Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Max is located in North East North Carolina, and will be 6 on December 10th. When I adopted him, he had a female parakeet for a mate. She has since passed away. Max is not a bad guy, he just needs someone who has more experience with this type of bird. He loves unsalted shelled peanuts as his favorite treat. Sun Conures are NOT quiet birds, and Max likes to have his cage door opened when we are relaxing in the living room. He does enjoy sitting on shoulders. He does not talk and doesn't know any tricks yet. Do the research on Sun Conures. Please do not apply unless you have prior experience with large birds and/or can tolerate the loud ... (Read More)noise, and plan on keeping Max as part of the family. We have worked with Max on some of his behaviour issues. With some more work I know Max can be the good guy he really wants to be. Rescue Me ID: 14-09-03-00384Green-cheek Conure

Pet Bird    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Baloo is a very sweet and smart bird. I recently got a job where a lot of travel is necessary so I won't be able to keep him. He is a fast learner when it comes to tricks (can shake your hand, give you a high-five, LOVES to give kisses, and can spin or fetch a ball.) He also adores being pet and is infinitely curious about anything you do. He really needs someone who can give him the love, training and attention he needs. (Preferably someone without other pets, as he is very protective of his owner (why I labeled him as somewhat dominant.) The adoption fee will include the cage and toys, food, and typed instructions for the tricks I have ... (Read More)taught him and training I have done so far. I would also like to follow up with whoever adopts him and make sure he has a great new home. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in North Carolina
Birds can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.

Parrots mimic humans but do not mimic any other kind of animal in the wild. Most captive birds are unable to find a permanent home and experience some kind of abuse or neglect in their lifetimes.
