Animal ID: JitterbugOrange Wing Amazon

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Hello out there! My name is Jitterbug! I am a 3 yr old Orange Wing Amazon parrot and I'm just cute as a bug. Wait. Bugs aren't really that cute, so, I'm MUCH cuter than a bug! Since I came to Rescue, I've been converted to a very healthy diet. I now eat pellets, veggies and fruits. Matter of fact, now that I've started down the healthy road, I am sure you could try giving me lots of other bird friendly yummies and I would eat those too. You know us Amazons, we normally do like to eat! When I first came to Rescue, I would only let my foster mom handle me. Now, I am so much happier and more relaxed, I will let more than just ladies handle me ... (Read More)which my foster mom said is great. I am also a very good talker and will gladly tell you that you are so pretty or I love you. I also really enjoy listening to opera music. I will step up onto your hand or arm when the mood strikes me but once I have, I really like it when you give me head scritches. I come with a pretty big cage. Although I don't feel the need to defend it, I do get highly upset if you go into it and I will scream at you! After all, what are you doing in MY cage anyway? Birds like me live around 50 years and I am only 3 years old! I am looking for a forever family that is committed to having me around for a long time. Could you be part of that family? Please come meet me and let's see if we can grow old together! Would you like to send me a gift from my Amazon Wish list? I'd sure appreciate it! Animal ID: MollySulfur Crested Cockato (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi Everyone! My name is Molly and I am a 25 yr old Lesser Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. (Whew, say that 3 times fast!) In my previous life, I was used as a breeder. I lost my toes and a portion of my beak to my former mate. Now, though, in spite of my injuries, I am still a cuddle bug with the right lady. I will gladly take treats and accept head scritches from anybody but I will only cuddle with a lady. Hey, we are all entitled to our own preferences, right? :) When I first came into Rescue, I was not on a very healthy diet. Fortunately for me, these good people at FPR know exactly what I'm supposed to be eating! Now I get yummy veggies, ... (Read More)fruits and Zupreem pellets. I love chew toys and I love to give kisses. I will also give you a whistle when I want your attention. Other than my attention whistle, I am very quiet for a cockatoo. Still, like most cockatoos, I am not really suitable for apartment or condo living. I am looking to find my forever home. Can it be with you? Come meet me and let's find out! Would you like to maybe buy me some of those chew toys I love so much from my Amazon Wish List? Animal ID: Mr. MagooAfrican Grey

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi there. My name is Mr. Magoo and I'm an African Grey. I'm a man of few words, actually I'm a bird of no words. Who knows, maybe someday I might talk. We are not sure of my age because we don't know much about my past life before Rescue . I'm at the very least 26 years old (I have a wild caught band on my foot.) My foster mom and dad think I'm older than that though. I'm fully blind in one eye and I can't see too much out of my other eye either. I haven't been handled in quite a few years so I'm still scared of people. I can be very protective of my space. My foster mom thinks with some time and patience I'll be able to learn to ... (Read More)trust again. The cage I came into Rescue in was too small and it had rust on it. My grip strength and my wings are weak, but with my new roomy cage and new healthy diet I'll get stronger. Thanks to the wonderful people at Florida Parrot Rescue, I received a beautiful cage and some new toys. My foster mom and dad are working on getting me on a good diet. Now I'm eating Higgin's safflower mix and Higgin's naturals. I haven't decided who 'my person' is yet. I do scream when someone approaches my cage, so please move slowly around me. I'm still very scared but, I'm slowly starting to trust. I don't seem to mind the four-legged friends in the house, but please make sure we are always supervised if we are in the same room together. (We may seem like good buddies but dogs *are* predators.) I'm looking forward to a forever home. Could that be with you? Please come meet me and let's find out! While you are waiting to meet me, would you like to buy me something from my Amazon Wish list? I sure would appreciate it! Animal ID: DoradoSun Conure (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi there, Dorado here! I'm named after El Dorado which means the 'Golden One' and is the legendary lost city of Gold. My foster daddy thinks the name fits perfectly since I have bright feathers in shades of yellow orange and gold and a legendary personality! I am a 10-year-old, male sun conure and I am just as sweet as can be! I have spent the last four years of my life in and out of a pet shop because both of my mommies traveled too much and could no longer take care of me. They loved me very much, so they decided to send me to the good folks at Florida Parrot Rescue so that I could get the attention I deserve, and boy I sure am glad they ... (Read More)did! A guy just needs some stability in his life, am I right? My safe place is my cuddle hut, sometimes I sit on top of my cuddle hut and make it messy, so you'll have to run it through the wash pretty often. I can be somewhat skittish of new people, but a great way to win me over is with bird friendly banana chips, my favorite treat. Now I have the confidence to step right up to get the love I have been craving. I enjoy getting head scritches and riding around in my foster dad's t-shirt. I simply love having someone to hang out with all day! My previous mommies thought I prefered women over men but I sure do love my foster daddy, I'm what the Rescue calls an equal opportunity lover! I am a bit wary of dogs because I was attacked by one in my previous home. My foster daddy is unsure if I do well with other birds but I am very curious of his sun conure. We talk to each other quite a bit! My foster dad was told that I do ok with older children, but he is uncertain of how I am with younger ones. He does think I would do best in a calm home, preferably where someone is around more often than not. He thinks I'd be okay as the only bird in the house so long as my humans give me plenty of attention. I do love attention and I will let you know if I do not feel like I am getting enough of yours! The Rescue has been told that I'm very loud, but I have a very good reason! I am Dorado The Sentinel and I must warn my foster family if there are strangers nearby, big birds in the retention pond or the water pipes in the wall behind my cage are making those weird flushing noises. My foster dad is teaching me how to use my 'inside' voice when I want his attention but for this reason, I am not suitable for condo or apartment living. I will need my cage placed somewhere in the house that isn't TOO busy, but also not so remote that I won't be part of the action (I sure do love being part of things!). I know that eventually, I will make the perfect pal! I love to slip into people's shirts and poke my head out like a baby kangaroo. Just be sure to wear your designated 'bird-shirt' when I am on your shoulder'| I like to put holes in things I shouldn't. What? I thought you looked hot and could use the extra air conditioning, this is Florida after all. I love a good dance party and will bob my head to music, and I especially like it when you sing to me. I am on a healthy diet of pellets, healthy nuts (no peanuts, please), and so far my favorite fruit is grapes or dried banana chips. My foster dad keeps putting this stuff called chop in my bowl! At first I thought he must be crazy because this stuff looks like grass but I have started investigating some of it. It turns out I like sweet potatoes and carrots when mixed into the chop. When the sun goes down I am quiet as a mouse. I don't utter a peep, nope, not me! I have a night time cover that foster daddy puts on me and I go straight to sleep. I will even make kissy noises after you cover my cage and I am all snuggled in. At night I like to be in a dark, quiet area for a good night's rest, so I can be ready to play with you the next day. I really hope someone out there sees all the potential I have! I am keeping my feathers crossed that someone special will come along and give me a family to call my very own. Maybe this special someone is you? Like my foster daddy says, I am a legendary bird with a legendary name! While you are waiting to meet me, would you consider purchasing a gift for me from my Amazon Wish List? I could always use more snuggle huts so my foster daddy (or my new family!) can rotate them for cleaning. I would be so appreciative! Here is the link: http://smile.amazon.com/'|/1O6NWJPTV1LO4/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Hope to meet you soon! Love, Dorado Interested in adoption? Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Hi! My name is Bubbles and I'm a few months under a year old! Everyone, including my vet, thinks I'm a male but we're not 100% sure. I'm a bit shy and hands terrify me, but I love hanging around outside of my cage and I will usually step up on a ladder or perch if you ask nicely. I'm young so there's plenty of time to get used to hands...especially if they keep offering me tasty millets%BD'%BD| I am a very good eater and I take a nibble at anything once you aren't looking. I currently eat a mix of seeds and pellets, with some occasional fruits/veggies. I especially love corn mixed into my food, I'll eat it all up! I'm very talkative ... (Read More)once I get to know you and I mimic all sorts of sounds. Sometimes my foster mother jokes that she adopted a dog instead of a bird since I'm so good at making barking noises. I don't say any words, but maybe with some more practice%BD'%BD| Please come around and meet me, then maybe we can practice together? Maybe you would like to buy me a toy or treat from my Amazon wish list? I would sure love that!!!! Here is the link! http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3DPRMKFX03D6U/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Animal ID: KiwiQuaker Parakeet (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! My name is Kiwi and I'm a 7 or 8 year old Quaker Parrot. My first mommy says I'm a girl, but I think it was just a guess. My foster mommy says I'm just the best little birdie ever. It only took me 2 days to warm up and feel right at home. I'm a sweet, little girl and I just love to sit on your shoulder! If you have any of those hairs on your chin that you don't like, my foster mommy says I'm a great electr...electro...elec...one of those humans that specialize in hair removal and I'll do it for free!! I was kinda lonely and bored in my old home so I plucked my feathers on my chest (guess that's why I'm so good at plucking your chin ... (Read More)hairs for you). The vet says I didn't do any permanent damage to them, though, and they should grow back soon enough, now that I'm happy and not plucking anymore. I do chatter a lot in my own Quaker language. I understand what I'm saying but you probably won't, except when I say 'Hello'. Maybe you could teach me how to say more things that you might understand? I was on a seed diet when I came here, but I'm loving ZuPreem pellets and some of the stuff in the 'Chop' my foster parronts are giving me, especially if you hand feed it to me. So if you'd like a loving little birdie that is looking for my forever home, why don't you come meet me? I would make a wonderful baby for those new at this birdie stuff. In the meantime, would you like to send me a 'welcome to Rescue' gift? I would sure appreciate it! Animal ID: HarleyUmbrella Cockatoo (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! Hi! Hi! My name is Harley, pleased to meet you! Don't let the name fool you, I am a lovely 16 year old female Umbrella Cockatoo. My foster daddy says that I am a real sweetie. I do prefer the men, though, and must be adopted into a home where only men live. I am a real cuddly, hands on type snuggler and I have to admit I really crave attention..a lot of it. Sometimes, when I feel like I'm not getting all the attention I feel I deserve, I will scream to let you know that I think you are neglecting me. This makes me quite unsuitable for apartment or condo living, so please, if you are interested in adopting me, live in a single family ... (Read More)family home. I get along well with my foster family's furry friends (both dogs and cats) but please do not leave me together with your other pets, unsupervised, no matter how well we seem to get along. Bedtime is not a problem for me. I will quiet down and go to sleep right away when it's dark and I am covered and will sleep through the night. I am a pellet diet supplemented with 'chop'. My foster dad has been trying to get me to eat these things called 'nuts' but so far I havent been too thrilled with them. If you would like to cut off a piece of the fresh fruit you are eating and give me a taste, I bet I would like it! My favorite toy is one that I can destroy. I can't have too many of those! Hey! What can I say? I have a big beak and you know what they say...A busy beak is a happy beak. (or something like that). My favorite game is Peek A Boo! I love to get under the covers and stick my head out and hear you say Peek A Boo! I also like it when my foster daddy holds me on his arm, holds my feet, and flips me upside down very fast. If you come to meet me, I'll ask him to show you how he does this. I am really a pretty good natured bird and should fit well into my new forever home, but first I have to find it! Would you be interested in giving a beautiful Umbrella cockatoo a home for good? How about coming to meet me and let's see if you and I are meant to be together! Animal ID: BogeyBlue & Gold Macaw

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Hi! My name is Bogey and I am an 18 year old Blue and Gold Macaw. Before coming to live with my foster mum, I had been in the same home all 18 years of my life. Mum and dad got so busy, that I was ignored for a very long time. Because of that, I don't know how to interact with humans anymore so they decided I would be better off in a home that I could have the attention I deserve, and in turn, learn to love humans again. I like food, and I suggest that when you approach me and offer me your hand in friendship, it has food in it. If it doesn't, well, I hate to admit it, but I might actually bite. But it's easy to keep me from biting, like ... (Read More)I said, just offer me food :) I do scream a little but now I have these fun things called toys I don't feel the urge to scream as much as I use to. Still, I am not suited to condo or apartment living. I wasn't on the best of diets before but my foster mum is sneaking in some healthy pellets. They look kinda boring cause they are not pretty colors but I am beginning to start nibbling on them and they aren't too bad! She cheated just a bit and mixed a little seed in with them and I sure do love that! I am just loving all these fresh veggies I get for my evening meal and my foster mum hasn't found a veggie I won't eat yet. I used to love canned pineapple for snacks but I have been converted to raw almonds, pine nuts... well, really you can give me any type of nut and I will take it right from your hand. My favorite pastime is having long talks with my foster mum from atop my cage. She is pretty tall (she has a kinda funny accent too) but I will bend over and put my face right by hers so we can talk eye to eye. I am so wishing for a forever home so I can become part of a family and feel the love and compassion I have missed for so long. I will need someone with patience, who is willing to work with me and love me unconditionally. I know, in time, I will become that loving, wonderful, companion that I used to be. Won't you please come meet me and see if you could be the person I've been looking for? I just know you are out there, somewhere! While you are making plans to meet me, would you like to send me a gift from my Amazon wish list? I would be so happy and excited to get a gift! Rescue Me ID: 16-04-29-00288Umbrella Cockatoo (female)

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Sweet Umbrella Cockatoo. Snowball hatched on May 5th, 2000. She is going to be 16 very soon! Loves ladies, a few guys, but prefers a female human who will give her lots of snuggles under her blankie. She has a large cage with plexiglass feeder and toys. Her diet is pellets, a few seeds, fruit and veggies, plus a few human treats. She loves buttered toast occasionally. Our living situation has changed and she is not a happy girl. Please let me know if you want more info. This parrot is an excellent companion bird. She deserves better than I can offer right now.

Animal ID: PeanutWhite Capped Pionus

Pet Bird    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello there! My name is Peanut. I am a gorgeous White Capped Pionus and I am about 8-9 years old. I love love love to eat! My foster family has successfully converted me to a healthy diet. I eat Zupreem pellets, chop and some fruit. I do like to try new foods, especially if I see you eating them first! My wonderful foster family introduced me to these things called toys. Wow! I just love those too, especially the wicker kind that I can shred. Sometimes my foster mommy buys me 5 at a time I go through them so fast. I like to do other things besides eat and play with my toys though. I like to hang out on top of my cage, and I ... (Read More)like to climb down off my cage and go walking about. Please, when I am walking about, make sure that I'm supervised so other members of my new family don't accidently step on me, or worse. I will step up for either a man or woman (no preference here, I'm fond of everyone) and I like to hang out with you on your lap. You will know if I'm content because you will hear me purring, much like your furry feline friends. I also like head scritches, but you have to be patient and give me time to get to know you before I will allow you to touch my head. I do have a hormonal implant that I received in February, 2016. FPR and the vet are hoping that it will last an entire year. The cost for the entire procedure is about $300.00. This implant has greatly improved the quality of my life and we would all like to continue with it, even after I find my forever home. My adoptive family should plan for this financially. My foster mom can give you more detailed information about it should you be interested in meeting me. Speaking of which....I would love to find my forever home! I have come a long way since I first came into Rescue. My foster mom says I'm fairly quiet so there are no restrictions on what type of dwelling I need to live in. I would sure love for you to come on out and meet me. Perhaps we could go home together? In the meantime, would you like to buy me one of my favorite wicker toys so I can keep on shredding? Here is the link to my Amazon wish list. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/23NDB85PLSF0V/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Thank you so much, hope to meet you soon! Animal ID: ChampMoluccan Cockatoo (male)

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Hi Everyone! My name is Champ and I am a gorgeous young, (under 10 years old) Moluccan Cockatoo. My foster mom says that I am a darling bird with so much personality! I am very friendly! I like all types of people, men, women, and children. I will happily accept head scritches and treats from you, even if I don't know you very well, it's who I am :) Besides people, one of the things I really like is to hang upside down! I will swing and hang that way for hours on end. Another thing I really like is to be under the covers. This makes it very easy for me to be toweled off after my baths, or get my toenails clipped or filed. I am on a healthy ... (Read More)diet of pellets, veggies, grains, meat, eggs and fruit. I love cooked sweet potatoes or yams, organic canned pumpkin (not the pie filling, the real pumpkin), fish, chicken, pork, beef and rice, couscous, cooked legumes, all peppers, and of course fruit (grapes especially). Nuts are my treat of choice though, my favorite is shelled pistachios! YUMMMMMMMMMMMMY!!!! (please don't feed me peanuts, they are not really nuts and they are not good for me) I am a Cockatoo and I do sometimes scream. My foster mom has been working with me on this and I've made great progress but screaming is something I do in the wild and I will never stop completely, it's just what Cockatoos do. Because of this, I am not suited for apartment or condo living and can only be adopted into a single family home. I will make a wonderful family companion but I MUST go to a household with a male as my primary caregiver. Won't you please come out and meet me and see if we 'click'? I so want to find my forever home. Could it be with you? While I'm waiting to meet you, would you like to send me a gift from my Amazon wish list? I sure would appreciate it! Here is the link: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1T73B31ULTPKB/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_v? Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope to meet you soon! Hugs and snuggles, Champ PS: Because FPR really wants me to find my forever home and I have been in Rescue for over a year, my adoption fee is 1/2 off! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in Florida
Birds can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.

Parrots mimic humans but do not mimic any other kind of animal in the wild. The use of nonstick cookware can be extremely toxic to parrots living in the home. Parrots can die from exposure to normal household substances such as bleach fumes, perfumes, and anything sprayed from an aerosol can. Exotic birds can live to be over 60 years old.
