Animal ID: BubbaAfrican Grey (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi Everyone! My name is Bubba and I am a soon to be 20-year-old African Grey. I lived with my previous family my whole life until my Dad became ill and now I am in a great foster home with other Greys that I can talk to. I just had my check-up with the vet and he said that I am very healthy and in great plumage. It is believed that I am a male due to my size and head shape. It took me a couple of days to warm up to my new household, but I really like the females in the home and will let them give me scritches and cuddle with me. The men folk are ok if they are giving me food but otherwise I do not like them so much. I even do not mind the ... (Read More)dogs, even when they bark. I am a bit cage defensive and will try to nip your hand if you stick it in my cage; however, my foster Mom is working with me on my cage manners. For now, I do like to sit on my perch on the cage door and when I am ready; I will step up my foster Mom and foster Sister. I talk and can say: 'Hello', 'I Love You', 'Nighty Night Boys' and a few other things my foster Mom has not been able to decipher. I can also mimic several sounds such as the phone-ringing, microwave, smoke alarm and many others. I have great taste in music and will listen to anything from Rock to Classical. I like the music especially when my family is not home with me. I do like to dance with you if the mood suits me. I like my weekly baths and like to be misted on a daily basis. After all, good hygiene is essential. Foster mom says I am a good eater. I like my pellets, and will eat fruits and veggies that they are giving me. I especially like my special treat, millet. Animal ID: ElvisMoluccan Cockatoo (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Hello, my name is Elvis! I'm a 21 year old DNA tested Female Moluccan Cockatoo and a bit of a nudist. Don't let my lack of feathers or my famous name scare you away! I am a shy girl, so it will take some time for me to warm up to you. I used to pluck my feathers a lot and have even had surgery to repair a hole I made in my chest - I will always carry the scar there. My feathers will probably not grow back but I have not been plucking or picking at that scarred area for a long time (many years) and the vet says I am good to go! I would love to be your companion and watch what you are doing, so I can help too. There are quite a few toys in ... (Read More)my cage and playstand that I'm learning to play with. Foster mom lets me watch cartoons but I really enjoy it when we sit on the patio outside with the sun on my feathers. Since I am a 'too, I like to take baths often, as we are very dusty birds. Pellets are the favorite part of my diet and foster mom gives me lots of fresh fruit, veggies, grains and Birdie bread. The vet thinks that some of my feather issues may be partly due to my former diet so that's why I am eating healthier foods now for my 'older years.' I have not met my foster siblings yet but I hear their voices at mealtime and when the whole flock is ready for lights out. We all love to go crazy and squawk our final goodnights to each other, but I am the most quiet of the bunch. I don't talk much during the day but when I do, it is a very soft, little girl voice. If I am frightened, I do scream loud! After all, I am a cockatoo!! I would love to share my life with you if you are willing to be patient with me. I am a good girl and was a beloved family member until my owner got sick. Even though I'm 'middle aged' I have a lot of loving years to give that someone special. Won't you consider giving me the change to let me be a part of your life? Interested in adoption? Rescue Me ID: 14-03-20-00439Cockatiel (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

One male Higgins, and his best friend Eliza (though she thinks she is more than friends). Higgins is about 15, Eliza is about 6. They need a home as my job is requiring me to travel. They are very social, and love company. Higgins is very whistly and loves making cute little songs. Eliza just kind of beeps every now and then. They need to be adopted together, she is VERY unhappy when Higgins is not in view. I would love for them to find someone who can give them the attention and love they deserve. The adopter being able to whistle would make them both very happy!

Hi! My name is Rosie and I was with my first owner for 15 years. My foster Mom says it only took me a few days to warm up to her. I like to ride on your shoulder and will readily step up for my out of cage time and I have quickly adjusted to my foster Mom's routine and schedule. I love to help her when she works at the computer, I will climb on her head! I am not into veggies and fruits too much, but my foster Mom encourages me to try them all the time along with a balanced diet that includes pellets (remember, Quakers should never have seeds!). Animal ID: MangoEclectus (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Hello! My name is Mango. I am 9 years old and of course I am a beautiful female Eclectus Parrot! The vet said that I have a clean bill of health. I am very quiet and I only vocalize maybe 1 time a day, otherwise I like to make clicking and cooing sounds to get your attention and to let you know that I am happy. I do pluck a little, but the vet said I will probably stop once I become more comfortable with all the changes I have been through recently. I am also slowly learning to use my feet more, but I haven't figured out what is with the toys - what are those things for, anyway? I guess I am going to have to learn because my foster Mom ... (Read More)insists on giving them to me! She is also giving me a lot of new, healthy foods, but I really like that part! I am hoping you will come and visit me soon and make me part of your family! UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM: 'I wanted to give you an update about Mango. She went to work with me twice this week and will continue to do this. She seems to really enjoy this. Also I found out that she loves kids. I did not take her out for the kids to hold but she talked a mile a minute as soon as my 3yo and 7yo niece and nephew came last weekend. She just loved them to pieces. She even started talking saying Hello to them and cooing, singing, etc. Yesterday at work she started talking to me as well. I had to record it because I could not believe how much she was talking saying actual words, whistling, and clicking. She is doing so well. She still is plucking some though. Also she allows me to spray her with a water bottle so I have been able to get her little baths a few times. I am taking it slow and making sure it is at a calm time so she doesn't think it is a punishment but that it is fun. Also she grew up with two large dogs that she would walk around with and preen and that she really loved. I also think she is grieving the loss of her family but also her friends the two dogs she spent all her time with. ' Interested in adoption? Animal ID: Bebe & BravoSenegal & Ringneck

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Bebe is a 9 year old male Senegal and Bravo is a 8 yr old male Indian Ringneck. They have been together their whole lives and need to go to the same home together. They love to interact with each other, while they do not share a cage they like to be able to see each other and they like to play and interact with each other during their out of cage time (playtime daily). Sometime Bebe will go into Bravo's cage to hang out with him or vise versa. Bebe steps up readily to come out of his cage and loves to hang upside down, laugh and say his name. He would love to hang out with you and Bravo ALL day if you let him! He also loves to have his ... (Read More)neck rubbed. He enjoys interaction with you or can play happily by himself or with Bravo. Indee is white with turquoise markings, Susie-Q is green and yellow, and Silver Bell (that's me!) is dark blue and gray. Our foster Mom keeps trying to get us to eat these things called pellets along with our normal seed mix, we aren't so sure about those, but she keeps trying! Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Gabby is a 20 year old cockatoo. She is very sweet and good with anyone who is bird friendly. She loves to dance to lady Gagga and is a large personality. I adopted her when her previous owner died. Unfortunately my household was unprepared for her noise level and attention needed everyday. As large birds go she is very sweet and loving. She loves to take walks with me and the dogs twice a day. She also enjoys sitting on the patio talking to the wild birds.

Animal ID: BabySenegal (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Baby is an 8 year old female Senegal parrot. She's a calm and quiet bird like most Senegal species. She'll sit with you on your knee, shoulder or chest. She adores head scratches and will put her head down to receive the scratch offerings. She is independent and enjoys time with her toys. She is strong willed and demands you respect her space. She will come to you when she wants to spend time with you and if you're in the vicinity will hop quite the distance to get on you. We've nicknamed her The Hopper. She's not picky about food and on a healthy diet. Baby would do well in a calm and quiet house. She would not do well to be adopted by a ... (Read More)home with cats or dogs as they scare her. I wouldn't recommend Baby in a household with young children as she will bite fingers or hands that are not welcomed in her cage. She is jealous of other birds, so no physical interactions with other birds. She would do well as an only bird or someone with small birds that aren't interested in human interaction. Baby in every sense is a great companion parrot. The person she picks will have a very loving relationship with a sweetheart of a girl. Interested in adoption?     Jake is a very well behaved blue and gold macaw, in fact, he is the most polite bird I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Animal ID: OliverRed Lored Amazon (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

'OLIVER' aka OLLIE Red Lored Amazon My name is Oliver, Ollie is my nick name. I'm around 33 years young, been an Red Lored Amazon as long as I can remember even though the vet says maybe I have a little bit of Lilac mixed in there somewhere. I was a beach bird and spent most of my time outside even though I have no problem living indoors. I purr like a cat when the vacuum is running and bark like a dog just because I can! I was eating mostly seeds but I'm getting a little more variety here at my new place, pellets with some veggies to compliment my seeds. I'm definitely 'eye candy' and I think I like my foster dad better than I like my new ... (Read More)mom. I tend to have some cage aggression especially towards her. I very much enjoy sitting on dad's shoulder while he's on facebook or while he's walking around the house. I also enjoy sitting high atop my perch observing everything while looking sooooo good! I'll probably need an experienced bird person to be my forever guardian so if you want a beautiful bird with a little bit of attitude I'm the one! Interested in adoption?     Jacob is a sweet and friendly Umbrella Cockatoo. He loves attention and will dance and sing with you or for you! He can also say his name in a variety of voices and loves music and playing with his wooden toys. He does not like men however and will bite them. Jacob is fully feathered and has a great appetite; he is being converted from a seed diet to a diet consisting of a variety of pellets, fresh fruits, veggies and nuts. Animal ID: SnowyUmbrella Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Snowy is 36 years old and came into the rescue from a loving home of 25 years. His owners felt they could no longer provide the attention he needs and made the very difficult decision to have him re-homed. Snowy is a very sweet and loving Cockatoo, he loves to snuggle and give kisses. He is a little hesitant at first but with a little nudging will step up for just about anyone, once you pick him up he is a Cuddle Bug! He does get a little jealous of others when his chosen person is around though (he may bite if someone gets too close to him and his chosen person). Snowy makes the sweetest coos and occasionally will laugh with the family, he ... (Read More)is very vocal and will carry on his own funny little conversations.... in his very own language! Like most U2's, he will scream if he feels that he is not getting enough attention. Snowy does pluck his abdominal/chest area but his feathers do still grow back as the follicles are not destroyed. We have not seen him pluck since he came into the foster home, so hopefully they will grow back. He enjoys being outside sitting on the 'front porch swing'. Snowy loves his greens and currently eats Roudybush pellets with fresh fruits and vegetables with some nuts. Please remember that this species of bird can live to be 80 years or older and needs a lot of attention on a daily basis. Snowy will make a great addition to your family and still has many years left to devote to you!!! Interested in adoption? Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Stella is a beautiful Bare Eyed Cockatoo who is believed to be around 7-10 years old. She is a DNA sexed female and she is very healthy and fully feathered. She is visual - she LOVES to see new things. Toys are awesome and the brighter the better! She whistles with you and loves to dance. If the radio or TV is on and there is a beat, she will start bobbing her head - she loves to spin and dance. Animal ID: ReaganSevere Macaw (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Reagan is a DNA tested female, 8 year old Severe Macaw. Her DOB is 8/19/2004. She was previously adopted, but unfortunately, on occasions, birds are returned to rescue (which is why we have such strict adoption contracts). Reagan was returned to us because she became extremely tightly bonded to one person in the home and began to bite and attack the other person, she also began to constantly vocalize in an effort to seek constant attention after being doted on, due to this fact, all of this has been a little confusing for Reagan but a soft voice and a confident arm will win her over quickly. She will need to be adopted to someone who ... (Read More)understands macaws as well as positive reinforcement and is willing to work with her to be handleable with everyone in the home as she is otherwise, a very affectionate and easygoing bird. She is very playful and loves to clown around with her bell. She says 'hot', 'hello' and 'hi' but does not speak often until she is very comfortable with you. Before coming to rescue she had always lived in the same home and was not well socialized, so initially she is frightened of new surroundings, but she comes around quick with confident people. She is in beautiful feather and is currently eating Higgins Sunburst and Tropican pellets. She is a little hesitant on chop and other fruits and veggies, but we will continue to work with her on diet. Reagan is inquisitive and affectionate, a dream companion for someone who appreciates and understands the personality of the mini macaw! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: JojoMoluccan Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is JoJo and I'm a well behaved cockatoo that loves to explore! I adore finding shiny and reflective things because I get to see myself and make kissy noises. I need a large home with playgyms and maybe even an aviary. I love waking up to supervise making omelettes in the morning and will stay on my perch so long as I get to 'help' by eating some of the veggies you throw in (I like the peppers!). I would also like some of that omelette when it's done cooking, please. If you ever are eating something you have to share! Just make sure it's birdy healthy. I've been told that male Moluccan Cockatoos like to chew, and it's true! ... (Read More)Make sure to have a couple of 2x4's and a drill press ready to make toys! My foster mom is pretty sure I'm a boy because of the kind of affection I give to my rope toys. I can whistle and I have even wolf-whistled a few times! I have learned that whistling is better than screaming and will whistle in the morning when I need to be fed. Make sure to whistle back, it's polite! Most of my history is unknown and I've been said to be over 30 years old. I dislike quick movements so I don't think small children would be good around me. I've been with a couple other foster parents and have been told I don't get along with other birds, so I had to go to a foster home where there were no others. I was scared of hands and didn't know how to step up a couple months ago. Mommy doesn't want my new home to make the mistakes other people have made, so I come with free handling lessons by a trained profession - my foster Mommy! You may be surprised with what you learn! Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Bandit is a 20-25 year old Blue & Gold Macaw who came to us recently from an emergency intake of several birds out of the same home. While Bandit is obviously missing quite a few feathers (that most likely will not grow back), she has been given a clean bill of health by our vet. She does need more bathes and a better diet to eventually improve the condition of the remaining feathers, but we are working on that J She is loving her new pellet blend diet along with lots of fresh veggies, fruit and nuts. She especially loves bananas! While she is not yet easily handleable, she shows a keen interest in interaction and is showing a lot of ... (Read More)improvement in the short time she has been with us. She has a wonderfully clear speaking voice and can say 'Hello', 'Goodbye' and she quacks like a duck, she is very funny! The previous owner said she likes to bite you and then say 'ouch', but we have not witnessed this behavior while she has been with us. Bandit has huge, soulful eyes and we feel that with time, patience and an owner understanding of macaw behavior, she will become a great companion! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: BaileyBlue & Gold Macaw (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Senior

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Bailey is a 50 year old Blue & Gold Macaw. Her appearance comes at a shock at first, but this little lovely really grows on you quickly! She is easy to handle once she trusts you, she does need some socialization and just a little work to gain that trust. She is very active and alert and is a fantastic eater. She loves her new diet of mixed pellets, veggies and some fruits and nuts; she is not picky at all. She seems to really enjoy being around other birds (multiple birds came out of the same home as her, and while not bonded to them, she prefers company). We have not yet heard Bailey speak, but we were told she says a few things such ... (Read More)as 'help', 'hello', 'Bye Bye' and 'step up'. When we first received her, she was an active plucker; however, we are happy to report there has been no more plucking. However, she will most likely remain naked as it appears she has damaged her feather follicles and feathers will not be able to grow in most places - although she does already have a couple of new little sprouts! So if you think you can love a nudist, please consider adopting Bailey! While she is 50, she has many, many years of love to give you! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: Ziggy & RickieTAG & BFA Pair Bonded (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

UPDATE: Rickie and Ziggy here. We're still looking for our forever home. Will you be the one to give it to us? Our foster mom says we're fabulous birds - no feather picking or other unusual behaviors. We're healthy eaters and just love, love, love the caitec food we get with our other pellets. That's the first thing we chow down on. We're good with veggies, fruits (especially grapes) and chop. Rickie loves to whistle and sing with you. She also says 'good' and 'careful'. Typical Zon - she'll step up if she wants to and is reserved until she gets to know you. Ziggy loves to carry on whole conversations when she doesn't think you're ... (Read More)listening and has a whole series of words, clicks and whistles she uses. The two of us would love to share your spare time. Give us a call if you're interested. These two girls are very funny! Ziggy talks up a storm when she doesn't think you're listening. I t sounds like she's scolding someone and then you'll hear 'C'mon', 'here', 'pretty girl', 'whatcha doin'', 'hi Ziggy', 'Who's your daddy' and a couple of other words very clearly. Morning and evening are her best talking times. She and Rickie like to visit on Rickie's cage. Rickie is more dependent on Ziggy than the other way around. Rickie still doesn't like to step up when she's on her cage but is getting very good at whistling and dancing. Loves to whistle part of 'row, row, row your boat' and dances in a circle when her foster mom bobs her head and whistles. She also likes to talk and is starting to say 'hello' and 'careful' - hard to understand but she'll repeat these words several times if you say them back to her. They have both been converted over to a pellet diet and can't get to their food fast enough in the morning. Ziggy bounces back and forth from foot to foot and Rickie will pull the door of her cage shut to maneuver her way to her food. Very funny! They love almonds, grapes and sometimes chop, as well as scrambled eggs! ZIGGY: Well, to start with, I'm a happy, social girl - now that I've settled in to my foster home and know the routine, I love to spend time helping make our food and just generally hanging with my foster mom. I'm a little cage aggressive, but getting better every day. My foster mom hears 'Ziggy - who's your daddy?' and laughs a lot so she must be amused. I've progressed from a seed diet to partial pellets and partial nutriberries. I love pistachio nuts and fruit (grapes, mostly) and my foster Mom is introducing me to fresh vegetables too. I also love my baths with warm misting water. I don't particularly like being scratched but am learning the 'touch' language - happy voice with a 'touch' sound. I'm a happy girl who whistles and talks. I'm probably about 12 years old and a Timneh African Grey. RICKIE: I'm a very sweet girl - 12 years young and a pretty blue-fronted Amazon. I'm very shy - it's taken my foster mom a while to be able to be near me so I don't scramble on to the top of my cage. She likes to talk with me and whistle and I'm learning 'Row, row, row your boat' and 'Frere Jacques'. I can't whistle them all yet but I'm working on it. I'm pretty quiet although I do like to talk to myself. I'm still on a seed diet but have graduated to a good one (and I am sure my Mom will keep hounding me about trying pellets) and my foster mom is going to make some chop for me to try. I'm a very picky eater but if the chop is good, I'll eat it. I'm very quiet - I talk to myself a lot - but don't scream or carry one. If you have the patience and love for a girl like me and my best friend Ziggy, please think about adopting us! Interested in adoption? Animal ID: Nikki & ZacharyYellow Naped Amazon

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

This bonded pair of thirty-something Amazons are characters! Nicky is a Double Yellow Headed and Zachary is a Yellow Naped. These birds' original owner (male) passed away many years ago and his parents have since provided a loving home. Nicky & Zack just love vocal human interaction and will talk and laugh your ears off! Each has a large vocabulary and an assortment of whistles and songs that will always keep you entertained. They have always been each others' best friend and don't require much maintenance other than their food , water and a loving home. Due to some balance issues, both are adjusting to new perches and also new ... (Read More)foster home, so they are a little timid about leaving their room and going outdoors. Since they have not been handled much over the years, both are re- learning to step up, and prefer hanging out on top of their cages during the day. At times, Zack seems to want to interact more with a human, so he may know some tricks we haven't seen yet. They will let you know when they awake, as they begin their chatter as soon as they see the morning light. They enjoy fruits, veggies, grains and nuts and happily eat pellets throughout the day. Not screamers, these two will chatter amongst themselves most of the time. Morning and late afternoon vocalizations are normal and may be a little loud for some. Not sure how these two would react to children or other pets, as they are older birds and are still somewhat unpredictable. If you are looking to have some company with a pair of spunky old timers with some good times to share with you, won't you give Nicky and Zack a chance to find their forever home? Animal ID: KizmetHanh's Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Baby

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Kizmet is a four year old Hahn's Macaw. As you can see, when he first came to rescue, he had stripped feather shafts (he didn't pluck, but would actually strip the shaft of the feathers). You can see that he is no longer over grooming as much as he once was and with more time and a continued improved diet, his feather condition will also improve. He also enjoys taking showers with me now! Kizmet is a typical Hahn's, he can be a little pushy and is always trying to get into trouble (tried to eat my pencil, my keyboard, the mouse, the buttons on my shirt, my cup, my phone, the remote, etc... obviously he likes to chew on things and will need ... (Read More)A LOT of toys at all times and to have them changed out often for variety!) but he is a VERY nice bird! Like most macaws, he picks one person in the home he likes and does not want anyone else to handle him. Once he trusts you (he is slow to trust, so you have to be patient with him), he will step up for you and will try to steal food off of your plate! Once he chooses you, he is very trusting, you can do anything with him and he is comfortable with it. He will eat pellets and almonds, but so far doesn't seem interested in fruits and vegetables, unless you hand feed him, the spoiled little brat! Kizmet can talk a little; he says 'Hello' and makes various clicks that he likes you to repeat back to him. He also laughs A LOT! Kizmet does want A LOT of human companionship; he would like to be out of his cage and with you 24/7! Kizmet seemed a little scared of dogs and cats at first, but he has now gotten used to them and seems fine around them, other birds also do not bother Kizmet. Hahn's macaws are the smallest of the Mini macaws, measuring about 12-14 in length, but they have all the sass of the big boys! Hahn's can live to be 40-50 years old, so if you decide to adopt Kizmet, he would be a lifelong companion! (Less)

Hello, my name is Navin, I am a Yellow Naped Amazon and this is my best friend Barney, he is an Orange Winged Amazon. We have been together our entire life (more than 25 years) and we like to talk to each, however I say more English words then he does. He says 'Hi' but I say 'Hello', 'What cha doing?', and 'You wanna come out?' I also say 'Here Kitty Kitty Kitty' even though there is no cat in our home. I will step up occasionally, but Barney doesn't like to although he is friendly. Animal ID: Crash & BoomerQuaker Parakeet

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Birds
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Crash and Boomer are bonded to each other and must be adopted together. These two are absolutely adorable and with very clear, sweet little voices. They will talk to you and love talking to each other. They will imitate animal sounds, dog barks, cat purrs and chicken clucks. They preen each other, feed each other and protect each other. Both are in excellent health, fully feathered and always animated . Crash was a wild Quaker that sustained a permanent wing injury 5-6 years ago when he was hit by a car. We don't know Crash's age, vet estimates 7-10 years old. Crash won't come to you unless you have Boomer out first. Boomer is 4 years old, ... (Read More)previous owner purchased him as a baby to be a friend for Crash. Boomer is the tamer one and very sweet when he is away from Crash. From the cage: They will both step unto your hand if you drap a hand towel over your hand. I don't know why they are comfortable with it, but it works really good. When away from the cage they will both step up on your fingers. They don't have a preference for men or women, they will go to either. They love taking showers, will sit on the shower perch and enjoy the spray bottle or a little splash from the shower head. They are good eaters, not too picky. Sometimes they get a little competitive over the food cup. So we'll put in 2 cups one on the other side. Boomer is the one that likes human interaction. If you take him out alone, you can give him kisses and scratches. Crash doesn't let anyone touch and when they are out together, he tries to position himself between you and Boomer. Both are very good talkers and extremely intelligent. They will say goodbye when they know you're leaving and when you cover them at night, then leave the room. We have them trained to understand the word "perch" means to go inside their cage. This is a nightly routine for them, they are really good boys. Boomer is a strong flier, so he will need to get his wings clipped frequently. If you have other birds or animals, he will fly over to them which can be harmful to him. He's a little explorer. Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Hi there- my name is Zoey, I am a male Bare-eyed cockatoo. I am a cute, cunning little fellow. My Foster Mom is working with me to improve my diet. I love chop but am having a hard time finding a pellet that I will eat, I prefer junk so she is trying to get me to eat the good stuff. I hadn't been handled much from my previous owner, maybe it is because I bite. I am stick trained and don't mind being moved to my play stand via this method. Animal ID: CharlieSulfur Crested Cockato

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Charlie is a sulfur crested cockatoo. He has always been called a 'he' but his sex is unknown as is his species. He is either a small medium sulfur crested or a hybrid of a lesser sulfur and a medium. Life hasn't always been easy for Charlie. In the first home we are aware of he was attacked by a pair of macaws. They destroyed his upper mandible. It has partially grown back, but his sinuses are still exposed and always will be. It hasn't inhibited him though from being active or from eating. He may not be able to crack a walnut, but he readily eats most anything else without assistance. His beak does however require trimming every four weeks ... (Read More)in order to keep from growing too long. If this isn't done it makes eating difficult and will cause it to become thin and brittle as well. Charlie's next home was with a well meaning person who took in more birds than she could handle. Compounded by the owner's poor health he was soon living in unhealthy conditions. The home was crowded and the air toxic. Now Charlie is living in foster care and having a blast. He loves to play with toys that he can stash in his boxes, and will actually unscrew toys hung from the top of the cage to add to his stash. He loves his foster mom. His foster dad? Well, not so much. Other birds? Again, not so much. Actually poor Charlie is rather anti social and seems to strongly bond to one person and one person only. He's extremely smart and is an escape artist. Charlie may not be perfect in appearance or behavior, but if you are looking for a challenge and are female he is worth the effort. To the one he chooses he is very loving and sweet. Interested in adoption? Animal ID: PeterRed Lored Amazon (male)

Pet Bird

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

'PETER' Red Lored Amazon Hello F.P.R friends, family and visitors. My name is Peter and I am a Red Lored Amazon. I can speak very well%BD I say 'hello', 'Peter', 'Peter good boy', 'Peter pretty bird', 'pretty bird', 'Yo', and whistle different tunes. I whistle for your attention, but if you don't respond, I will make my birdie noises. I also make very interesting, but funny sounds that will keep you entertained. I have been enjoying my new toys, ladder and perches. I have my own room and love to check out what's in it. I am a very curious bird, so I look like I'm spying to make sure I don't miss anything. I really enjoy the company of ... (Read More)people, human interaction, cartoons and music. I love when people talk to me in a baby voice, it just tickles me all over and I start entertaining the crowd... and trust me I can entertain you for a long time! When the other birds come to my room I show off to let them know I want to play, but they just stare at me and watch me play with all my toys. When I hear the other birds talking I try to keep up by mocking or whistle. My annual check-up went very well - I've been changed from seeds to a pellet diet and took to the change very well, and I eat fruits and vegetables throughout the day. I love being hand-fed different nuts and especially love almonds! If my foster mom would let me eat nuts all day...I would...I go coo coo for nuts:) I like watching what's happening outside my window and when the sun starts going down and I'm still out of my cage, I will put myself in the cage and close the door for bedtime. I'm a joy to be around, but I don't like people holding me (I cry and try to fly away... unless you have a nut for me). With time and the right person, I will learn to relax when people want to hold me. However, I am in the process of being stick trained. I get along with women, men, children and other birds. So if you have time, patience and want a forever companion, a bundle of entertainment and happiness, come check me out!!! Interested in adoption? Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Well, Kiki is now 27 years old - she thinks bald is beautiful and continues to pluck. She has a great appetite and will eat just about anything you give her. We've found out that she's had a broken wing in the past and will never be able to fly. That doesn't stop her from walking around - she loves to be outside with you and will sit on the back of a chair or follow you around the yard. Kiki also loves to make sure the dogs get their daily dose of bird food - she'll fling her pellets out of the dish just to see the dogs scramble for them. 'Hello' in its many variations continues to be her favorite word although sometimes she'll say a ... (Read More)couple of other words. Kiki is very social but not clingy - she likes to be part of the team but is also fine by herself. She has laid several eggs in the past year so her foster mom covers her cage at night and makes sure that she gets almost equal amounts of light and dark. This has helped to stop the egg laying. Kiki is a great bird - not a screamer and steps up very easily. She doesn't really interact with the other birds and would probably be fine with another bird, but she is definitely the boss! Animal ID: ChampMollucan Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Champ is a real character and has never met a person he did not like. He has a wonderful disposition and is a real 'velcro' bird. Champ would hang out with you all day long if you let him, he just needs time to get used to you and any people need to go very slow with him. He did not come to us from an ideal situation and he has some insecurities because of that. He is however a typical Cockatoo and can be LOUD when he is feeling ignored, but for the most part, he is a fairly quiet bird, for a cockatoo anyway! As you may have noticed, Champ does not have tail feathers and he will not grow any (we call him the buttless wonder!). He had a wound ... (Read More)in that area which has long since healed but destroyed all follicles, however, all the plumbing works just fine! Champ has been converted to a healthy diet of pellets, fresh vegetables and fruit. He enjoys nuts as treats. He will try anything you offer. He is especially fond of sweet potatoes. Champ WILL NOT do well in a home with other cockatoos, he does like being around other birds, but NOT other cockatoos. He also does not like to be around other birds that are very loud. He is fine with other animals though, such as dogs. He is fine with men or women, but he does prefer men. PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in Florida
Birds can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.

Parrots mimic humans but do not mimic any other kind of animal in the wild. Most captive birds are unable to find a permanent home and experience some kind of abuse or neglect in their lifetimes. Exotic birds can live to be over 60 years old.
