Animal ID: KiwiQuaker Parakeet (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! My name is Kiwi and I'm a 7 or 8 year old Quaker Parrot. My first mommy says I'm a girl, but I think it was just a guess. My foster mommy says I'm just the best little birdie ever. It only took me 2 days to warm up and feel right at home. I'm a sweet, little girl and I just love to sit on your shoulder! If you have any of those hairs on your chin that you don't like, my foster mommy says I'm a great electr...electro...elec...one of those humans that specialize in hair removal and I'll do it for free!! I was kinda lonely and bored in my old home so I plucked my feathers on my chest (guess that's why I'm so good at plucking your chin ... (Read More)hairs for you). The vet says I didn't do any permanent damage to them, though, and they should grow back soon enough, now that I'm happy and not plucking anymore. I do chatter a lot in my own Quaker language. I understand what I'm saying but you probably won't, except when I say 'Hello'. Maybe you could teach me how to say more things that you might understand? I was on a seed diet when I came here, but I'm loving ZuPreem pellets and some of the stuff in the 'Chop' my foster parronts are giving me, especially if you hand feed it to me. So if you'd like a loving little birdie that is looking for my forever home, why don't you come meet me? I would make a wonderful baby for those new at this birdie stuff. In the meantime, would you like to send me a 'welcome to Rescue' gift? I would sure appreciate it! Here is the link to my Amazon Wish List: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3THLIOUMGKVFK/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Hope to meet you soon! Kiwi Interested in adoption? Animal ID: SqueakerQuaker Parakeet

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hello one and all! My name is Squeaker and I am a 10 yr old, Single Green Quaker seeking my forever home! I am an energetic, talkative, shoulder buddy. My favorite activities are eating (I AM a quaker after all!), preening and being with YOU! My foster mom says I am really smart. I talk really well and even respond to some commands. I am mildly defensive of my cage (wouldn't you defend your home?) but will hop onto your shoulder or on a towel over your hand. If you are looking for a full time companion and don't mind a few quirks (face it, quakers *are* a little quirky, that's why we are so well loved), I might be the Quaker of your ... Please look at my video while you are here and see for yourself how much I will love you if you take me home :) Bye for now, Squeaker Interested in adoption? Animal ID: WillyYellow Naped Amazon

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hello out there! My name is Willy and I am mighty pleased to meet you! I am a 30 yr old Yellow Naped Amazon. No one is sure, but me, whether I am a boy or a girl, but my foster family thinks I might be a boy. I guess, if I lay an egg, they are wrong, huh? In the meantime, though, I have not laid one, so we will go with boy. I really like apples and I bet if you offered me other fresh fruits and some healthy nuts like almonds or walnuts I'd like those too. I need veggies in my diet as well so some other good things to try would be chop, and fresh, raw veggies as yummy snacks. Please remember that avocados are deadly and peanuts can make me ... (Read More)really sick. I like to play with my bell, hang upside down, chatter and talk. I have been heard to say 'I love you', 'hello', 'bird', and I do whistle. I'm not really what you would call loud, either. I will step up onto your arm when I am away from my cage. My previous owner of 30 years was a man so I guess you could say I prefer men, but I seem to do ok with women. I am also ok with other birds as long as they stay off my cage. My cage is MINE! My foster family tells me that I am 'defensive' over my cage, and that I don't need to be because they aren't going to take it away from me or harm me while I'm in it or on it, but I don't understand exactly what they mean. I MUST protect my home, it is really all I still have! Even though they tell me I have a wonderful new home now, with lots to eat, lots of toys and lots of love to experience, my cage has been the only constant thing in my life lately and I may lunge at you while I am on it and even bite. My foster family is working hard to teach me not to be so defensive of my home, but it will take some time to learn. I have been used to doing this for many years. Habits can be broken, it just takes patience and time. I am a sweet boy and have the potential to be a wonderful, loving companion for the right person. I will need someone who is experienced with amazons and who will take the time to work with me using force free behavior modification. I will also need to be in a home without young children. With, time, patience and love, anything can be overcome! Please come and meet me and let's see if we can make things 'click' between us! If you would like to send me something from my Amazon wish list, here is the link: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1S8VXGTHM6GV8/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Hope to meet you soon! Animal ID: HarleyUmbrella Cockatoo (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! Hi! Hi! My name is Harley, pleased to meet you! Don't let the name fool you, I am a lovely 16 year old female Umbrella Cockatoo. My foster daddy says that I am a real sweetie. I do prefer the men, though, and must be adopted into a home where only men live. I am a real cuddly, hands on type snuggler and I have to admit I really crave attention..a lot of it. Sometimes, when I feel like I'm not getting all the attention I feel I deserve, I will scream to let you know that I think you are neglecting me. This makes me quite unsuitable for apartment or condo living, so please, if you are interested in adopting me, live in a single family ... (Read More)family home. I get along well with my foster family's furry friends (both dogs and cats) but please do not leave me together with your other pets, unsupervised, no matter how well we seem to get along. Bedtime is not a problem for me. I will quiet down and go to sleep right away when it's dark and I am covered and will sleep through the night. I am a pellet diet supplemented with 'chop'. My foster dad has been trying to get me to eat these things called 'nuts' but so far I havent been too thrilled with them. If you would like to cut off a piece of the fresh fruit you are eating and give me a taste, I bet I would like it! My favorite toy is one that I can destroy. I can't have too many of those! Hey! What can I say? I have a big beak and you know what they say...A busy beak is a happy beak. (or something like that). My favorite game is Peek A Boo! I love to get under the covers and stick my head out and hear you say Peek A Boo! I also like it when my foster daddy holds me on his arm, holds my feet, and flips me upside down very fast. If you come to meet me, I'll ask him to show you how he does this. I am really a pretty good natured bird and should fit well into my new forever home, but first I have to find it! Would you be interested in giving a beautiful Umbrella cockatoo a home for good? How about coming to meet me and let's see if you and I are meant to be together! In the meantime, would you like to buy me a gift from my Amazon wish list? Here is the link, I would really appreciate it. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3AFC7LC3LWBJ4/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Hope to meet you soon! Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Purza is a wonderful medium sized bird. She is about 28 years old or so but these birds can live to be much older. She is very active and hearty. She loves to be with you and get scratches on her neck and under her wings. She is very sweet and loving. She is a plucked on her belly. She was plucked well before we got her but seems to not be plucking actively anymore, she is just bare on her little belly. Vet says those feathers may never grow back. However, she is still as cute as can be. She tolerates the presents of other birds but is not much into having a bird friend. She would probably be best as an only bird. She definitely prefers ... (Read More)humans! She is fine with dogs and cats, of course must be monitored. She has had a busy, active life with us and unfortunately circumstances have changed in our lives and she is not getting as much attention as she used to or as she deserves. We care about her a lot. She will not go to just any home so we can 'get rid of her' we would like her to be part of a wonderful family where she can get all the spoiling and attention she needs. She will come with her cage which is a brand new King's cage that opens to a play top, as well as all her toys and accessories. She is on a very good diet of Harrison's pellets and daily fresh fruits and veggies. She is NOT a picky eater. In fact, she prefers to have a little taste of whatever you are having! LOL please contact me if you would like more information or if you would like to schedule a time to meet her. Thank you! (Less)

Animal ID: ArtichokeYellow Naped Amazon (female)

My name is Artichoke but my foster mom likes to call me Miss Artie. I'm a 30 years young female Yellow-Naped Amazon. I am an excellent talker and will hold a 'conversation' with anyone. I can be a little loud at times but am not usually a screamer. I love to climb around the outside of my cage and chew up any paper or wood toys within my reach. I like to eat Nutriberries and spray millet. My foster mom keeps putting other things on top of them like vegetables and pellets but I just eat around it. Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi Everyone! My name is Beaker and I am a handsome African Grey. My foster mom says I am just a super sweet boy! I do seem to prefer the ladies over the men...what can I say? I know what I like! :) I am very chatty and I just love to whistle and make electronic sounds. I have a blast fooling my foster mom into thinking she has a text message! I imitate the text message tone, she runs to check her phone and it's really me!! Hahahaha! I could do that all day long, it's so much fun!!! I am on a very healthy diet Of Harrison's pellets, chop, fresh fruits, veggies and parrot friendly nuts. Please remember not to feed me peanuts, they aren't ... I also really enjoy a misting bath with a plant mister but I'm not so sure about that shower thing yet...maybe in time. Although *I* already know I am a boy, I went to the vet and it was confirmed. I am also microchipped and have all my previous medical records. Now, more than anything, I would like to find my forever home so I could become part of a permanent family. Is there someone out there who could open up their heart to a handsome guy like me? I just know there is! Maybe it's you? Why don't you come meet and let's find out! Animal ID: RosieUmbrella Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hello! My name is Rosie and I am a very handsome Umbrella Cockatoo in perfect feather condition. I came into the Rescue because my owner passed away. I am about 12 years old and the vet told me that I am actually a male. I am a great eater and I take foods from your hand very gently. I am on a healthy diet of Zupreem pellets and I love fruits and veggies, especially bananas, carrots, and broccoli. I make very cute squeaks and squawks, but I haven't said any words yet. . I am very shy, but I am warming up to my foster mom and dad. My foster mom says that I am much quieter than her other Umbrella Cockatoo but I am still not a good candidate ... (Read More)for apartment or condo living. She also says that I am just an all around sweet bird! I don't mind my foster brothers and sister that include another cockatoo and two dogs. Even the horses outside the window don't scare me! I used to live on a lanai and I love looking out the window. I will step up for my foster family as long as I'm away from my cage, but I also like to hang out on top of my cage while they sit near me. My foster mom and I both think that Rosie is a silly name for a boy. I don't really seem to recognize the name as belonging to me. My foster mom sometimes calls me Reggie, or something that kind of sounds like Rosie. I am hoping that my new forever family will change my name to something more suited to a handsome, young, MALE, cockatoo such as myself after they adopt me! Maybe you would like to come meet me, give me a forever home AND a new name? I would sure like to meet you! Meantime, would you like to send me a 'Welcome to Rescue' gift? Boy would I appreciate it! Animal ID: BogeyBlue & Gold Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! My name is Bogey and I am an 18 year old Blue and Gold Macaw. Before coming to live with my foster mum, I had been in the same home all 18 years of my life. Mum and dad got so busy, that I was ignored for a very long time. Because of that, I don't know how to interact with humans anymore so they decided I would be better off in a home that I could have the attention I deserve, and in turn, learn to love humans again. I like food, and I suggest that when you approach me and offer me your hand in friendship, it has food in it. If it doesn't, well, I hate to admit it, but I might actually bite. But it's easy to keep me from biting, like ... (Read More)I said, just offer me food :) I do scream a little but now I have these fun things called toys I don't feel the urge to scream as much as I use to. Still, I am not suited to condo or apartment living. I wasn't on the best of diets before but my foster mum is sneaking in some healthy pellets. They look kinda boring cause they are not pretty colors but I am beginning to start nibbling on them and they aren't too bad! She cheated just a bit and mixed a little seed in with them and I sure do love that! I am just loving all these fresh veggies I get for my evening meal and my foster mum hasn't found a veggie I won't eat yet. I used to love canned pineapple for snacks but I have been converted to raw almonds, pine nuts... well, really you can give me any type of nut and I will take it right from your hand. My favorite pastime is having long talks with my foster mum from atop my cage. She is pretty tall (she has a kinda funny accent too) but I will bend over and put my face right by hers so we can talk eye to eye. I am so wishing for a forever home so I can become part of a family and feel the love and compassion I have missed for so long. I will need someone with patience, who is willing to work with me and love me unconditionally. I know, in time, I will become that loving, wonderful, companion that I used to be. Won't you please come meet me and see if you could be the person I've been looking for? I just know you are out there, somewhere! While you are making plans to meet me, would you like to send me a gift from my Amazon wish list? I would be so happy and excited to get a gift! Here is the link: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/HM0LC8M9D8IZ/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Thank you so much! Interested in adoption? Rescue Me ID: 16-04-29-00288Umbrella Cockatoo (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Sweet Umbrella Cockatoo. Snowball hatched on May 5th, 2000. She is going to be 16 very soon! Loves ladies, a few guys, but prefers a female human who will give her lots of snuggles under her blankie. She has a large cage with plexiglass feeder and toys. Her diet is pellets, a few seeds, fruit and veggies, plus a few human treats. She loves buttered toast occasionally. Our living situation has changed and she is not a happy girl. Please let me know if you want more info. This parrot is an excellent companion bird. She deserves better than I can offer right now.

Rescue Me ID: 16-01-16-00213Moluccan Cockatoo

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

We got Cody from some people that took him in after his owner was in a fatal car wreck or that is what we were told. They could not handle him. We picked him up cage and all. After numerous hours of work and determination and a few bites I was able to pick him up with a perch. He is still very skittish. As all moluccans he can yell quite loudly. He needs someone who has the time to work with him. He comes with his cage. I also have an African Grey who he loves to pester when he is out of his cage.

Animal ID: ChampMoluccan Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Hi Everyone! My name is Champ and I am a gorgeous young, (under 10 years old) Moluccan Cockatoo. My foster mom says that I am a darling bird with so much personality! I am very friendly! I like all types of people, men, women, and children. I will happily accept head scritches and treats from you, even if I don't know you very well, it's who I am :) Besides people, one of the things I really like is to hang upside down! I will swing and hang that way for hours on end. Another thing I really like is to be under the covers. This makes it very easy for me to be toweled off after my baths, or get my toenails clipped or filed. I am on a healthy ... (Read More)diet of pellets, veggies, grains, meat, eggs and fruit. I love cooked sweet potatoes or yams, organic canned pumpkin (not the pie filling, the real pumpkin), fish, chicken, pork, beef and rice, couscous, cooked legumes, all peppers, and of course fruit (grapes especially). Nuts are my treat of choice though, my favorite is shelled pistachios! YUMMMMMMMMMMMMY!!!! (please don't feed me peanuts, they are not really nuts and they are not good for me) I am a Cockatoo and I do sometimes scream. My foster mom has been working with me on this and I've made great progress but screaming is something I do in the wild and I will never stop completely, it's just what Cockatoos do. Because of this, I am not suited for apartment or condo living and can only be adopted into a single family home. I will make a wonderful family companion. Won't you please come out and meet me and see if we 'click'? I so want to find my forever home. Could it be with you? While I'm waiting to meet you, would you like to send me a gift from my Amazon wish list? I sure would appreciate it! Here is the link: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1T73B31ULTPKB/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope to meet you soon! Hugs and snuggles, Champ PS: Because FPR really wants me to find my forever home and I have been in Rescue for over a year, my adoption fee is 1/2 off! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in Florida
Birds can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.

Parrots mimic humans but do not mimic any other kind of animal in the wild. The use of nonstick cookware can be extremely toxic to parrots living in the home. Exotic birds can live to be over 60 years old.
