    This is our bird, Jay. He is about 4 years old and sweet most of the time. Unfortunately, he has not been getting along with one of our dogs recently and we are looking for a loving new home for him. He comes with a very nice cage and plenty of toys. He likes to be entertained and can be handled. His wings are not clipped and he likes to be able to be out and about. He goes to bed around 7:30 every night. He does have a tendency to be loud and vocal but is very smart. We just do not have the time to train him nor the space in our townhouse to keep him any longer.     This is Moxie. He is a fun bird who just needs attention that I am unable to give him. He is 17, but you would never know it. He likes pillows and blankets (anything soft) and says 'your a pretty bird', 'good morning' and 'hey bird'. Yes, he will think you are a bird too. I had him for the first 5 years of his life and then my mother took care of him for over 10 years. Due to certain living circumstances, he is back with me. I go to college and work full-time.     Oscar and Sheba are a pair of green quaker parrots. Their owner died, and they are in a temporary foster home. They get along with each other very well in the same cage. We do not know if they have ever had babies together. Sheba did lay at least one egg, but no nest boxes are set up for them. They will need a larger cage when they are adopted. They are very vocal, as quakers usually are, and they are nippy. They love their food (Kaytee Exact) and treats of peanuts, bananas ,etc. and human attention.     Chester loves attention and treats. He has both legs, but one kicks out at a 90 degree angle. He has been like this since hatching, according to his late owner. She left a detailed journal of his care and feeding. he has been hand fed since birth as his mother pushed him out of the nest. With a little time, he should be able to be handled again. He does not let his little leg slow him down. He maneuvers all around the cage using both legs. He is not in pain. This is the only way he has ever been, so he doesn't know he is different.     This is a beautiful boy that will make a wonderful, intelligent pet. He is trying very hard to accept human handling. He is willing to get on your shoulder, but will not step up on your hand at this time. His owner died, so we know very little about his history. PIease Read Before Adopting a Bird in North Carolina
    Birds can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. Exotic tropical birds such as Parrots and Cockatiels, as well as Finches, Doves, Pigeons, and other varieties, are often kept in captivity as beautiful and interesting pets. Unfortunately, many owners may not know how to care for their birds properly, while others experience life changes that may leave their pets without a suitable home. Captive birds can suffer from nutritional deficiencies, psychological stress, and many other problems when they do not receive proper care. Many wild exotic birds are endangered as a result of the international pet trade. Non-profit bird sanctuaries provide homes for some birds for whom their owners can no longer provide care. However, many more of these birds need to be adopted by committed owners who have taken the time to thoroughly understand what it takes to care for the birds. A person who is ready for the responsibility of owning a bird should seriously consider adopting one rather than buying a new one.
