Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Fun, loving cockatiel needs a good home. He whistles beautifully when happy. We live in a small condo and can no longer keep him. Sunny was originally a class bird at Montessori school in an elementary class. We adopted him when nut allergies were discovered in the class 6-7 years ago. Sunny has a companion Georgia with one wing(on the left), she was attacked by raccoons but survived. She gets separation anxiety when not with Sunny. We hope they can go together to a new forever home.

Animal ID: JolieUmbrella Cockatoo (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Jolie and I am about 16 years old. I came into rescue with a prolapsed cloaca which was repaired by an FPR vet. I did prolapse again recently (1.5 years later) and had to have surgery again. It went really well and I have been given a clean bill of health! My foster family says I am small for a U2 - they also say I am very social. I love to be in the same room with my foster family, even if I am just hanging out on my cage. I do tend to call for you if I can't see you, but I quiet down when I realize where you are. I love to have my head scritched and I like to press my face against the cage to get scritches when you ... (Read More)pass by. My foster family says I am really sweet and that I like men and women, although men seem to be my favorite. I do have a large vocabulary, I love to say 'Hi Jolie!' in the morning when my cage is uncovered. I do love eating and I like pellets, vegetables, fruits and healthy nuts. My favorites are apples and bananas! I don't mind other birds, cats, or dogs, just please be careful if other species of animals are around so that I remain safe and unharmed. Pet Bird

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi my name is Apollo and I'm a Blue Indian ringneck. I was brought to the rescue missing all my chest and neck feathers, I was really bored and plucked them out. Now in my foster home I have lots of cool toys to play with and tons of love and attention. My feathers are even starting to recover, although they may never grow back fully my vet said it's possible. I'm on a fantastic diet now of fresh veggies, pellets, and some fruit and nuts. This diet is aiding in my feathers condition tremendously. I'm what you would call a 'Foodie', I love to eat, I steel food if given the chance. I'm super friendly and love to give kisses. I'll even kiss ... (Read More)inanimate objects and your feet too! My foster parents say I'm a morning bird and will let you know when the sun is up. I'm not too loud though and never become a nuisance. I love to cheep all day and give my toys smooches. I really hope you come visit me very soon - I want a family all my very own! (Less)

Animal ID: El Capitan & NapoleonCockatiels Pair (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi everyone! Our names are El and Napoleon. We are a pair of bonded cockatiels and brand new to FPR! We were not handled very much before coming into the rescue, so we are a little timid when humans reach into our cage. However, our foster mom is teaching us that humans can be fun - and they give the BEST head scritches! El (yellow) loves to whistle in the morning and will say 'What cha doing?', 'Good morning!', 'Good birdie', and a bunch of other chatter that our foster home hasn't quite figured out yet. While El is a little more independent, I (Napoleon) am a little more insecure and very reliant on El's companionship. Even still, our ... (Read More)foster home thinks I will end up being the affectionate one because I loves to give kisses, scritches, and I like to inspect your body for jewelry. We are still adjusting to this stuff called 'chop' and these weird 'pellet' thingies. We were used to an all seed diet, so we are learning to try new things! I did came into the rescue with an infection, so we're not quite ready for adoption yet, I have to finish my meds first, but you can still go ahead and put an application in on us! We will update you all on our progress as I get better. Oh, and thank you again to Theresa Packard for the cage, toys, and food! We are loving all our new stuff! (Less)

Animal ID: LuigeBlack Headed Caique

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Hello my name is Luige and I am a Black Headed Caique. I am about 5 years old and as you can see I am gorgeous! I am very independent and prefer to do my own thing. I often entertain my foster mom and make her laugh, I am quite the character! When she comes home I greet her with whistles and I love when she opens the door and I am able to come out at my leisure. I don't really talk but I make a lot of sounds and whistles. I sleep all night without problem but prefer to go to bed by about 8:30ish and I like my cage covered. I may complain for about 5-10 min but then I am quiet all night. I don't really like to be touched but I will step up ... (Read More)if I fly to the floor, but my foster Mommy is working with me on that. I do a lot of fun things that gives my foster mom something to watch like sliding around the bottom of my cage on my back, doing back flips on the corners of the cage, hanging upside down, and playing with my toys. When I am out of my cage all my foster mom has to do is say go back to you cage, let's go goodnight and wave her fingers/hand toward the door and I will fly back from my play gym or if I am on my cage I will go right back into my cage. I don't always like people messing with my cage if I am in it but once I see what you are doing I am ok with it. I love when my foster mom cleans my cage or around my cage (since I do make a mess) and I whistle at her the whole time to let her know how much I appreciate it. I also travel well once I am in my travel cage. I have made a few trips with her and I don't mind being in the car. I also enjoy looking out the front window from my cage. I love to eat'| sometimes I am picky but I like most fruits, roudybush pellets, and will try most things, so my foster Mom is working with me on vegetables as that part of a diet is more important than fruits. If I don't like what you give me, I will just throw it out of my cage or to the bottom of the cage (my foster Mom keeps trying anyway though, lol!). I take baths in my water dish so it needs to be changed at least two times a day and I really enjoy my spray downs with a water bottle. I love to be around people. My previous owner had dogs and when my friend brought over dogs I got really excited, but just remember that you have to be careful when other species are around, you have to make sure I am safe and that there is no physical contact. Kids are ok for a little while as long as they are not running around being kids, I much prefer adults though. Won't you let me join your family? I would love to bring some joy into your home. My foster mom will be sad to see me leave but she wants me to have a forever family. So please come meet me very soon! (Less)

Hello! My name is Kiki and my best friend is Gigi. I am an Umbrella Cockatoo and Gigi is a Goffins Cockatoo. We are bonded and must be adopted together. I love to talk and I can say 'I love you' 'hello' and 'mamma'. I also love to dance with the little people in my new foster home and I like to also whistle along with my favorite songs. My foster Mom says that my friend Gigi has a big personality. She is very friendly and loves to dance and receive head scritches (on her terms only, of course - she is a cockatoo, after all!). She does over groom on her feathers just a bit, but our foster Mom is working with her on that. Gigi is also ... (Read More)pretty vocal, so we are working on that, too. Our foster family has decided that we need a diet change and so they have been feeding us these things called pellets and we are also getting lots of fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, and healthy nuts (remember, no peanuts for parrots!).     Hello! My name is Bruiser and I am a 12 year old Orange Wing Amazon. I have never been outside of my cage, so this new found freedom I am getting at my foster home has been a new experience to say the least, but I am starting to get used to it - and I LIKE IT! Since I have never been handled though I am really scared of hands and I do bite, but my foster family is working with me to overcome this fear. Due to my previous poor (seed) diet, I am currently on a low-fat pellet diet and my foster family is working with me to improve my eating habits. So far I am making quick advances with this new diet and my favorites include fresh fruits, ... (Read More)vegetables, chili peppers, and healthy nuts like almonds and pistachios (remember, no peanuts for parrots!). I do also like to talk A LOT and when I get too excited, you can calm me down by singing to me - I personally prefer the song "You are my Sunshine". I also love to play with my toys and I love watching the dog and cat in my foster home - I like to talk to them. Of course you have to be careful with other animal around to not allow physical contact for my safety. Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Meet little Miss Sassy Pants. She is a sweet and adorable little Senegal Parrot who is approximately 12 years old, with proper care Sassy could life well into her 30's. Don't let her size fool you; Senegal Parrots have all the personality and fearlessness of a much bigger parrot. Unfortunately it is this boldness, which is what landed her with us. Sassy Pants came into rescue because her former mother 'upgraded' to a Blue and Gold Macaw and sadly Miss Sassy didn't like this one bit and so she started picking at her feathers. She was very jealous of the new addition to the family and would try to attack the Macaw. As a result, she was ... Sassy is one of those birds that are very happy and content on her own with a variety of toys and also with her favorite person. She is a relatively quiet for a Parrot, with lots of little peeps and whistles when she wants attention. She absolutely LOVES head scratches; her tummy tickled. Sassy was hand reared and was also weaned by previous caregiver. She will thrive well as an only bird as she is extremely bonded to humans and does not like other birds so much, especially large birds. She seems to prefer women. Sassy's adoption fee is $200.00. Animal ID: LuluQuaker Parakeet

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi, my name is Lulu and I am a female Quaker parrot. I think I am about 10 years old because my owner found me in her tree about 8 years ago and my vet said I looked to be a couple of years old at that time. I am very beautiful and fully feathered. My new foster Mom said I am a good girl and am not very cage aggressive the way most Quaker parrots can be. Although I won't bite you, I do have a habit of holding onto my cage with my beak if you try to take me off it. I think it's funny. In fact, you can handle me just about any way you want to without getting bit. I very much enjoy head scratches and belly rubs. I have a little problem with one ... (Read More)foot which is not very noticeable, so I don't step up very well. . The FPR veterinarian said I either have a neurological issue or an old injury, but either way it is nothing that can be fixed, but that is OK, I am used to it and I get around my cage very well. I will sit with you and cuddle or stay on top of my cage, but I definitely like being out of my cage and in the middle of the action. My foster Mom is introducing me to chop and fruits and veggies. I already like my pellets, but I am not really crazy about the "good diet" yet. I used to love traveling in the motor home with my previous family and my fur brother, but my Mom became ill and the doctor said it would be better for her health if she found a new home for me. Would you like to meet me and see for yourself how cuddly I can be? If you would like to say "welcome into rescue" to Lulu the Quaker Parrot, you can purchase her a welcome gift on her amazon wish list at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1KY7ZFK4DTOPL/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_o? Animal ID: Peanut & PunkinEclectus Parrots (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Punkin and my best friend is Peanut. We are a bonded pair of Eclectus parrots and we must be adopted together. I was born on October 19, 2008 and Peanut was born on July 31, 2005. Yes, I date an older man, don't judge! We are both friendly birds who give kisses and will step up for anyone. We are also very quiet and we are just fine with other pets in the home and we even like kids. We both like to take showers and we love shredding toys. We LOVE LOVE LOVE chop and we also like almonds, pecans, and walnuts as treats. Peanut will do anything for a treat - he is such a suck up (eye roll). He will follow you around ... (Read More)until he gets the treat, he can also be a bit mischievous and has been caught eating homework and trying to get into things he should not - so you have to watch him. I, of course am the perfect lady though, I mind my p's and q's! Peanut does like to talk and he can say Peanut, Birdie, Pretty Bird, Are you a good boy, Hmmmmmmm, Apple, Whats the matter, Good Morning, Bird over there, Whatcha doing, Hi there, Hello there, Step Up, Come here, and the list goes on and on, he just loves to be the center of attention! As you can see we have both chosen to be partial nudists. While we just recently came into rescue, we have not yet stopped plucking, but our foster Mom is working on that with us. Our foster Mom says we are wonderful birds though and we would really love for you to come and meet us very soon! If you would like to welcome this gorgeous pair into rescue, you can send them a gift from their amazon wish list at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3TABA3LRLVZ2F/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_o? Animal ID: BluNanday Conure

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Blu and I am a Nanday Conure. My foster Mom says that I am one of the coolest conures she has ever met - well, I do have to admit that she is right! I came from my previous home never leaving my cage for almost three years because there were kitties there that my Mom thought may want to eat me, so she sent me to Florida Parrot Rescue to find a home where I can spread my wings! I LOVE being out of the cage and my foster Mom says I am VERY sweet. I am a typical conure, I can be loud when I want your attention or if you do something I do not like, and sometimes I do display some cage aggression. However, my foster Mom is ... (Read More)working with me on that and she says I am already getting much better. I like to sit on your shoulder and give you kisses and I love to groom you. I love getting kisses in return (on the top of the beak, of course, so you don't give me any germs or bad bacteria!). I also love to whistle and can make all kinds of sounds. My foster Mom is in the process of converting me to a healthier diet without seeds, but with healthy pellets, fresh vegetables, some fruits, and healthy nuts. She says that I am doing very well with the conversion. My favorites so far are blueberries, carrots, and any greens. The vet says I am very healthy and one of the nicest birds he has ever met, too! So please come meet me soon, I would love to have a home of my own with a loving family who will give me tons of attention and love! I can't wait to met you! Interested in adoption?     Hello! My name is Fuzzy and I arrived at Florida Parrot Rescue by plane all the way from North Carolina. I am 20 years old and I am a Catalina Macaw. I was once diagnosed with Aspergillosis, but thanks to my caring family and a wonderful veterinarian, I overcame that nasty sickness. I am currently on a special diet of Harrison's lifetime pellets with lots of fresh veggies and some fresh fruits. As you can see, I have over-groomed my feathers but they are starting to fill in now. My foster dad is teaching me that human companionship can be fun and entertaining. I can also talk! I speak lots of words very clearly but I am shy about it. ... (Read More)I like to play games and I also like to drum on my perch or cage while I wait for you to repeat the sound on another object. I am quiet most of the time, but I am a macaw so I can have my moments. I really love being in the same room as you, even if I am only watching you - I also like to watch TV with you or help you work on your computer. As you can see, I am an all around super guy and I just know that if you come and meet me that you will love me and want to take me home to be part of your family - so will you come for a visit soon??     Hi, Skippy here, and I would like to update you on my progress in my foster home. My foster parronts say I am very entertaining. I have telephone conversations all the time and like to join in on yours too. I love being out of my cage but I don't mind being in the cage either. I love my toys and it doesn't take this beak long to tear up a piece of wood! I am sharing my foster home with 3 other parrots and 3 small dogs and I don't mind one bit (of course we are not let out with the dogs - you have to be very careful of parrots around other parrots and other species of animals - no physical contact!). I am even teaching my Quaker roommate some ... (Read More)words to add to his vocabulary. I am adding things to my repertoire either with new words and sounds or old ones that are finally coming out as I get used to my surroundings. One of my favorite things to say is 'hello, wanna come over?' And I mimic conversations but you can only hear mumbling. I am not really loud most of the time, but I do like to call for a couple people from my past and I always greet you with a cheery 'Hello' when you come in the door. I also try to sing Amazing Grace which my foster family gets a kick out of. My feathers were not in good shape when I came into Florida Parrot Rescue, but my new diet is helping to make them much prettier. I think I am gorgeous anyway! I still am unsure whether I am a boy or girl because I lived as a boy for all of my life, but the Vet thinks I am a girl. I heard my foster mom say that she thinks I am okay with men and women, but my foster Dad is the only one who can reach in my cage when he needs to. So far I am not a cuddly bird, but we will see as I get to know my forever family. Won't you give this stunning 'middle-aged' feathered beauty a chance. I'm waiting for your call. Regards, Skippy. Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive

Hi. My name is Journey and I am an approximately 15 yr old blue and gold macaw. They call me a boy but the doctor hasn't confirmed it. My foster mom gave me this name because I didn't have a name prior to coming here. I also never came out of my cage. Don't worry though; life isn't too shabby nowadays. I try to talk and am learning that being vocal isn't a bad thing but a way of expressing myself. I eat healthy nuts and am in the final stages of a full conversion from seed to pelleted diet. I am still a little uneasy with interacting with people but as you can see by my photos my foster mom is working on it because the world is a big and ... (Read More)scary place outside of my cage! I am also learning how to play with toys because I love shredding newspaper on the bottom of my cage! My foster mom bought me a shred ball and I love it! I am OK with dogs being around - I am curious of them. I seem to like my foster mom over my foster dad but only by a little. I am working on being handled by humans as they haven't really interacted with me that much in my life, but I get lots of almonds and fruit for doing it so I am learning to gently take it from hands while in my cage because my cage is my safe place. I am pretty quiet for a macaw but come near my house and I will scream to let my family know! No need for an industrial alarm here! I am not the bird for someone who doesn't have big parrot experience as I have not been interacted with a lot until recently.     Are you looking for a fun loving, big parrot personality in a smaller package? Well, maybe that could be me!!!!! HELLO THERE! My name is Sunny and I am a beautiful Sun Conure. Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Abigail - or Abby for short - and I am a gorgeous 8 year old Umbrella cockatoo. My foster Mom says I am something called an escape artist and of course I do also like to chew on things - I am a cockatoo, after all!!! I LOVE to chew on household stuff if you are not careful, so you have to make sure to keep an eye on me at all times and to make sure you provide me with LOTS and LOTS of chewing/wooden toys. I am also really outgoing - a social butterfly if you will! I don't mind other animals being around and even though Florida Parrot Rescue was told I only prefer women, I have warmed up to men now - so really it just ... (Read More)depends on who you are - you will have to meet me to find out if we get along ;) I should not be in a home with young children though. If I do choose you as a friend, then I like to love on you all the time - I love cuddling and I love swinging from your hand, but watch out about over-bonding with me - if I get too bonded to one person I might not be nice to other people in the home, so please make sure you know how to handle positive reinforcement with cockatoos so this does not happen if I come to live with you. Of course I am also very vocal (again, I am a cockatoo!), so this is another reason you should know all about how to use positive reinforcement. I sometimes mumble as well and I like to say 'I love you, Abigail', 'hi' and some other things my foster family has not quite figured out yet. My foster Mom is also trying to get me to try new foods, I sort of like those pellets, but I will keep working on that part, she say's I am picky - whatever, Mom!     My name is Harollette and I am an 8 year old Severe Macaw. I am a good bird who strongly prefers men. I would do best with a single male or at least a male as my primary caregiver. I am a great talker and my foster parents are still finding out new things I say every day. I eat a variety of food well but my foster Dad is working on converting me to a healthy diet of pellets, vegetables and fruits and by the way, I LOVE nuts as treats - only healthy nuts though like pistachios and almonds - no peanuts! Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Blue and I am a gorgeous 24 year old Blue and Gold Macaw. I came to Florida Parrot Rescue from a family where I was a one-person companion, but my owner passed away. I had been with my 'one family' my whole life from the time I was a hand-fed baby with no feathers to now, 24 years later. I miss my Mom - but her constant love over the years made me the confident, beautiful, and majestic parrot you see now. Sometimes I do lunge and may bite people I do not know, but that is something I am working on with my FPR foster family - I just need to be able to trust you is all! In general, I am very mild tempered and usually not ... (Read More)very vocal. I used to lays eggs frequently, but since coming into foster care I have not laid any at all, which is a good thing - these FPR folks know what they are doing and they know how to avoid chronic egg laying which could be dangerous for my health. My new foster Mom is currently working on adding pellets, fresh fruits, vegetables, and healthy nuts to my daily diet. I am used to eating peanut butter, cooked pasta, and pizza crust....but my foster mom said she is not going to spoil me with junk food, so we have to work on that healthy food thing she keeps talking about. My foster Mom says I am a very loving parrot, so please consider coming to meet me, all I want is to be back in a real home with new parronts to be loved once again by my very own family!     Hi everyone, my name is Zeke and I am an 11 year old quaker parrot. As you can see, I do pluck my feathers, but not too much anymore. I got the best present in the world from my foster mom - A TENT. You can see it in the background of my picture! I get in it a lot and rock it, when it stops I wiggle and it rocks again. I also sleep in it, it makes me feel very comfy. I say step up, come on, and like my ladies around but do not like children.     Hello! My name is Picasso. I am a gorgeous 20 year old Lesser Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. I am playful, mischievous, and entertaining! I love to learn and show off - I can even unlock cage doors! I am also an indiscriminate lover - if you are willing to give the time, I am willing to give it right back! I do need someone that has a lot of time to give me though, because - as most cockatoos, I am very demanding of your time and attention. I did used to pluck but stopped about 10 years ago. I do have this very little bare patch down in the front of my belly, but I have learned how to groom myself to cover it up so it is not very obvious (my ... I know how to say more, but I am trying to wait to meet my new family to show them everything that I can do and say! I am a very good eater, it is one of my favorite things to do. I love vegetables, pellets and fruit and chop is REALLY good! I am a cockatoo though and I can sometimes be a little noisy, my foster Mom is working really hard to help me with when that is appropriate and when it is not, and also to help me be a little less anxious when she is out of my range of vision - but I will not be able to live in an apartment or condo, so please make sure you have a place where I can be a bit loud when I need to be. Animal ID: BabySenegal (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Baby is an 8 year old female Senegal parrot. She's a calm and quiet bird like most Senegal species. She'll sit with you on your knee, shoulder or chest. She adores head scratches and will put her head down to receive the scratch offerings. She is independent and enjoys time with her toys. She is strong willed and demands you respect her space. She will come to you when she wants to spend time with you and if you're in the vicinity will hop quite the distance to get on you. We've nicknamed her The Hopper. She's not picky about food and on a healthy diet. Baby would do well in a calm and quiet house. She would not do well to be adopted by a ... (Read More)home with cats or dogs as they scare her. I wouldn't recommend Baby in a household with young children as she will bite fingers or hands that are not welcomed in her cage. She is jealous of other birds, so no physical interactions with other birds. She would do well as an only bird or someone with small birds that aren't interested in human interaction. Baby in every sense is a great companion parrot. The person she picks will have a very loving relationship with a sweetheart of a girl. Interested in adoption? Animal ID: JakeBlue & Gold Macaw (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Birds
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Jake is a very well behaved blue and gold macaw, in fact, he is the most polite bird I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He says 'thank you' before taking a treat, or diving into his pellets. He also makes sure to greet you with a 'hello' or a 'good morning', and says 'goodbye' or 'good night' when I walk out of his room. Jake loves hanging out on my shoulder and nuzzling his face into my cheek. He is also quite a goofy bird while taking a shower, or meeting new people. He really perks up when men are around, and so I think he enjoys the company of both men and women. He has picked up a few words and sounds while staying with his foster ... (Read More)mom, including 'hi' in my voice, and a 'meow' in the voice of his cat friends. Jake will also quickly tell the other birds to 'stop!' if they get too loud. He is not fussy at all, and will readily try any food offered to him. He also is very happy to tear up cardboard and wooden blocks. Jake is also towel trained, to make visits to the vet easier. He would be a great addition to anyone's home! IMPORTANT NOTE: Jake will only be adopted to a home with a female as the primary care giver. Jake becomes emotional distressed with men; including biting and self mutilation. Interested in adoption?     Hello! My name is Meeko! As you can see, I am a beautiful little lovebird. I am a bit territorial about my cage, but I love to get out and about every day. In fact, when I'm ready to come out, I'll let you know by pushing against the door of my cage. I like to sit on your shoulder and preen your hair - I'll make you look nice! I can say my name 'Meeko!' and I like to make kissing noises and sometimes I blow raspberries while shaking my head really hard and it makes my people-friends laugh. My favorite toys are shredding toys and my swings. I am curious about everything. At my foster home, there is a dog with a big mouth - he ... Animal ID: SnowyUmbrella Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Snowy is 36 years old and came into the rescue from a loving home of 25 years. His owners felt they could no longer provide the attention he needs and made the very difficult decision to have him re-homed. Snowy is a very sweet and loving Cockatoo, he loves to snuggle and give kisses. He is a little hesitant at first but with a little nudging will step up for just about anyone, once you pick him up he is a Cuddle Bug! He does get a little jealous of others when his chosen person is around though (he may bite if someone gets too close to him and his chosen person). Snowy makes the sweetest coos and occasionally will laugh with the family, he ... (Read More)is very vocal and will carry on his own funny little conversations.... in his very own language! Like most U2's, he will scream if he feels that he is not getting enough attention. Snowy does pluck his abdominal/chest area but his feathers do still grow back as the follicles are not destroyed. We have not seen him pluck since he came into the foster home, so hopefully they will grow back. He enjoys being outside sitting on the 'front porch swing'. Snowy loves his greens and currently eats Roudybush pellets with fresh fruits and vegetables with some nuts. Please remember that this species of bird can live to be 80 years or older and needs a lot of attention on a daily basis. Animal ID: BanditBlue & Gold Macaw (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Bandit is a 20-25 year old Blue & Gold Macaw who came to us recently from an emergency intake of several birds out of the same home. While Bandit is obviously missing quite a few feathers (that most likely will not grow back), she has been given a clean bill of health by our vet. She does need more bathes and a better diet to eventually improve the condition of the remaining feathers, but we are working on that J She is loving her new pellet blend diet along with lots of fresh veggies, fruit and nuts. She especially loves bananas! While she is not yet easily handleable, she shows a keen interest in interaction and is showing a lot of ... (Read More)improvement in the short time she has been with us. She has a wonderfully clear speaking voice and can say 'Hello', 'Goodbye' and she quacks like a duck, she is very funny! The previous owner said she likes to bite you and then say 'ouch', but we have not witnessed this behavior while she has been with us. Bandit has huge, soulful eyes and we feel that with time, patience and an owner understanding of macaw behavior, she will become a great companion! Interested in adoption?     Hi there- my name is Zoey, I am a male Bare-eyed cockatoo. I am a cute, cunning little fellow. My Foster Mom is working with me to improve my diet. I love chop but am having a hard time finding a pellet that I will eat, I prefer junk so she is trying to get me to eat the good stuff. I hadn't been handled much from my previous owner, maybe it is because I bite. I am stick trained and don't mind being moved to my play stand via this method. Animal ID: CharlieSulfur Crested Cockato

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Charlie is a sulfur crested cockatoo. He has always been called a 'he' but his sex is unknown as is his species. He is either a small medium sulfur crested or a hybrid of a lesser sulfur and a medium. Life hasn't always been easy for Charlie. In the first home we are aware of he was attacked by a pair of macaws. They destroyed his upper mandible. It has partially grown back, but his sinuses are still exposed and always will be. It hasn't inhibited him though from being active or from eating. He may not be able to crack a walnut, but he readily eats most anything else without assistance. His beak does however require trimming every four weeks ... (Read More)in order to keep from growing too long. If this isn't done it makes eating difficult and will cause it to become thin and brittle as well. Charlie's next home was with a well meaning person who took in more birds than she could handle. Compounded by the owner's poor health he was soon living in unhealthy conditions. The home was crowded and the air toxic. Now Charlie is living in foster care and having a blast. He loves to play with toys that he can stash in his boxes, and will actually unscrew toys hung from the top of the cage to add to his stash. He loves his foster mom. His foster dad? Well, not so much. Other birds? Again, not so much. Actually poor Charlie is rather anti social and seems to strongly bond to one person and one person only. He's extremely smart and is an escape artist. Charlie may not be perfect in appearance or behavior, but if you are looking for a challenge and are female he is worth the effort. To the one he chooses he is very loving and sweet. Interested in adoption? Animal ID: ChampMollucan Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Champ is a real character and has never met a person he did not like. He has a wonderful disposition and is a real 'velcro' bird. Champ would hang out with you all day long if you let him, he just needs time to get used to you and any people need to go very slow with him. He did not come to us from an ideal situation and he has some insecurities because of that. He is however a typical Cockatoo and can be LOUD when he is feeling ignored, but for the most part, he is a fairly quiet bird, for a cockatoo anyway! As you may have noticed, Champ does not have tail feathers and he will not grow any (we call him the buttless wonder!). He had a wound ... (Read More)in that area which has long since healed but destroyed all follicles, however, all the plumbing works just fine! Champ has been converted to a healthy diet of pellets, fresh vegetables and fruit. He enjoys nuts as treats. He will try anything you offer. He is especially fond of sweet potatoes. Champ WILL NOT do well in a home with other cockatoos, he does like being around other birds, but NOT other cockatoos. He also does not like to be around other birds that are very loud. He is fine with other animals though, such as dogs. He is fine with men or women, but he does prefer men. Champ is under the age of 10 (best guess) and although he may not be the prettiest bird, he sure does have character and will make a great companion for the right family! PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in Florida
Birds can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.

lnteresting Bird Trivia Low-Cost Florida Spay & Neuter Clinics
Parrots mimic humans but do not mimic any other kind of animal in the wild. Most captive birds are unable to find a permanent home and experience some kind of abuse or neglect in their lifetimes. The use of nonstick cookware can be extremely toxic to parrots living in the home. Parrots can die from exposure to normal household substances such as bleach fumes, perfumes, and anything sprayed from an aerosol can. Exotic birds can live to be over 60 years old.
