Rescue Me ID: 17-03-29-00539Cockatiel and Budgie (female)

Pet Bird

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Two hearts for one! The first is Madame, a senior cinnamon pearl cockatiel, the only type of coloration to have red cheeks as a female. Her last owner found her abandoned outside a shelter, already as an adult so her age is unknown. She was given to me for free, but does not like to play and is very slow to adjust. She'll step up and sit on your shoulder, though, especially if you're a female like her! Unfortunately, she's gotten much more loud and likely to panic over the four years I've had her; she's prone to panicking for long periods if you leave the room, which is why she would do best in a home that can be there for her more than me ... (Read More)(since I work very late hours). Her tiny 'friend' is Winter the budgie, I think he's a boy - I adopted him at Pet Supermarket about seven months ago, thinking that would help Madame panic less. Here is the problem -- it turns out Madame hates other birds. So Winter LOVES Madame, but Madame hates Winter. So this little budgie follows her everywhere, and she actually tries to fight him away! He doesn't particularly like people, but he's very clever at copying cockatiel chirps. I used to keep them separate, but Winter would break out of his cage to be closer to Madame. The ideal home would be one that is patient with Madame's screaming and could give her the attention she needs so she calms down, yet also perhaps introduces Winter the budgie to some new budgie friends that he would get along with better. I'll happily provide their brand new cage, so long as you can describe why you're interested and what your patience level is (and hopefully your experience with other birds). For as much as it breaks my heart to let go of these two, I'm happy to do so if I know that they're going to a home that will give them much better attention. Thank you! (Less)

Animal ID: RockyGoffins Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi Everyone! My name is Rocky and I am a 30 yr old Goffins Cockatoo. Nice to meet you! I've been with my foster mom for almost a month now and she calls me her good boy. I have to agree with her, I AM a good boy :) Not only am I a good boy, but I am potty trained! How cool is that? When you come to meet me, you can ask my foster mom how that works. I love music and I will entertain you by dancing to it. Of course, you are always welcome to join me and we can dance together! I also like to play peekaboo. When we aren't playing, I am quite content to sit on your shoulder so you can give me head scritches. I love those too, what cockatoo ... (Read More)doesn't?? Remember though, please don't pet me on the back or under the wings, just on the top of my head. You can rub my feet too, if I will let you. Face it, I just love attention! I'm a little shy around people I don't know and prefer not to step up from inside my cage until I know you better. Once I'm out with you and playing around, I'll step up most of the time. I am on a healthy pellet diet and I just love my fruits and vegetables. I am very loving and playful with my 'chosen one' but not so much with others. I would do best in a home with no other pets or kids. I do get a little anxious when my foster mom leaves the room and I use my 'outside in the Jungle' voice to try to locate her. For this reason, I am not suitable for apartment or condo living. My foster mom is working on teaching me to use my 'inside in a house' voice, instead. When you look at my picture, you might be wondering what that dark spot is a little below and to the left of my eye. I believe you Humans call that an 'ear', the better to hear you tell me how good I am. Actually, the reason you can even see my ear is that, at one point on my journey to find my forever home, I developed a plucking habit in that area and my feathers never grew back. Would you like to come out and see for yourself what a good boy I am? I would sure like to meet you! The wonderful folks at FPR told me I have an Amazon Wish List and I should share the link in case you'd like to purchase something from it for me. I would sure appreciate anything you would like to send me! https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1RVAU7613FRIB/ref=cm_wl_list_o_262? Thank you so much for stopping by to read my story. Animal ID: ChippyChirpcockatiel

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi there, Chippy Chirp here! I am a young lutino cockatiel. Although they do not know my age, it's ok because I am as sweet as can be! I was very ill when I first came into Rescue, but the very nice people at FPR got me the medical care I needed and it has me feeling like a brand new bird; and now, I am ready to meet my new forever family. I am very shy, but my foster mom is working with me to help me come out of my shell. (haha pun intended) She goes slowly and lets me work at my own pace, and I like that. A slow pace helps me to feel comfortable and more confident in my new surroundings while I get to know you. I will step up on occasion ... (Read More)and I am very polite when I do. Overall, I am a pretty easy going bird and I am just happy to hang out in the room with you. Like most cockatiels, I will not eat things that I do not recognize as food. Currently, I am on a seed diet but I hope to learn how to enjoy fresh veggies, fruit, healthy nuts and chop too. Despite my name, my foster mom says I am super quiet even for a little cockatiel like me and she wishes I would chirp more since my voice is just so pretty. I am such a quiet cutie that I am told I am the BEST study buddy and work partner ever! I would be perfect for someone with not a lot of space in their home, but a whole lot of room in their heart! Could that be you? Please come meet me and let's find out! I could really use some of these great things on my wish list. Would you be willing to purchase a gift for me? I would be so thankful! Here is the link: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/PQWCUYXSGWC2/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? I sure hope you can come out and meet me soon! I'm looking forward to it! Animal ID: Gizmocockatiel

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi, my name is Gizmo! I was surrendered to Florida Parrot Rescue when my previous owner couldn't care for me anymore. I don't know how old I am, but I lived at the last house for approximately seven years. When I was there, I was not confined. I got to roam free and fly around on a screened porch, so I'm currently trying to get used to being in a cage and being clipped. I'm a bit shy, but very curious and interested. I'm scared right now to let anyone touch me, but I have lots of potential if you're patient with me. My foster mom thinks I'm a little lady due to my pretty pearl coloring even though I've been called a boy most of my ... (Read More)life. She's working with me to try to get me to trust her. I am a happy bird so I chirp a lot, but don't sing or talk. Right now, I only eat seed. She's trying to get me to taste different things for an improved diet. I keep ignoring everything she puts in front of my beak because I don't recognize it yet as food, but I will someday. I see several of these furry four-leg things walking around the house that bark and meow, but they're new to me so I keep a close eye on them for sure! I have no experience with young children. I don't usually bite, but I am very nervous so I'll frantically flutter around the cage to get away from you if try to pet me. I know if you spent a lot of time with me and gave me love, I could become a great companion. I am eager to join a forever family. Could that forever family be yours? Come meet me and let's find out! I also would be grateful if you'd be willing to buy me some things from my Amazon wish list. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1M3SP243ROQSF/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Hope to see you soon! Rescue Me ID: 17-01-26-00137Lovebirds (pair)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Two lovebirds, we rescued them from a bad situation about 6 months ago. They were caged together when we first got them, and we have moved them to a much larger cage, but we think they pluck each others feathers at neck at night, otherwise get along fine, feed and drink together, follow each other around cage. Not yet sexed. They are younger birds, come out of cage pretty easily, curious, but not yet hand tamed. They are sweet. $35.00 for pair is what we paid to get them out of their bad situation. We want these two to go to a forever home, someone who is experienced with lovebirds and understands their behaviors and needs. We do not ... Please email us something about your experience and how you would be housing them. Animal ID: Beaker and MacMacaw

Pet Bird

Hello! I am Beaker the Green Wing Macaw, a loving gentle giant & rookie nudist! Don't let my name fool you. I like big beaks and I can not lie! If you come to meet me there's no way I could deny! I pretend to fly and I like to sit up high! I like to wrestle and play with your hands. I especially like it when you rub my head and scratch my ears. I almost fall asleep because those are my favorite spots. I also thought you'd like to know that I am pretty quiet for a Macaw so no worries about needing a pair of ear plugs! However, quiet for a Macaw can still be pretty loud so I am not suited to apartment or condo living. Please live in a ... (Read More)single family home. I am a lover of my foster hu-mom and my human sister. I am a little bit shy, so I do prefer their presence only one at a time. I will also give you lots of kisses on command. Let's not forget about my diet. I am a bit picky with these cut up pieces of assorted goodies. My Hu-mom is still trying to convince me that they are yummy to my tummy. I guess they are called veggies. Although I am not liking them at all (and not eating them), my Hu-mom keeps trying anyway. Just because I don't eat it the first time doesn't mean I won't eat it at all. I do however love to eat my pellets along with a variety of some fruits & healthy nuts. My buddy here is Mac. He says hello to Everyone out there too! He is a beautiful and loving Blue and Gold Macaw, so say our foster parronts. He will step up and interact with most anyone although he does seem to prefer men. He tolerates our foster mom when our foster dad is not around. Our foster dad brags about how gentle he is. He really loves head scratches and all the attention you can give. Mac is not picky about his diet. Heck, he likes everything! Pellets, fruits, vegetables, I have never seen him turn down anything our foster parents have ever offered him! Mac does say a few words but he really doesn't talk much. He is also quiet for a Macaw, but like I mentioned before, neither of us are suited for apt or condo living. I forgot to mention till I just remembered now to tell you, Mac also really likes his baths! Although Mac and I aren't bonded in the usual way and we live in separate cages, we get HIGHLY agitated when our cages are separated and we can't see each other, so we must be adopted together and our cages kept next to each other or very close by, in the same room. We both think you will be really impressed by us. We both have a lot to offer a family and will make excellent companions. Is there any one out there that has room in their hearts (and homes) to give 2 beautiful macaws (that would be Mac and me) the forever family we want so badly? Please remember we live a longgg time, so be prepared to make a lifelong comittment to us, and we will love you, in return, for the rest of our lives! In the meantime, would you like to buy us something from our Amazon Wish List? HINT: I like to chew wood and go thru my chewable wood toys so fast that my foster family can't keep up. Really, though, anything you decide to buy us would be much appreciated. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/34XZWEBOCN4Y7/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Hi! My name is Marley and I'm a one and a half year old yellow-sided green cheek conure. I LOVE to play and bounce and explore! I especially love to be around people and will bounce along with anyone. I dislike being alone and will sometimes scream if I get too lonely, but my foster family says this behavior is getting better with time. I'm most happy just being on someone's shoulder and love to snuggle and get my head scratched. I'm a little timid and nippy at times, but I'm sweet and very affectionate once you get to know me. Though I have a slight preference for females, I'll happily be with anyone who will give me attention. I can say ... Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi Everyone! My name is Lazer and I am a 15 year old (approximately) male, Eclectus parrot. I was named after a special, lazer-like sound I make when I get excited. I am missing a lot of my feathers due to my stressful life before I came to the Rescue but I am happy to stay that since I've been with the wonderful folks from FPR, I have not plucked at all! Matter of fact, I'm even growing some of my feathers back. I have been offered some yummy foods since I've been with my foster family which has definitely helped my feathers to grow! I love fruits, veggies and 5 grain casseroles (ask my foster mom for the recipe) My foster mom tells me ... (Read More)all the time what a good bird I am! I step up, give kisses and just love being around people. I do seem to prefer women to men, matter of fact, men's hats trigger my lazer sound!. I am a little shy around dogs, which isn't such a bad thing since I shouldnt be left unsupervised around your furry friends anyway. My foster mom thinks I would make a wonderful companion (I do too!) How about coming out to meet me and seeing if I would make a wonderful companion for YOU!??. I hope to meet my new family very soon. Animal ID: Mojicockatiel (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Hellooo everyone out there in cyberspace! My name is Moji and I am a beautiful, young, male, cockatiel looking for a forever home. When I was a baby, I broke my leg and it didn't heal exactly right, and I hurt my wing while trying to balance on my bad leg, so I have some tender places, but I still can perch on your finger and enjoy a good head scritch. I mumble most of the time, but my foster mom has heard me say what sounds like words! She is trying to teaching me all kinds of new stuff. I am on a fairly healthy diet of Harrison's Pellets and Feed Your Flock Pellets. Those are really good! I do not love fresh veggies yet but my foster ... (Read More)mom keeps putting them in a bowl for me. You know how we Cockatiels are, we won't eat anything that we don't recognize as food so, some day, when I understand they are food and are yummy, I will probably try them. I was skinny when I came to Florida Parrot Rescue, but I am making up for lost time. Just wait and see how I grow stronger! I have no experience with children or pets other than being one of many birds. I don't bite, I'm just a little shy. I know with patience and love, I could be coaxed out of my shell (haha, see? I have a sense of humor too) and become a loving companion, eager to socialize and be with my forever family. Could that forever family be yours? Come meet me and let's find out! I would be grateful if you'd be willing to buy me some things from my Amazon wishlist. Here is the link: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1PLIYK0MHLL4J/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Animal ID: CocoAmazon

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi Everyone! Originally, I came to my foster mom without her knowing anything about me at all. Not even my name! But I am a very smart, talkative, Amazon and I told her my name- it's Coco!! So, Coco here, nice to meet you, so glad everyone is finally able to call me by name! I got a clean bill of health at the vets. They can't tell how old I am but they think I am young. My foster mom is working with me on trying to improve my diet. So far I like the fruity pellets and almonds! I also get little bits of wholegrain cracker for a treat! MMMMM I sure do love those. I tasted chop once, and I really didn't like it but mom keeps putting it in my ... (Read More)food dish so perhaps I'll change my mind. You know how we Amazons are, most of us really LOVE foods of all types, it's just a matter of getting used to them. I do not step up, currently, but my foster mom is teaching me this new game. I call it 'click treat' and I really like any kind of game that I can earn treats. When I touch my beak to this stick, I hear a click and I get a treat! It's fun and I'm pretty sure that soon I will understand that I'm supposed to step up. I am also quite polite when I want to be. I will say 'thank you' when I get put to bed at night. My foster mom thinks it's really sweet. I also make a very loud siren-type screech which isn't so polite and makes me unsuitable for apartment or condo living. Do I sound like I might be a good companion for you? All I need is a bit of love, patience and understanding and I'm sure I'll be more than a good companion, I'll be a GREAT one. Please come meet me and let's see where it goes from there! While you are thinking about that, I could really use some things from my Amazon wish list. Maybe you could buy me something? I would sure appreciate it! Here is the link: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/280LGRGEXE90P/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Hope to meet you soon! Hugs and kisses, Coco Interested in adoption? Animal ID: FijiLorikeet (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Howdy! My name is Fiji. I am a 4 yr old female rainbow lorikeet. My personality is as bright and busy as my beautiful feathers! My favorite toys are bright plastic balls and rings that I can hang upside down from. I also love to put on a show for my foster mom. I talk to her, play peekaboo, tug of war and lay on my back for tummy tickles. When I'm in the right mood I'll step up and beg for head scritches. I love head scritches! Like any performer I crave an audience and will let you know if I'm feeling under appreciated. I may be a little bird but I have a big voice. I haven't been around kids or other birds much so I don't know how I ... (Read More)feel about them. Lorikeets are nectar eaters in the wild and recreating this at home can be messy. I am currently eating Pretty Bird Lory pellets, daily, supplemented with nectar and lots of fresh fruits and veggies. I drink from a water bottle so that helps keep things a little cleaner. My droppings are more moist and sticky than other parrots because of the nectar. The sugary food and feces are prime breeding ground for bacteria so it's very important to clean my cage and bowls frequently to keep me healthy. If you think you like to have your very own clown to make you smile everyday I am just the birdie for you. I hope you come to meet me soon. While you are waiting to meet me, would you like to buy me a little something from my Amazon wishlist? Maybe another toy that I can hang upside from? I would sure love that!!! Animal ID: Pearl and AmethystLovebird

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Hi! My name is Amethyst and my best buddy is Pearl! I'm the pretty blue and purple one with a black head, Pearl is a gorgeous cream color with a slight teal green that's hard to see in pictures. We are two very young (around six months) lovebirds! We are bonded to each other and come as a package deal :) Pearl is kinda fidgety and neither of us are very tame YET but our foster daddy has experience with untame lovebirds so he's very optimistic that we will be friendly to people! Right now, even though we will come out of our cage if given the chance, we are very skittish of humans. Our foster daddy continues to work with us on this, showing ... (Read More)us that humans can be trusted and loved. Our daddy has transitioned us to Roudybush nibbles, which is much better than that seed diet we were on!. He hopes that soon we will try fresh fruits and veggies. Would you consider adopting us? We are so young, I know we could learn to be wonderful, friendly companions with someone willing to be patient and show us lots of love. Why don't you come meet us and you can see for yourself how cute we are? We dont have many toys right now so maybe you can look at our wishlist? We have toys and food on there. Here is the link: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1D7KQRSW0LY1T/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? All gifts are very appreciated. Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! My name is Mellie and I am a female Eclectus. It's not known how old I am but the Vet guesses I am around 20 years old or older. I am working on being handled but I have not been handled much in the past so it's new to me and I'm a little scared. I know with love, patience and time I will look forward to stepping up onto my favorite humans' hand, arm or shoulder! I am on such a healthy diet! I love pellets, fruits and veggies. I am very quiet, I do make some different noises but nothing loud. I am a special needs bird because of an injury that I was found with. The circulation in my left leg was affected by something that may ... (Read More)have been wrapped around my leg before the good people at FPR took me in. I have meds that I take daily and I will have to take for the rest of my life. If you are interested in adopting me, please be prepared and able to administer these to me. My foster mom will show you how to do it. I also need special food that can only be purchased through the vet. My foster mommy will explain all this to you as well. My foster mom says I am a very good bird. Wouldn't you like to come meet a good bird like me and take me home forever? I'd sure like to meet you!!!! Animal ID: Lu-ManQuaker

Pet Bird

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Lu. My foster Mom calls me the Lu-Man - or sometimes 'The Mean Green Terrorizer!' I am a 6 year old quaker parrot and my foster Mommy says I am very special. I had an accident with my beak that has left me with only a partial beak on one side, but I am able to get around just fine and I am eating regular pellets, chop, fresh vegetables and fruits, and healthy nuts - almonds are my favorite nuts! However, I also go crazy over Caitec Birdie Munchie Cookies and I have to have chop every day, or I will vocalize until I get it! I have graduated to a regular cage now but I still have to go to the vet every month for a beak ... (Read More)trim - this needs to be done by an avian vet to make sure it is done in a very specific way so that I am can still get around and eat properly. My beak is still deformed but I am able to use it much more fully now. So, don't worry - my small handicap does not take away from my bite! I can be very territorial of my cage and I only like certain people. In fact, when I pick the person I trust, watch out - you better not come near, because I will defend that person from you! My chosen person enjoys shoulder time with me and a nice preen of their face and hair. I don't like hands though - even the hands of my chosen person, so I only step up in a certain way - don't worry, my foster mom can show you, it is easy. With more time, I may learn to trust your hands as long as you are very patient and loving with me. I really hope that you will come and visit with me soon. In the meantime, maybe you can send me some of my favorite things thorough my wish list at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2US4THPOPJI7T/ref=cm_wl_list_o_146? PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in Florida
Birds can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.
