Animal ID: DaisyGoffin's Cockatoo (female)

Pet Bird

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi! My name is Daisy, the Goffin's Cockatoo, and I am as pretty as the flower. I am also a most agreeable little girl, I nod my head and say 'Yep' to everything, check out the video of me! I came into FPR on a mostly seed diet and my foster mom is currently trying to figure out which pellets I like the best. So far, I do like Harrison's. My foster mom is also introducing me to fresh fruits and veggies, I love cauliflower! I have a clean bill of health from the FPR vet, except for a small yeast infection that I am on medication for. I only have to take them for 21 days, so I will be done with those long before I am done with quarantine and ... (Read More)ready to go to my new home. I like music, especially when my foster mom sings to me and I will bob and swing my head in my 'Daisy' dance. I am a little timid of new things and still have not stepped up on my foster mom's hand but she is sure it won't be long until I do, I just need some time is all. I will need a family that is patient and has lots of love to give me. I know I will make my forever family a great companion soon. Are you them? Please come meet me and let's find out! If you would like to send me a welcome to rescue gift, you can see my amazon wish list at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/158GAWE9PDW02/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_o? Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Rain and I am gorgeous peach faced lovebird with green coloring, and my best friend is Miracle, she is also a peach faced lovebird, but with yellow coloring. We are bonded and must be adopted together as we are always side by side and are the best of friends. I will warm up to you very quickly, but Miracle will only come to you if she knows that I am close by. She can sometimes be a little territorial, but our foster Mommy is working with her on that. We love being by the window and we love to climb all over - we are very adventurous. We also love sitting on top of your head. We will come into any room where the light ...     Hello! My name is Merlin and I am a very young White-Capped Pionus. I was very sick when I came into Florida Parrot Rescue, but after 6 months of treatment for a very sever fungal infection (probably aspergillosis), I am finally healthy and ready to be adopted! My foster Mom says that I am a sweet and friendly bird, that I step up for anyone. I am also relatively quiet and I am not fussy about what I eat. I LOVE chop and clear the chop bowl every morning, but will also eat pellets, fresh vegetables, fruits, and healthy nuts. I also tend to stay on my play areas, I don't climb down or get into trouble - yet, tee hee! I do LOVE toys and ... Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Peek-A-Boo, I see you!! Are you looking for a couple of little birdies? Well here we are! My name is Sea and this is my best friend, Shell. We are a bonded pair and we must be adopted together. We had to leave our very large family recently and are looking for a small place in your home, forever. We are both healthy. We have never been asked to sit on a finger, so we are quite jittery about that, but we will try to learn quickly if you give us a chance. Animal ID: FinchescaPinTailed Whydah Finch

Pet Bird

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi, my name is Finchesca, and I am an adorable little Pin-Tailed Whydah Finch. My Foster mom says I am very, very sweet and very quiet. I barely make any sounds whatsoever, and when I do they're beautiful sounds of music, as I will sing for you every once in a while. I tend to keep to myself as I'm not used to human contact, but my foster Mom is working with me and I am starting to become more tame. I love to fly around my cage and spend a lot of my time looking at myself in the mirror. I will make a perfect pet for you as I don't require a lot of attention, a lot of maintenance, or a lot of cleaning up after, just your love, respect, and ... (Read More)care! I am currently on an all seed diet, but my foster did some research, and she's going to start introducing me to fresh fruits and vegetables as that's what I should be eating as well. I also will be introduced to mealworms as that is another form of food that is good for me. I'm very grateful to Florida Parrot Rescue for rescuing me and giving me an opportunity at a healthy and happy life. Please help me find a home very soon! (Less)

Animal ID: DollyMoluccan Cockatoo (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Dolly and I am a sweetheart of a 33 year old Moluccan Cockatoo! I am filled to the brim with energy and excitement and the Florida Parrot Rescue veterinarian has given me a clean bill of health. My foster family says I have a wonderful disposition and that I am kind, gentle, and I love to make friends with everyone I meet! I do speak some and can say Hello. I also like to mimic what you say and I whistle, play games, dance, and of course, give cuddles! I am on a really great diet of healthy pellets, vegetables, fresh fruits, and healthy nuts. I also wear a harness when I go outside - and I love to go outside when the ... (Read More)weather is nice! I do need to go to bed on time every night (in a dark, covered, quiet area) or I will let you know that it is past my bedtime by screaming - loudly - so please make sure I get plenty of rest. I do also get a bit jealous of other animals and will vocalize if I feel like they are getting too much attention over me. I have never been in a home with other animals before, so maybe with time and training, this reaction could be curbed. I would love to have a forever home with a family who can give me all of the attention I crave - I would do especially well with someone who stayed home the majority of the time as I need lots of attention. I really hope you will come meet me very soon and take me home to be part of your family! (Less)

Hello! My name is Harley and I am a six year old green Quaker parrot. I like kisses, music, and I can even talk. I like to say Hello and How are you? I also love to sit on my perch and look around at what everyone else is doing. I am a little shy and slightly cage aggressive, but with positive reinforcement, you can help me overcome that! I do love to sit on your shoulder though and will go wherever you go - I don't care where it is! I did come into rescue plucking my feathers a bit, but I am getting better with that every day. Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Skye and I am a cute little parrotlet. I am a new arrival with Florida Parrot Rescue, and boy am I happy that they found me! I came to FPR with 35 other birds after our owner passed away. FPR doesn't have much information about me, but the vet thinks I am still young. My foster Mommy says I should be in the circus as I love to hang upside down and some mornings, when she uncovers me, that is how she finds me! I am now getting fed a healthy diet of both pellets, seeds, and other good things like fresh vegetables and some fruits. I sure look forward to the mornings when I hear my food being prepared - I wait patiently on my ... (Read More)perch - but boy when she puts my dishes down, I do love chow time! I also love to make pretty little tweets and chirping sounds most of the day and it's so funny when my foster Mommy tries to mimic me. She is even trying to get me to talk - I guess that is what she is doing as she keeps repeating the same words over and over!! She does keep me entertained, though, lol!! I'm not comfortable at this time getting on my foster Mommy's fingers or being held - but what can you expect from me when I had very little attention before? Give a bird a break! But my foster Mommy knows this and she is being very patient with me, it will just take some time is all! I am really hoping that someone will want to adopt me who will continue providing me with the love and patience I need to come around and really make a great family member! Maybe that will be you? Animal ID: SweetnessUmbrella Cockatoo (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Sweetness and I am a male umbrella cockatoo who is around 12-15 years old. I can't fly because I had a pin in my wing for almost ten years, then it began to poke through my skin, but thanks to Florida Parrot Rescue and all of their supporters who donated to help, the vet removed the pin because it was very uncomfortable and was opening an area that was prone to infection. I have recovered very well and will require no extra attention because of that. I have since returned to full on cockatoo mode!! I love to talk to you and tell you what I'm thinking. I will say "Hello Sweetness" every time I see you and I will ... (Read More)also repeat a lot that you say. I really love when my foster parents spend all their time with me, but sometimes I just want to chew paper, like the newspaper they put on the bottom of my cage. I also get really excited when I have a new toy to destroy, so you have to make sure I always have lots of those. Of course I also love to eat, because, well, who doesn't?? Most of all I love to cuddle and would let you hold me like a baby all day long! I would really love a new family of my own, but please do your research before considering a family member like me. I can live just as long as you but I will always be demanding of your time, so please make sure that is something you will able to offer. Please come meet me very soon, I love meeting new people! Animal ID: Baybe & PeachesGoffin's & Moluccan (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Baybee and my sister is Peaches. We are both cockatoos of course, but I am a Goffins and my sister is a Moluccan. We've been together for 14 years and we are bonded so we have to be adopted together. Right now, we live in two separate cages side by side but we love to be out together. It's all good though because we are both as sweet as we can be! We love to play together and we both love a healthy diet of fresh pellets, vegetables, some fruit, and healthy nuts (remember, no peanuts for parrots!). Peaches loves oranges, so she needs a little slice each day or she will let you know you did something wrong! Just not too ... (Read More)much orange as they are acidic and that is not good in too much quantity for most parrots. We are spoiled and like most cockatoos, we can be vocal if we feel like we are being ignored. When we get going it's quite funny, we make our foster family laugh and laugh! Our favorite thing is to cuddle, just be careful you don't over-do it as cockatoos are very easy to stimulate the wrong way, so please stick to scritching our necks and not other areas that may over stimulate. As you can see, we do over-tend to our feathers a bit, but we are working on trying to stop that. Peaches says that if you give us a forever home, just be prepared to get receive of love and entertainment! Peaches also thinks I should tell you while she's not scared of much, I am a bit scared of other animals like dogs, so we may do better in a home without other species of animals. We both LOVE people though and I like jumping from person to person - it's really fun. Peaches gives long, great hugs and she loves kids. I like kids too, but I prefer the bigger people! We both actually prefer men but we will go to anyone. We also love going outside with our foster mommy in the mornings in the screened patio to get sun. We have also both recently visited the veterinarian and we are healthy, so as long as we can stay together we will be just fine. Our mommy says we are so funny together and that we will make great family companions for the right home willing to spend the time and effort we need to be happy - just remember that we both can live just as long as you and it is important to keep us on balanced, healthy diets with lots of toys supplied for stimulation as cockatoos are very intelligent animals. We can't wait to meet you and we hope you come see us real soon! Toodles! Baybee and Peaches (Less)

Animal ID: WillyPatagonian Conure

Pet Bird    Age: Senior

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Willy and I am a 20 year old Patagonian Conure. I have been in 4 different homes in that time and none of them were very safe for me. When I came to live with my Florida Parrot Rescue foster family, I was very sick and also very unsure of everything. With amazing vet care through the FPR vets, I am now doing much better although they say I am still very underweight. I weigh about 225 grams and the vet says I need to be more like 380 grams. My foster Mom of course is trying to get me to eat healthy and gain weight at the same time, but she says I am a finicky eater as I was previously on an all seed diet. I do like my ... (Read More)Roudybush pellets though - but we will keep working on the diet thing. I like to give and receive kisses and I love to eat with my foster family. I do try to steal food though, sometimes even right of your mouth, so you have to watch me because they say that is not healthy for me - I am supposed to stick to my own bowl - pffft - whatevs! When I came into rescue, I was plucked bare on my chest and back, but my feathers are beginning to grow back now. I do talk a little, I can say my name and Hello. I am sometimes a little vocal, but I calm down quickly. I also like to vocalize when I hear running water - it gets me very excited and I have begun to take baths - which I had never had before. I also like to hang out with my foster Mom wherever she goes in the house and I will watch while she works on the computer or watches TV, sometimes I even fall asleep on her arm or while I am preening myself. I am really looking forward to finding a place to land where I can stay for the rest of my life where I am a loved and cherished family member. Could that maybe be with you? Animal ID: El Capitan & NapoleonCockatiels Pair (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi everyone! Our names are El and Napoleon. We are a pair of bonded cockatiels and brand new to FPR! We were not handled very much before coming into the rescue, so we are a little timid when humans reach into our cage. However, our foster mom is teaching us that humans can be fun - and they give the BEST head scritches! El (yellow) loves to whistle in the morning and will say 'What cha doing?', 'Good morning!', 'Good birdie', and a bunch of other chatter that our foster home hasn't quite figured out yet. While El is a little more independent, I (Napoleon) am a little more insecure and very reliant on El's companionship. Even still, our ... (Read More)foster home thinks I will end up being the affectionate one because I loves to give kisses, scritches, and I like to inspect your body for jewelry. We are still adjusting to this stuff called 'chop' and these weird 'pellet' thingies. We were used to an all seed diet, so we are learning to try new things! I did came into the rescue with an infection, so we're not quite ready for adoption yet, I have to finish my meds first, but you can still go ahead and put an application in on us! We will update you all on our progress as I get better. Oh, and thank you again to Theresa Packard for the cage, toys, and food! We are loving all our new stuff! (Less)

Animal ID: LuigeBlack Headed Caique

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Hello my name is Luige and I am a Black Headed Caique. I am about 5 years old and as you can see I am gorgeous! I am very independent and prefer to do my own thing. I often entertain my foster mom and make her laugh, I am quite the character! When she comes home I greet her with whistles and I love when she opens the door and I am able to come out at my leisure. I don't really talk but I make a lot of sounds and whistles. I sleep all night without problem but prefer to go to bed by about 8:30ish and I like my cage covered. I may complain for about 5-10 min but then I am quiet all night. I don't really like to be touched but I will step up ... (Read More)if I fly to the floor, but my foster Mommy is working with me on that. I do a lot of fun things that gives my foster mom something to watch like sliding around the bottom of my cage on my back, doing back flips on the corners of the cage, hanging upside down, and playing with my toys. When I am out of my cage all my foster mom has to do is say go back to you cage, let's go goodnight and wave her fingers/hand toward the door and I will fly back from my play gym or if I am on my cage I will go right back into my cage. I don't always like people messing with my cage if I am in it but once I see what you are doing I am ok with it. I love when my foster mom cleans my cage or around my cage (since I do make a mess) and I whistle at her the whole time to let her know how much I appreciate it. I also travel well once I am in my travel cage. I have made a few trips with her and I don't mind being in the car. I also enjoy looking out the front window from my cage. I love to eat'| sometimes I am picky but I like most fruits, roudybush pellets, and will try most things, so my foster Mom is working with me on vegetables as that part of a diet is more important than fruits. If I don't like what you give me, I will just throw it out of my cage or to the bottom of the cage (my foster Mom keeps trying anyway though, lol!). I take baths in my water dish so it needs to be changed at least two times a day and I really enjoy my spray downs with a water bottle. I love to be around people. My previous owner had dogs and when my friend brought over dogs I got really excited, but just remember that you have to be careful when other species are around, you have to make sure I am safe and that there is no physical contact. Kids are ok for a little while as long as they are not running around being kids, I much prefer adults though. Won't you let me join your family? I would love to bring some joy into your home. My foster mom will be sad to see me leave but she wants me to have a forever family. So please come meet me very soon! (Less)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hello! My name is Kiki and my best friend is Gigi. I am an Umbrella Cockatoo and Gigi is a Goffins Cockatoo. We are bonded and must be adopted together. I love to talk and I can say 'I love you' 'hello' and 'mamma'. I also love to dance with the little people in my new foster home and I like to also whistle along with my favorite songs. My foster Mom says that my friend Gigi has a big personality. She is very friendly and loves to dance and receive head scritches (on her terms only, of course - she is a cockatoo, after all!). She does over groom on her feathers just a bit, but our foster Mom is working with her on that. Gigi is also ... (Read More)pretty vocal, so we are working on that, too. Our foster family has decided that we need a diet change and so they have been feeding us these things called pellets and we are also getting lots of fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, and healthy nuts (remember, no peanuts for parrots!). We are both really hoping that maybe someone out there has a heart big enough for two - we promise we can fill it up for you! Please come and visit us very soon! (Less)

Animal ID: LuluQuaker Parakeet

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi, my name is Lulu and I am a female Quaker parrot. I think I am about 10 years old because my owner found me in her tree about 8 years ago and my vet said I looked to be a couple of years old at that time. I am very beautiful and fully feathered. My new foster Mom said I am a good girl and am not very cage aggressive the way most Quaker parrots can be. Although I won't bite you, I do have a habit of holding onto my cage with my beak if you try to take me off it. I think it's funny. In fact, you can handle me just about any way you want to without getting bit. I very much enjoy head scratches and belly rubs. I have a little problem with one ... (Read More)foot which is not very noticeable, so I don't step up very well. . The FPR veterinarian said I either have a neurological issue or an old injury, but either way it is nothing that can be fixed, but that is OK, I am used to it and I get around my cage very well. I will sit with you and cuddle or stay on top of my cage, but I definitely like being out of my cage and in the middle of the action. My foster Mom is introducing me to chop and fruits and veggies. I already like my pellets, but I am not really crazy about the "good diet" yet. I used to love traveling in the motor home with my previous family and my fur brother, but my Mom became ill and the doctor said it would be better for her health if she found a new home for me. Would you like to meet me and see for yourself how cuddly I can be? If you would like to say "welcome into rescue" to Lulu the Quaker Parrot, you can purchase her a welcome gift on her amazon wish list at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1KY7ZFK4DTOPL/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_o? Animal ID: BluNanday Conure

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Blu and I am a Nanday Conure. My foster Mom says that I am one of the coolest conures she has ever met - well, I do have to admit that she is right! I came from my previous home never leaving my cage for almost three years because there were kitties there that my Mom thought may want to eat me, so she sent me to Florida Parrot Rescue to find a home where I can spread my wings! I LOVE being out of the cage and my foster Mom says I am VERY sweet. I am a typical conure, I can be loud when I want your attention or if you do something I do not like, and sometimes I do display some cage aggression. However, my foster Mom is ... (Read More)working with me on that and she says I am already getting much better. I like to sit on your shoulder and give you kisses and I love to groom you. I love getting kisses in return (on the top of the beak, of course, so you don't give me any germs or bad bacteria!). I also love to whistle and can make all kinds of sounds. My foster Mom is in the process of converting me to a healthier diet without seeds, but with healthy pellets, fresh vegetables, some fruits, and healthy nuts. She says that I am doing very well with the conversion. My favorites so far are blueberries, carrots, and any greens. The vet says I am very healthy and one of the nicest birds he has ever met, too! So please come meet me soon, I would love to have a home of my own with a loving family who will give me tons of attention and love! I can't wait to met you! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: SkippyYellow Nape Amazon

Pet Bird    Age: Senior

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi, Skippy here, and I would like to update you on my progress in my foster home. My foster parronts say I am very entertaining. I have telephone conversations all the time and like to join in on yours too. I love being out of my cage but I don't mind being in the cage either. I love my toys and it doesn't take this beak long to tear up a piece of wood! I am sharing my foster home with 3 other parrots and 3 small dogs and I don't mind one bit (of course we are not let out with the dogs - you have to be very careful of parrots around other parrots and other species of animals - no physical contact!). I am even teaching my Quaker roommate some ... (Read More)words to add to his vocabulary. I am adding things to my repertoire either with new words and sounds or old ones that are finally coming out as I get used to my surroundings. One of my favorite things to say is 'hello, wanna come over?' And I mimic conversations but you can only hear mumbling. I am not really loud most of the time, but I do like to call for a couple people from my past and I always greet you with a cheery 'Hello' when you come in the door. I also try to sing Amazing Grace which my foster family gets a kick out of. My feathers were not in good shape when I came into Florida Parrot Rescue, but my new diet is helping to make them much prettier. I think I am gorgeous anyway! I still am unsure whether I am a boy or girl because I lived as a boy for all of my life, but the Vet thinks I am a girl. I heard my foster mom say that she thinks I am okay with men and women, but my foster Dad is the only one who can reach in my cage when he needs to. So far I am not a cuddly bird, but we will see as I get to know my forever family. Won't you give this stunning 'middle-aged' feathered beauty a chance. I'm waiting for your call. Regards, Skippy.     Hello! My name is Mr. Bird and I am a 10 year old Military Macaw. Several years ago, my owner passed away. Animal ID: JourneyBlue & Gold Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive

Hi. My name is Journey and I am an approximately 15 yr old blue and gold macaw. They call me a boy but the doctor hasn't confirmed it. My foster mom gave me this name because I didn't have a name prior to coming here. I also never came out of my cage. Don't worry though; life isn't too shabby nowadays. I try to talk and am learning that being vocal isn't a bad thing but a way of expressing myself. I eat healthy nuts and am in the final stages of a full conversion from seed to pelleted diet. I am still a little uneasy with interacting with people but as you can see by my photos my foster mom is working on it because the world is a big and ... (Read More)scary place outside of my cage! I am also learning how to play with toys because I love shredding newspaper on the bottom of my cage! My foster mom bought me a shred ball and I love it! I am OK with dogs being around - I am curious of them. I seem to like my foster mom over my foster dad but only by a little. I am working on being handled by humans as they haven't really interacted with me that much in my life, but I get lots of almonds and fruit for doing it so I am learning to gently take it from hands while in my cage because my cage is my safe place. I am pretty quiet for a macaw but come near my house and I will scream to let my family know! No need for an industrial alarm here! I am not the bird for someone who doesn't have big parrot experience as I have not been interacted with a lot until recently. With patience and love my foster mom already sees the great potential I have bottled up inside...I'm just scared. Will you take me in as one of your own? Interested in adoption?     Hello! My name is Abigail - or Abby for short - and I am a gorgeous 8 year old Umbrella cockatoo. My foster Mom says I am something called an escape artist and of course I do also like to chew on things - I am a cockatoo, after all!!! I LOVE to chew on household stuff if you are not careful, so you have to make sure to keep an eye on me at all times and to make sure you provide me with LOTS and LOTS of chewing/wooden toys. I am also really outgoing - a social butterfly if you will! I don't mind other animals being around and even though Florida Parrot Rescue was told I only prefer women, I have warmed up to men now - so really it just ... (Read More)depends on who you are - you will have to meet me to find out if we get along ;) I should not be in a home with young children though. If I do choose you as a friend, then I like to love on you all the time - I love cuddling and I love swinging from your hand, but watch out about over-bonding with me - if I get too bonded to one person I might not be nice to other people in the home, so please make sure you know how to handle positive reinforcement with cockatoos so this does not happen if I come to live with you. Of course I am also very vocal (again, I am a cockatoo!), so this is another reason you should know all about how to use positive reinforcement. I sometimes mumble as well and I like to say 'I love you, Abigail', 'hi' and some other things my foster family has not quite figured out yet. My foster Mom is also trying to get me to try new foods, I sort of like those pellets, but I will keep working on that part, she say's I am picky - whatever, Mom! Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Sir Humphrey Gilbert and my best buds are Sylvester and Sunny. The three of us are tightly bonded and we all love each other very much, so we have to be adopted together. Sylvester is the older of us, around 6-7 years old, and Sunny and I are just a couple of years younger.     My name is Harollette and I am an 8 year old Severe Macaw. I am a good bird who strongly prefers men. I would do best with a single male or at least a male as my primary caregiver. I am a great talker and my foster parents are still finding out new things I say every day. I eat a variety of food well but my foster Dad is working on converting me to a healthy diet of pellets, vegetables and fruits and by the way, I LOVE nuts as treats - only healthy nuts though like pistachios and almonds - no peanuts! I also really love to enjoy meal time with my human. Since I am a macaw, I can be very loud when I want to be but for the most part I am quiet ... (Read More)(for a bird anyway)!     Hi everyone, my name is Zeke and I am an 11 year old quaker parrot. As you can see, I do pluck my feathers, but not too much anymore. I got the best present in the world from my foster mom - A TENT. You can see it in the background of my picture! I get in it a lot and rock it, when it stops I wiggle and it rocks again. I also sleep in it, it makes me feel very comfy. I say step up, come on, and like my ladies around but do not like children. I wish you would come see me and my beautiful tent, and see what a great personality I have. I don't like being left alone for long, so when you come home, I will give you a grand siren hello. I ... She also let me find out about fruits, nuts, and some other great stuff that ekkies like me need in our diet - we do have a specialized diet, ya know? I like to take showers and will spread my wings.     'Nobody puts Baby in a corner.' That is my favorite line in the whole movie! That shouldn't come as a surprise after all, my name is Baby. I am 9 year old female Senegal parrot who loves to sit with my chosen ones. Sometimes I like sitting on the knee, other times I like sitting on the shoulder. A lot of times, I will put my head down so that you may scratch my head. Other times, I like to be in my room and entertain myself with the toys I have. Whatever my mood may be, I will let you know what I want. Example: If I am sitting on my door, and I want to be with you I will hop onto your shoulder as you walk by. My foster mom calls me 'the ... Love veggies, especially in chop and the steam fresh veggies with brown rice my foster dad makes is fabulous. There are times when I like a certain thing more than others, one day carrots, other days yellow split peas. I am a calm and quiet parrot that will develop stress related arrhythmia if my home life is active. I prefer to be the one and only Baby. If you are looking for your Baby, please be mine! Animal ID: JakeBlue & Gold Macaw (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Jake is a very well behaved blue and gold macaw, in fact, he is the most polite bird I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He says 'thank you' before taking a treat, or diving into his pellets. He also makes sure to greet you with a 'hello' or a 'good morning', and says 'goodbye' or 'good night' when I walk out of his room. Jake loves hanging out on my shoulder and nuzzling his face into my cheek. He is also quite a goofy bird while taking a shower, or meeting new people. He really perks up when men are around, and so I think he enjoys the company of both men and women. He has picked up a few words and sounds while staying with his foster ... (Read More)mom, including 'hi' in my voice, and a 'meow' in the voice of his cat friends. Jake will also quickly tell the other birds to 'stop!' if they get too loud. He is not fussy at all, and will readily try any food offered to him. He also is very happy to tear up cardboard and wooden blocks. Jake is also towel trained, to make visits to the vet easier. He would be a great addition to anyone's home! IMPORTANT NOTE: Jake will only be adopted to a home with a female as the primary care giver. Animal ID: SnowyUmbrella Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Snowy is 36 years old and came into the rescue from a loving home of 25 years. His owners felt they could no longer provide the attention he needs and made the very difficult decision to have him re-homed. Snowy is a very sweet and loving Cockatoo, he loves to snuggle and give kisses. He is a little hesitant at first but with a little nudging will step up for just about anyone, once you pick him up he is a Cuddle Bug! He does get a little jealous of others when his chosen person is around though (he may bite if someone gets too close to him and his chosen person). Snowy makes the sweetest coos and occasionally will laugh with the family, he ... (Read More)is very vocal and will carry on his own funny little conversations.... in his very own language! Like most U2's, he will scream if he feels that he is not getting enough attention. Snowy does pluck his abdominal/chest area but his feathers do still grow back as the follicles are not destroyed. We have not seen him pluck since he came into the foster home, so hopefully they will grow back. He enjoys being outside sitting on the 'front porch swing'. Animal ID: BanditBlue & Gold Macaw (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Bandit is a 20-25 year old Blue & Gold Macaw who came to us recently from an emergency intake of several birds out of the same home. While Bandit is obviously missing quite a few feathers (that most likely will not grow back), she has been given a clean bill of health by our vet. She does need more bathes and a better diet to eventually improve the condition of the remaining feathers, but we are working on that J She is loving her new pellet blend diet along with lots of fresh veggies, fruit and nuts. She especially loves bananas! While she is not yet easily handleable, she shows a keen interest in interaction and is showing a lot of ... (Read More)improvement in the short time she has been with us. She has a wonderfully clear speaking voice and can say 'Hello', 'Goodbye' and she quacks like a duck, she is very funny! The previous owner said she likes to bite you and then say 'ouch', but we have not witnessed this behavior while she has been with us. Bandit has huge, soulful eyes and we feel that with time, patience and an owner understanding of macaw behavior, she will become a great companion! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: ZoeyBare-Eyed Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Hi there- my name is Zoey, I am a male Bare-eyed cockatoo. I am a cute, cunning little fellow. My Foster Mom is working with me to improve my diet. I love chop but am having a hard time finding a pellet that I will eat, I prefer junk so she is trying to get me to eat the good stuff. I hadn't been handled much from my previous owner, maybe it is because I bite. I am stick trained and don't mind being moved to my play stand via this method. I do need a very patient person to work with me to learn trust and help me learn to behave better, I am not a family bird yet, but my foster Mom will continue to work with me. I do talk and have a cute ... (Read More)squeaky voice. I need an experienced, patient cockatoo person to help me become the best pet ever. Are you up for a challenge? If so, contact FPR and you can adopt me. Interested in adoption? Animal ID: CharlieSulfur Crested Cockato

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Charlie is a sulfur crested cockatoo. He has always been called a 'he' but his sex is unknown as is his species. He is either a small medium sulfur crested or a hybrid of a lesser sulfur and a medium. Life hasn't always been easy for Charlie. In the first home we are aware of he was attacked by a pair of macaws. They destroyed his upper mandible. It has partially grown back, but his sinuses are still exposed and always will be. It hasn't inhibited him though from being active or from eating. He may not be able to crack a walnut, but he readily eats most anything else without assistance. His beak does however require trimming every four weeks ... (Read More)in order to keep from growing too long. If this isn't done it makes eating difficult and will cause it to become thin and brittle as well. Charlie's next home was with a well meaning person who took in more birds than she could handle. Compounded by the owner's poor health he was soon living in unhealthy conditions. The home was crowded and the air toxic. Now Charlie is living in foster care and having a blast. He loves to play with toys that he can stash in his boxes, and will actually unscrew toys hung from the top of the cage to add to his stash. He loves his foster mom. His foster dad? Well, not so much. Other birds? Again, not so much. Actually poor Charlie is rather anti social and seems to strongly bond to one person and one person only. He's extremely smart and is an escape artist. Charlie may not be perfect in appearance or behavior, but if you are looking for a challenge and are female he is worth the effort. To the one he chooses he is very loving and sweet. Interested in adoption? Animal ID: ChampMollucan Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Champ is a real character and has never met a person he did not like. He has a wonderful disposition and is a real 'velcro' bird. Champ would hang out with you all day long if you let him, he just needs time to get used to you and any people need to go very slow with him. He did not come to us from an ideal situation and he has some insecurities because of that. He is however a typical Cockatoo and can be LOUD when he is feeling ignored, but for the most part, he is a fairly quiet bird, for a cockatoo anyway! As you may have noticed, Champ does not have tail feathers and he will not grow any (we call him the buttless wonder!). He had a wound ... (Read More)in that area which has long since healed but destroyed all follicles, however, all the plumbing works just fine! Champ has been converted to a healthy diet of pellets, fresh vegetables and fruit. He enjoys nuts as treats. He will try anything you offer. He is especially fond of sweet potatoes. Champ WILL NOT do well in a home with other cockatoos, he does like being around other birds, but NOT other cockatoos. He also does not like to be around other birds that are very loud. He is fine with other animals though, such as dogs. He is fine with men or women, but he does prefer men. Champ is under the age of 10 (best guess) and although he may not be the prettiest bird, he sure does have character and will make a great companion for the right family! Everyone who meets Champ falls in love with his sweet personality. Interested in adoption? PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in Florida
Birds can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.

Parrots mimic humans but do not mimic any other kind of animal in the wild. The use of nonstick cookware can be extremely toxic to parrots living in the home. Parrots can die from exposure to normal household substances such as bleach fumes, perfumes, and anything sprayed from an aerosol can. Exotic birds can live to be over 60 years old.
