed to have coffee like you humans, you will have to learn when I want to be left alone ... (Read More)or I would like some attention. I like head scritches and I like to handled and touched after I get to know you. I seem to like men and women about the same and I even get along with my foster family's small, 4 legged barking buddy. Please though, you should never leave me out of my cage and unsupervised with another 4 legged buddy, I am depending on you to keep me safe! I used to have a small plucking problem but now my new feathers are growing in and I look quite handsome, if I do say so myself. I like you to tell me that too, as often as you can :) My favorite foods are nutri-berries, watermelon, grapes, and almonds. My foster mom is trying to get me to eat these things called vegetables but so far I can't really say I like them. Oh well, we will keep trying. Wouldn't you like to come meet me and see for yourself how handsome I am? I would love to see if I could go home with you! Animal ID: Peaches & BlueberryLovebirds

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Very High Energy

Hi Everyone!!! My name is Blueberry (call me Blue for short)and my friend is Peaches (Peachie for short). We are a bonded pair of lovebirds taken in from the emergency intake of 36 birds, awhile back, and must be adopted together. We, and all the others, were so grateful for all the donations and support we received from you! Thank you again for that! We were sort of afraid of people at first but our foster mommy says we have come a long way in learning to trust again. We are VERY energetic and love, love, love to roam around the house, so much so, that we really can't go to a home that has any other pets, or even small children, as it ... (Read More)would not be safe for us. We sometimes chew things when we explore so we really need to be supervised. Neither of us step up. My foster mommy says that I show an interest in what she is doing, Peachie..not so much. We do like to cuddle with each other at night but during the day we will separate to explore. Of course, because we are bonded, we do call out to each other when we can't see where the other has gone. We are on a diet of seed/pellet mix, love millet and have learned to like fruits, vegetables and chop. We are looking for our forever home with a patient and understanding parront that will allow us to continue to have our freedom outside of our cage. Could that be you? Please come meet us and see how adorable we are! Would you like to send us a gift from our Amazon Wish List?     These pair of cockatiels are a great pair. The yellow lutino, Wanda, is very affectionate. Wanda loves getting her head scratched and is quiet in nature. Fred is very friendly as well. Animal ID: TimmyCockatiel (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! My name is Timmy and I am 22 yr young cockatiel. Don't let my age fool you, though, I am quite feisty and vocal. I love to chirp, whistle and chatter to anyone and anything that will listen to me. I especially love to sit by the window and look out into the yard, you never know what you might see out there! I'm a happy guy and I like to greet the mornings with a cheerful whistle that will put a smile on your face. My foster mom thinks I might be trying to say 'how you doing?' or 'what are you doing?' and she thinks it's so cute when I start talking to the tags on the towels and the little toy I have in my cage. My foster family is ... (Read More)currently transitioning me to a pellet diet and I already love almonds and nutriberries. Matter of fact, I will eat those tasty yummies right off your hand! I am a little timid at first, but I will warm up to you eventually and step up on your hand or arm. Sometimes I will even fly to your shoulder and let you walk around the house with me riding up there. FPR believes that it is dangerous to keep a companion bird flighted and strongly advises parronts to keep their FID's (feathered kid's) wings clipped, however, in my case, because I've been fully flighted all my life and I use my wings to help me balance when I get winded, the vet recommends I stay flighted. Wouldn't you like to see how cute I am for yourself? Maybe you'd like to take me home with you and give me the forever home that I'm looking for? Please come meet me and let's find out! Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hello, My name is Scarlett. I am a female Eclectus. I am around 8-10 years old. I can be handled but I do bite. My foster mom is working with me on perching when I get out of the cage. I am getting better every day. I will bite by surprise sometimes! So I know this is something I have to learn not to do. So far I have not said any words but I do watch everything around so my foster mom just thinks I'm getting more comfortable before I speak. I do make honking noises and I make the tongue clicking noise. I love all kinds of fruits and veggies. I know I would be a really great pet with the right person. I need a ... Animal ID: Baby and PeanutQuaker Parakeet

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hello there! Our names are Baby and Peanut, and we are a bonded pair of Quaker Parrots! We must be adopted together. We are both pretty quiet, as parrots go. I'm Baby and I have lots of things that I say, while my friend Peanut doesn't talk. 'Hi Baby', 'Hello Baby', 'Want some food?', 'Quaker', 'Thank you', 'Come on', and 'Come here' are just a few of the things I can say. My foster mom says she is sure I can say a lot more than that! We are both very active, and inquisitive, and we like to stick together unless it is time to eat - then it is every bird for himself! We are both very protective of each other and our home, so we do ... (Read More)better with people outside our cage. I don't like to step up at all, but Peanut will, if I'm not around. I like to get my head scratched but only if Peanut is not around. We are a bit nippy right now, but our foster Mom is working with us on our trust issues and that eventually, we won't mind hands and will step up easily. Right now, we prefer a house without children or other pets, but my foster mom says this may change, too. I think she has a lot of plans for us! We love our fresh vegetables (mom calls it chop), and we love seeds for treats and training (remember that seeds are for this purpose only, and no sunflower seeds!). We are trying Zupreem Fruit blend and we like the yellow banana ones a lot! We love apples, and grapes, and we are trying new foods every week. We also love to get misted to keep our feathers clean. Animal ID: RedRed Lored Amazon (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Senior

Hello! My name is Red and I am a Red Lored Amazon. I am an elderly bird, about 40-50 years old, and my foster Mom says I think of myself as the matriarch of the flock. My story is a bit sad, but it has gotten much happier. I was previously thrown out in the street, but thankfully, a Good Samaritan rescued me after finding me in a dumpster and brought me to Florida Parrot Rescue! I had several medical issues upon coming into rescue. I was very thin, had numerous vitamin deficiencies, and a really bad scissor beak that needed a lot of work in order for me to be able to eat properly. It was also obvious that I had previously suffered from ... (Read More)several infections and drainage in the past around my beak. I also have several fatty tumors on my body. In addition, it was found that I had an untreated broken wing, which has left me unable to fly, as you can see from the funny way my feathers stick out. None of these issues threaten my happiness or well-being though, I am quite the cheerful little girl and ready to find a forever home. I do have some arthritis and because of this I spend most of my time on my brand new play top stand on my cage. I also sleep up here as well, it is just more comfortable for me this way. I LOVE my toys, especially the wicker balls that I play with on the top of my cage. I also like to sing, my foster Mom says that I sound like an opera star, plus I do a wolf whistle. I am also enjoying some great food in my foster home. I love to eat pellets, fresh vegetables, fruits, and healthy nuts. I LOVE blueberries. My beak does still grow funny, so I need to see the vet about every 6 weeks for a beak trim. I really hope that despite my specialized care, there will be someone out there who will love me and want me for the rest of my days. Maybe that will be you? I hope you come meet me very soon, but in the meantime, maybe you would like to send me a gift?     Hello there, my name is Oscar and I am a beautiful 18 year old Greenwing macaw.. I am a bird that bonds strongly to one person (preferably a women). What can I say I'm just a one women kinda guy. Our initial meeting I might be scared of you but once you take me home I will be butter in your arms! I can be loud, but that's typical for a bird my size especially when you leave my sight. Animal ID: ZeusGreenwing Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hello! Zeus here - I'm a Greenwing Macaw about 15 years of age and I am missing my pants. I'm not too sure how long they've been gone, but hey - I'm so handsome I don't really need them. I was surrendered to Florida Parrot Rescue because my owners didn't have time for me and there were lots of other birds in the house. I liked to let them know I was in charge but no one really appreciated that. My owners told my foster mom that I didn't really like toys and didn't chew on them. I had a cage with two large bells and three perches in it when I came into rescue. Now that I'm in a nice, new LARGE cage with TOYS, I'm very happy. I can still ... (Read More)be noisy, but I love to chew all my wooden toys and even have a toy that I can preen. I've pretty much stopped plucking but I'm afraid I'm always going to be missing my pants. I'm good around dogs - in fact, I've trained them to wait from food droppings. My foster sister Lucy is always hovering - ever hopeful. I live with two other birds right now and don't try to direct their activities - probably because I'm the biggest and best bird. I have a very healthy appetite and am currently on a diet of pellets, fresh vegetables, and some fresh fruit. I also just love walnuts and brazil nuts. My foster mom makes me work for those by hiding them in foraging toys. I've been to the vet and am very healthy, other than my missing pants. I'm getting used to my foster home and am getting used to having a bath in the shower. I feel really good and look awesome when I'm clean. My foster mom is working on getting me used to an avian flight suit, so we'll see how that goes. I really need a loving home where I will be cherished and loved. Maybe you will come meet me soon so we can see if we get along? I can't wait to meet you! (Less)

Animal ID: PeanutWhite Capped Pionus

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello there! My name is Peanut. I am a gorgeous White Capped Pionus and I am about 7-8 years old. I love to eat, but I am very picky. My foster family is trying to convert me from seeds onto a healthy diet of pellets, fresh vegetables, fruits, and healthy nuts. Let's just say - I am not a fan yet, but I will keep trying. I am also unsure of showers right now, but maybe with time, I will grow to love them. I do LOVE LOVE LOVE this whole toy thing! My favorite toy (which my foster Mom bought 5 of) I have destroyed so quickly that I am already out, so I need more! Shredding toys are my favorite, for sure! I like to come out of my cage and hang ... (Read More)out on the top of the door, but sometimes I decide to glide down and do a walk about. I don't mind being in a home with other animals, but I don't need to be as I tend to ignore everyone else right now, just remember that you need to keep me safe around other species of animals, especially while I am out on walkabout. It is safest to keep everyone out of the same room as me when I am exercising my little legs by walking! I am a bit timid of people - I take a while to get used to you and I do not know how to step up. I am sometimes so scared that I will flip over and scream and growl at you when approached and will sometimes bite. I do need work on handling in this way, but I really hope that maybe there is someone out there who might love me enough, and be patient enough, to adopt me and work with me on these challenges. I only like men though, they are the only people I seem drawn to at all, I will come closer to listen to them talk if they are quiet and patient, but I still do not like to be touched. In the meantime, if you want to send me a gift from my wishlist, you can go to: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/23NDB85PLSF0V/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_o? My favorite toy is at the very top of that list. Thank you, and I can't wait to meet you! (Less)

Animal ID: MillieGoffins Cockatoo

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello Everybody! My name is Millie and my new foster parronts said I am a gorgeous Goffins Cockatoo. I agree! I love my new foster Dad. I hang out on his shoulder a lot and like to cuddle with him. I also love love LOVE head scratches! I am ok with my foster Mom, but a bit skittish, I just need some time to get used to her. I am fine with the dogs in the house also, just remember to be careful with parrots being around other animals, safety first! I have a good vocabulary such as 'where you at?' but have only said 'hello' so far. I don't want my fosters to fall in love with me too quickly, lol! I prefer to be out of my cage as much as ... (Read More)possible and am also happy hanging out on top of it. I only like to go to bed when it is quiet in the house after everyone has gone to bed, otherwise I will squawk a bit to let you know I would rather hang out with you. Oh, I forgot to tell you that I was a major plucker a few years ago and did some permanent damage to my wing feathers that will probably not grow back. My body is covered with this white fluffy stuff and I might be able to grow back some beautiful feathers some day, once I am comfortable in a forever home. Look at my picture though, I am beautiful anyway! I also need time to get used to new surroundings, so I just need someone who is going to be patient with me and who will love me just the way I am. Would you like to meet me? I would like to meet you! I hope we can arrange a meeting very soon.     Hello! My name is Juno and I am a Indian Ringneck Parakeet. I am a fairly quiet bird, I will make some noises mid-afternoon, but am quiet most of the day. I sleep well and do not make any noises after I am put to bed. I do like showers and I love to be sprayed. However, I do not know how to step up and will bite if you try to touch me, but with some patience and love, I am sure that I will eventually come around. My foster Mom says I eat very well. I eat healthy pellets, fresh vegetables, some fruits, and healthy nuts. I am really looking forward to being adopted by someone who knows that it will take some work to gain my trust. Maybe ... Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

I am Cindy, and I am a mighty Triton cockatoo - full of energy, full of curiosity, and full of love. I have been with my foster mom for 3 years now, and a lot has changed from my early days with her. I love my space that I got from Florida Parrot Rescue - I don't have to share it with anyone, and it is full of interesting things to explore and destroy. I'm so busy with new things in my house that I don't have time to pull out my feathers any more. My mom says I look like I am wearing a fluffy sweater! I step up, but first you have to scratch my head. I have more energy than I know what to do with, so when I get out of my cage, I do my ... (Read More)Sufi dance - I twirl, and spin, and squeal with delight. I am very intelligent, and always watching for opportunities. You have to be on your toes with me so experience is required, and I am probably not ready for a house with children. I definitely do not want to share you with another bird! I am more than enough! I don't talk, and my call can be heard throughout the house, so be prepared for noise. I love to throw things, including food, but I am a very good eater. Chop, fresh vegies, fresh fruit, Harrison's pellets, nutri-berries, pasta, rice, almonds in the shell, and beans are my favorite foods. I like to be misted with warm water, but I don't care for a shower, thank you. I will hold up my wings, and bend over for you to get my body wet. I Love it! Give me a chance, and I will show you what a real bird is like! Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! Our name or Huey, Dewey, Louie and Donald. We are a bonded quartet of parakeets and we are fairly young, each less than 2 years of age. We are still a little skittish around humans and our foster parronts are working hard with us on handling, but with work, we will come around. We do love to play with our toys and we love to sing and chatter - we are very happy! Our foster parronts are also working on getting us converted to a healthy diet which includes a seed and pellet diet (no sunflower seeds) along with chop, fresh vegetables, fruits, and healthy nuts. Animal ID: JourneyBlue & Gold Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive

Hi. My name is Journey and I am an approximately 15 yr old blue and gold macaw. They call me a boy but the doctor hasn't confirmed it. My foster mom gave me this name because I didn't have a name prior to coming here. I also never came out of my cage. Don't worry though; life isn't too shabby nowadays. I try to talk and am learning that being vocal isn't a bad thing but a way of expressing myself. I eat healthy nuts and am in the final stages of a full conversion from seed to pelleted diet. I am still a little uneasy with interacting with people but as you can see by my photos my foster mom is working on it because the world is a big and ... (Read More)scary place outside of my cage! I am also learning how to play with toys because I love shredding newspaper on the bottom of my cage! My foster mom bought me a shred ball and I love it! I am OK with dogs being around - I am curious of them. I seem to like my foster mom over my foster dad but only by a little. I am working on being handled by humans as they haven't really interacted with me that much in my life, but I get lots of almonds and fruit for doing it so I am learning to gently take it from hands while in my cage because my cage is my safe place. I am pretty quiet for a macaw but come near my house and I will scream to let my family know! No need for an industrial alarm here! I am not the bird for someone who doesn't have big parrot experience as I have not been interacted with a lot until recently. With patience and love my foster mom already sees the great potential I have bottled up inside...I'm just scared. Will you take me in as one of your own? Interested in adoption? Animal ID: Lu-ManQuaker

Pet Bird

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Lu. My foster Mom calls me the Lu-Man - or sometimes 'The Mean Green Terrorizer!' I am a 5 year old quaker parrot and my foster Mommy says I am very special. I had an accident with my beak that has left me with only a partial beak on one side, but I am able to get around just fine and I am eating regular pellets, chop, fresh vegetables and fruits, and healthy nuts - almonds are my favorite nuts! However, I also go crazy over Caitec Birdie Munchie Cookies and I have to have chop every day, or I will vocalize until I get it! My care is a little bit specialized though and FPR says I will only be adopted to the right ... (Read More)family. I do live in a very large aquarium which has to be cleaned every night before bedtime, rather than a regular parrot cage. I also have to go to the vet every month for a beak trim - this needs to be done by an avian vet to make sure it is done in a very specific way so that I am can still get around and eat properly. Don't worry though - my small handicap does not take away from my bite! I can be very territorial of my cage and I only like certain people. In fact, when I pick the person I trust, watch out - you better not come near, because I will defend that person from you! My chosen person enjoys shoulder time with me and a nice preen of their face and hair. I don't like hands though - even the hands of my chosen person, so I only step up in a certain way - don't worry, my foster mom can show you, it is easy. With more time, I may learn to trust your hands as long as you are very patient and loving with me. I really hope that you will come and visit with me soon. Animal ID: BanditBlue & Gold Macaw (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Bandit and I am a gorgeous female Blue and Gold Macaw in my thirties . Before I came into Rescue, I was cage bound for many, many years and I had plucked myself so badly that I damaged my feather follicles, which means that my feathers will not grow back in most places. But that's OK because I am a fun loving nudist! Who needs clothes? Not me! My foster family has shown me that I am gorgeous without them! When I first came into Rescue, if anyone came within even a few feet of me, I would have a panic attack and fall on my back screaming, flapping, and kicking. I would also bite pretty hard - I was just so scared that I ... (Read More)didn't know what else to do. But I have flourished in foster care and I am now a much happier parrot. I get plenty of daily out of cage time with my foster family. I don't pluck anymore, but like I said, I will always be a nudist due to feather follicle damage. I love to be in the middle of all of the action at all times and I love to talk and amuse you with my vocalizations. I can bark, quack, and I am picking up new words all the time. I am still learning to trust though and am working on stepping up consistently, but I love to take treats from your hand and I enjoy my toys. My training has been a long road, and I will get there as long as I am with someone who has lots of patience and love to show me. I really need an experienced large bird owner! I have been in Rescue since 2013 after coming in with 3 other birds, so I am very much looking forward to finding a family of my own where I know I will be safe and loved. Maybe that could be with your family? I would really like for you to come meet me so we can see! In the meantime while I wait for my perfect family to come along, maybe you would like to send me treats or toys? Animal ID: CharlieSulfur Crested Cockato

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi Everyone! My name is Charlie and I am quite the handsome Sulfur Crested Cockatoo. I am approximately 15 years old which means I am still a youngster! I am also smaller than a Moluccan or Umbrella Cockatoo which makes me just the perfect size! I bet you noticed my beak looks a little different. I was attacked by a Macaw in a previous home and part of the top of my beak is missing. No worries, though, I am in no pain and I can eat and climb with no problems, my beak is just shaped a little funny is all. I like to think of it as distinctive! My foster mommy says I am a wonderful bird to have in the home! I will step up onto your hand and ... (Read More)sit on your shoulder. I just love head scritches and cuddle time. I have a bucket full of toys that I love to throw on the floor and play with. When I am done, my mom says I am such a good boy, I put all the toys back in the bucket. I am a good eater! I am on a healthy diet of pellets mixed with Higgens Safflower Gold. I like mixed veggies with bits of sliced almonds and chopped walnuts mixed in and will eat that daily. The piece of fruit that YOU are eating tastes way better than the one you just gave me, so I only like fruit if I can eat yours. I am a pretty happy fella! I am fully feathered with no history of plucking. I do not care for men, so I need a female caregiver and home with no other pets and no children, I am afraid of them. I like to be out of my cage and need someone who can give me a lot of out of cage time, I love roaming on the floor and follow mom around the house like a dog. I have been in Rescue for over a year so my adoption fee has been discounted. Won't you come meet me? I just know that my forever home is out there, maybe it's with you? Animal ID: ChampMollucan Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Champ is a real character and has never met a person he did not like. He has a wonderful disposition and is a real 'velcro' bird. Champ would hang out with you all day long if you let him, he just needs time to get used to you and any people need to go very slow with him. He did not come to us from an ideal situation and he has some insecurities because of that. He is however a typical Cockatoo and can be LOUD when he is feeling ignored, but for the most part, he is a fairly quiet bird, for a cockatoo anyway! As you may have noticed, Champ does not have tail feathers and he will not grow any (we call him the buttless wonder!). He had a wound ... (Read More)in that area which has long since healed but destroyed all follicles, however, all the plumbing works just fine! Champ has been converted to a healthy diet of pellets, fresh vegetables and fruit. He enjoys nuts as treats. He will try anything you offer. He is especially fond of sweet potatoes. Champ WILL NOT do well in a home with other cockatoos, he does like being around other birds, but NOT other cockatoos. He also does not like to be around other birds that are very loud. He is fine with other animals though, such as dogs. He is fine with men or women, but he does prefer men. Champ is under the age of 10 (best guess) and although he may not be the prettiest bird, he sure does have character and will make a great companion for the right family! PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in Florida
Birds can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.

Parrots mimic humans but do not mimic any other kind of animal in the wild. Most captive birds are unable to find a permanent home and experience some kind of abuse or neglect in their lifetimes. The use of nonstick cookware can be extremely toxic to parrots living in the home. Parrots can die from exposure to normal household substances such as bleach fumes, perfumes, and anything sprayed from an aerosol can.
